It's probably a delayed launch product. There's always a few products at asus that seem to slip through the cracks and don't make it to the start line until well after everyone else has launched their product.
Having trouble with Bay Trail temps? That's weird. I'm guessing that they were intending to launch some W10 tablets, but with the launch not until July/August and all that Bay Trail inventory wasting space, it's time to get it out the door. I wouldn't buy this thing without a guarantee that it will be updated with Android M.
Well, baytrail is about as fast as krait 400, yet drinks quite a bit more power, so TDP was never that good compared to ultramobile competitors. And lower temps is always better, considering that ANY device gets hot after a while.
I was thinking the same thing. And honestly sporting a last gen chip on the eve of tomorrow makes me wonder if this is a higher end tablet. If it is then it's not that interesting I think. If it's actually like a $200 tablet then it gets a lot more interesting. I do like the type C port even if it's early days and cables might be harder to come by for a year or whatever. I'll happily trade any possible inconvenience there for never having to flip the connector around again. I won't miss those moments of stress wondering if I should get my glasses or chance munging the connector when neither of my first two guesses seem to work well.
I'm wondering whether there'll be any OTG negotiation issues with Type C, since USB OTG is just about all I use the port for on my tablet/phone...
Owning a N5/7 and having spread Qi pads around the house, the only time I ever plug in to charge anymore is in the car (mostly because I like my DIY universal mount better than any Qi enabled mount I've seen).
Also curious what Type C implementations will opt for as far as display mirroring, it'd be nice if I could do away with the collection of MHL/Slimport dongles in favor of something that goes straight info DP/HDMI.
First I had to root my device, then got a type C to usb micro adapter, and had a usbmicro to USB 2.0 , plugged in my usb stick, using android app PPP and it recognizes, now ordered a microusb-hdmi cable will test hdmi, but both worked on my nexus so I am assuming it will work here
Great, so now we have to worry about atom x3's that arent even 14nm. At any rate, it will be funny if the gpu performance on this atom is higher than the pure intel 14nm atoms.
4:3 and horrid design oh well. Are you sure the 28nm SoC is using Silvermont cores? Not that it would make much of a difference what core gen they use, the thing is both way slow at those clocks and huge. On 4 cores Intel must have at least 12mm2 die size handicap vs ARM A7 and that on a small chip is a lot.
The Z380 is 16:9; Z580 is 4:3. Thank you, Asus. Some much prefer 4:3, as 16:9 is really only good for video and other consumption. 4:3 has proven better for most everything else. Now if they would offer a 1280x1024 resolution, I would be ecstatic. This is an 8" tablet, not a 19"+ monitor. I'd prefer the added battery life and easier interaction with the touch interface. I suppose too many subscribe to the more is better philosophy... As for the cores, they are too slow for whom or what? Again, I prefer 10-12 hours of battery life. My tablets are used for work & productivity. I do consume a lot of printed materials in the guise of 8 1/2x11 formatted PDFs. If all you're going to do is play, I agree that 16:9 is a better option. Why do I feel that no specs here are impressive except for the type-C USB? Reminds me of the Zenphones that sounds great at announcement and then bland when you could actually buy them.
Yet, their Zen Ultrabooks aren't. The UX305 is great value. I wouldn't mind its internals on a plastic body for even more value.
