No, but Emby does. I currently have Plex installed in my computer, but I'm really really thinking about changing to Emby. In the past few months it has evolved A LOT, and it doesn't seem like it's going to slow down.
@wicketr - There is *no* Plex support at all - I bought one yesterday. I am returning it today. It's pretty much native Synology apps or nothing at all - If you want Plex go Intel.
Do I interpret correctly that it is able to transcode h.265 to h.264? I'm not sure from the separate decoding and transcoding tables. I'd only be interested in this NAS if this is possible since all my video files have been converted to h.265. They now fit easily on 2x8 TB disk space :-)
Definitely passing on this one and waiting for the DS216+. Currently happy with my DS212j but looking to greatly expand what I can do on my NAS with the impending support of Docker within DSM6.0
I just can't understand why a streaming box or cheap tablet can be $100 or $150 but a box with a couple drive bays in it is like $250. Am I missing something or is there just not enough competition in this space to move prices to a reasonable point. I'm only considering network storage now. Would I lose out on something by just building a simple freeNAS box myself? It seems like it would be much cheaper.
Poor power management is poor power management. It would be nice to see the folks adapting ARM designs (and others) to actually implement true power management for the SoC and platform.
almost 7w with the drives spun down seems like quite a bit when something like a NUC with significantly more ability uses half that at idle.
Just don't do it. Bought one yesterday. Returning it today. The quality is *cheap*. The ports are minimal. The processor means that there is basically no apps ready for it. Unless you want to use *only* the Synology apps and nothing like Plex etc - go ASUSTOR instead.
Compare Synology 2-Bay DiskStation NAS DS214play SATA HD, RAID 0/1 AND Synology 2-Bay DiskStation NAS DS216play, is 216 really better? http://www.span.com/compare/41687-51092

DS216play can act as a DLNA Digital Media Server so it will let you to stream multimedia contents. Plus it does some transcoding too :http://www.span.com/product/Synology-2-Bay-DiskSta...Salipander - Wednesday, October 7, 2015 - link

The pre-order price in the UK seems to be 275.99gbp and not 170 like the article says: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015JQAWW0?keyw...ganeshts - Wednesday, October 7, 2015 - link

Interesting... Up for preorder on some European sites, but not showing on Newegg or Amazon, and not listed (currently) on Synology's site.SDLeary

If you don't care about 4K video then it seems like a downgrade to the DS214play. I think I'll keep my DS214play and enjoy my Plex support.savagemike - Wednesday, October 7, 2015 - link
