If they can sell an RGB mechanical keyboard in the rest of the world for <$35 I foresee much wailing and gnashing of teeth on the part of existing keyboard makers.
  • notashill - Friday, August 10, 2018 - link

It's about twice that on Gearbest at the moment.
  • cmdrdredd - Friday, August 10, 2018 - link

It's not Cherry switches, it's plastic, it appears to have no brightness control built in, we don't know the quality of the keycaps. No I think other manufacturers will be just fine.

    @cmdrdredd

Did you read the article or you just went straight to trolling? Maybe you’re working for other keyboards manufacturers.

By the way TTC vs Cherry switches are matter of tastes. Even tho I’ve never tried out this one but this $33 keyboard seems to have more quality than all others that cost $80+.

“The Gaming Keyboard from Xiami comes in aluminum chassis to ensure its durability and give a premium feel. The key caps themselves are made of PBT (polybutylene terephthalate), which is more durably than traditional ABS plastic used for key caps”

The keycaps are already higher quality than most keyboards at this price point purely by being made of PBT. Also, the quality of generic switch manufacturers have caught up to (or even surpassed) that of Cherry in these last couple of years. If it actually sells for less than $40, it's a very good deal for a name brand keyboard at that price.

Only xiaomi has been able to deliver what they intended with the price they are selling it with. Anyway I am interested but will only buy after a review (similar to other Xiaomi products I bought)

Add $50 importer markup and it won't be so cheap.
  • nyclouie - Friday, August 10, 2018 - link

for that price.. is there a keylogger built in =X
  • Oxford Guy - Saturday, August 11, 2018 - link

One has to take full advantage of a 32-bit processor.
  • us - Saturday, August 11, 2018 - link

No silly, the 32 bit processor is for crypto mining not key logging.

Anyone have any idea how those TTC-switches compare to Cherry switches?
  • fazalmajid - Friday, August 10, 2018 - link

If they're Red switches (i.e. mushy, no tactile feedback), it doesn't really matter.
  • Robotire - Saturday, August 11, 2018 - link

Urgh, why are the keys so weirdly placed? Why didn’t they align them correctly so it can be used with human hands?

LOVE these guys, Xiaomi. For example, their Mi A2 (Mi 6X) with Snapdragon 660 is costing around 200 Euros - a quick comparison may be the Nokia 7 Plus, which is (literally!) double the price - and it's Android One; & any (small!) details, which they pass on - such as the DUMB idea of not including a quickcharger - really do *not* matter, when it is SUCH value for money! =)

$60 for the Mi Android TV b0x is gr8, too! Anandtech users have covered it, as well: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/mi-box-and-nv...

pffft. That has quite a lot of bugs in the firmware and they took forever to release an update newer than android 6.0. Also there is no ethernet port.
  • hemedans - Monday, August 13, 2018 - link

It jas been updated to Oreo already.

Better just call it a gaming keyboard, because Xiaomi themselves didn't claim it is a mechanical keyboard(on their official Chinese advertising pages) , moreover under the TTL switches are still membranes. The switches only provide a mechanical-like feel, there are no electronic actuation things inside the switches.

But imo at this price is still a good keyboard and worth buying, since no one else ever build membrane keyboard this solid and useable yet still quieter than many other mechanicals, and also have decent backlight. There just don't have many manufacturers willing to make membranes like this. (Forgive my awful English:)

"moreover under the TTL switches are still membranes. The switches only provide a mechanical-like feel, there are no electronic actuation things inside the switches."

FWIW, the vaunted IBM keyboard worked the same way.
  • Tams80 - Sunday, August 12, 2018 - link

Topre switches also use membranes, and are also vaunted as great switches.

A post on a Chinese forum showing this keyboard: https://mobile.twitter.com/Geforce102/status/10278...

Okay so I have options to buy mech for around $30-70 in my country. Help decide:

    - Local brand with Cherry MX is $45.
    - Local brand with Gateron is $30.
    - Magicforce with Gateron is $65.
    - Xiaomi with TTC is $50.
    - Or should I just save money and get local brands with Kailh/JWH/Outemu for $25?

Another mechanical keyboard with RGB backlighting. Amusing how gamers have such uniformly bad taste.

This isn't the only RGB keyboard on the market. There are plenty more available now https://0rgb.com/best-keyboards/ with cool design and mechanical keys.
  • bimizell - Thursday, May 12, 2022 - link

I had a hard time finding one at https://www.google.com/ so hopefully it will be available.
