Looking forward to more "Leather Jacket" articles :)
  • f4tali - Monday, March 18, 2019 - link

Maybe about Prada Leather Jackets ;)

Thanks for doing this Ryan. I really don't want to listen to 2 hours of Jensen but am curious about the plans.
  • mode_13h - Monday, March 18, 2019 - link

    My sentiments, exactly.
  • mode_13h - Monday, March 18, 2019 - link

BTW, I got a good chuckle from the "Turing complete?" tagline.
  • FreckledTrout - Monday, March 18, 2019 - link

NVIDIA Omniverse... I think they have been watching to much Riddick and talk of the underverse.
  • D. Lister - Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - link

The term "omniverse" is not new.

LOL I understand but its a fictional thing. Just struck me funny.
  • DillholeMcRib - Monday, March 18, 2019 - link

You deleted my comment. Left wingers run this site.
  • Ryan Smith - Monday, March 18, 2019 - link

I deleted your comment because it had absolutely nothing to do with the keynote. Do try to stay on topic, please.
  • DillholeMcRib - Monday, March 18, 2019 - link

it did actually. I was offering to charge a nominal fee for writing "Wow new Nvidia non-promises" as opposed to flying someone out there. Bargain!
  • MadManMark - Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - link

a vote for you continuing to delete his comments. If these are good enough to not delete, I hate to see what wasn't
  • sorten - Monday, March 18, 2019 - link

Thanks Ryan. Quite an information packed session, but looks like no news about 7nm. I guess on the consumer side they have some breathing room until Navi shows up.
  • mode_13h - Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - link

    "Jwnsen is essentially ..."

Misspelling almost looks intentional. Would be funny in a context like "Jwnsen pwns Intel ..."
  • mode_13h - Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - link

    " CUDA-capable GPIUs "

    "3 vhapters for today."

Whoah, there's a lot of new vocabulary, today. I guess that's down to the lack of tables? I'd love to know what a vhapter is. Sounds cool.
  • D. Lister - Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - link

Hmm, nothing about Ampere or 7nm. I suppose they don't want to hurt the already awful sales figures of Turing.
  • Qwertilot - Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - link

The only thing they were in danger of announcing here would have been the volta replacement.
  • mode_13h - Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - link

It probably fell victim to TSMC's contamination incident.
  • Opencg - Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - link

I have to say that nvidia DO go the distance to help developers learn and interface with their technology. I like amds open standard approach as well. But when I learned game programming I learned nvidias cg. Because they went out of their way to make books and free documentation / tutorials. I think it is one of the really positive things they do.
  • mode_13h - Wednesday, March 20, 2019 - link

When there's viable competition, that's basically what it takes for vendors to entice most developers to use their proprietary technology.

It's sort of like an addict praising a drug dealer for giving you your first doses for free.
  • Opencg - Wednesday, March 20, 2019 - link

say what you will but you are in denial to the value of aiding developers. programming doesnt happen for free. this is the real world people have limited time and resources. nvidia has done a good deal of benefit to the development of software and the world. the early gpu gems series and related material from nvidia sped along the advancement of gpu based computation. this was before opencl and cuda. gpu compute was done via graphics libraries. and today we have a thriving ecosystem with multiple libraries and lots of hardware support. competition is still going on between amd and nivida in the massive field of gpu computation. so whether your fanboy head in the sand self can understand it or not: we need the hardware AND software AND publishing money to all work together to continue pushing forward.
  • mode_13h - Thursday, March 21, 2019 - link

Heh, lol for calling me a fanboy head, when you're the one suckling at Nvidia's ...

You just don't want to admit you fell into their trap and now you're locked-in. When Intel comes along with their dGPU and it's both faster and cheaper, you're gonna be kicking yourself (or your employer is gonna be kicking you).
  • Opencg - Friday, March 22, 2019 - link

no actually im quite displeased with nvidia. their rtx line is pure garbage compared to what it could have been. i have written many comments on the matter here. and im excited for navi and have been for some time. i dont have favorites my opinions are based on fact and experience. you are a fanboy who cant look past your simple rigid views
  • mode_13h - Saturday, March 23, 2019 - link

Eh, is that the best you can do? Such a baseless accusation isn't worth my time.
  • Opencg - Friday, March 22, 2019 - link

oh intels dgpu you say??? lol. just lol. enjoy 2012s performance in 2020
  • mode_13h - Saturday, March 23, 2019 - link

Like you know something the rest of us don't...

Intel isn't going to release something that's not competitive. They cancelled Larrabee, and they'd sooner do it again, rather than release another uncompetitive product. But I don't think it'll be uncompetitive, because there's a pretty simple formula for making a successful GPU and they've got the will and the wherewithal to pull it off.

BTW, the reason I think it *could* beat Nvidia on price/performance is that Nvidia's margins are currently huge. Being the newcomer, I can imagine Intel taking a hit on margins, in order to build some market share. Without the same diversity in their product portfolio, Nvidia would be unable to match.

Now, if that sounds like fanboyism to you, then I guess we cannot conduct reasoned discourse.
  • Opencg - Sunday, March 24, 2019 - link

it has been known for some time just like almost every gpu release that generates intrest. it will compete with amd apus. it will target 4k media centers that do little to no gaming most likely.

you sure write alot but you know almost nothing. you say things that i guess you didnt even try to look up. the only reasoning you could have is feelings. thats what a fanboy does. you are a fanboy. sit
  • mode_13h - Sunday, March 24, 2019 - link

    > you sure write alot but you know almost nothing.

You're calling *me* ignorant? You are wrong about the extent of Intel's plans and what's known about them. If you've even been following news of the subject, you'd know that. You're fast losing any semblance of credibility.

Go catch up on the subject and I'll accept your apology, when you return. Here, I'll help you out:

    https://www.anandtech.com/SearchResults?q=intel+xe

    And the latest: https://hothardware.com/news/official-renders-show...

On the other hand, if you're just here to troll, then I expect you'll hang around and continue to fling baseless accusations and childish insults.
  • mode_13h - Sunday, March 24, 2019 - link

And BTW, why on earth would I be talking about their Gen11 iGPUs as a competitive threat to Nvidia?

    You've lost the plot, mate.
  • Opencg - Monday, March 25, 2019 - link

ah wow you must be talking about the cards that will come out in 2030 then. the ones that they have an artists rendering of and thats it. gpus take years to come out kid. in this case probably 10 before they have anything that warrants 2 power connectors.

so youre predicting something that even intel doesnt know the performance of yet.. based on.. a picture... sit fanboy
  • mode_13h - Thursday, March 28, 2019 - link

So, I see you didn't read any of Anandtech's coverage of their Xe announcements, and yet you still feel qualified to comment?

The renderings are concept art that have offered by Intel. As the hothardware article points out, their earlier concept rendering shows a higher-end card with 6+8-pin aux connectors. I think the new rendering is meant more to be complementary, than as an update.

They have committed to a 2020 release date for this (as opposed to a 2019 release date for the Gen11 iGPUs with which you seem to be confused). Unlike Gen11, nothing is yet known about their Xe GPUs. Not specs, nor benchmark leaks. So, you really can't comment on their Xe GPUs, unless it's from a place of fanboyism.

And if I'm a kid, then you must be battling with senility. Perhaps you can form a club with HStewart of opinionated posters who disfavor facts.
