It's probably more useful than an iPhone for people who travel a lot and occasionally go off the grid, and thus need the device to still work as a GPS, camera, miniature computer, etc, while drawing all data from fast, convenient local storage...
- It has a MicroSDXC slot, so it can take the new 200GB MicroSD storage cards; and
- It has dual SIMS.
Unfortunately, it lacks a user removable battery, so it is still inferior in that regard to each of the phones and phablets that I already have. But, in general, I like what they are doing.
Something that other nationals can tend to forget is that China has a lot of wealthy people (far more than the US or possibly even Europe). Even though these elite Chinese are wealthy, many of them are shrewd spenders. They want value for their high-end spend. So there is a lot of pressure on Chinese vendors to produce high-end devices that include every possible feature.
So just like Japanese enthusiasts used to get certain stereos and cameras that America only dreamed of, the Chinese are demanding that the manufacturers provide more fully functional high-end phones that can do everything... including the things that the iPhone cannot do.
That said, the iPhone is making headway in China too...
... but just like in the US, it's for all the wrong reasons. Namely, it's a jewelry piece that holds sway as a status symbol amongst the more vacuous of minds. Owning one supposedly elevates your perceived social status - much in the way that owning a ludicrously expensive sports car or ultra-luxury car does the same (think Rolls-Royce, Bentley, etc.).
Sociologists and psychologists have hypothesized that such objects are attractive to both the buyers who display them publicly and to those who view them, particularly the opposite sex. People who buy these objects are subliminally advertising to potential mates that they have excess money that (under the proper circumstances) can in the future be re-directed to caring and tending for children and non-working spouses.
The attraction effect is generally stronger if the object is purchased and displayed by a male, because many societies still expect the male to bear the larger burden of providing financial resources. This is especially the case while the female is pregnant and in the early years of caring for children that aren't yet school aged.
The larger the excess spend over the practical value, the higher the perception of excess earning capacity. That's why we sometimes see phones sold with precious jewels encrusting them. Apple is just doing the same thing on a lower level... right out of the box. Charging more than the inherent underlying value.
So it's rather refreshing to see the Chinese manufacturers taking a different approach.
And it is especially refreshing to see the Chinese doing this in light of the fact that Samsung vacated the market as an Apple competitor and have now lowered themselves to merely matching Apple's product features. Without the Chinese, the Apple-Samsung twins (newly conjoined) don't really have any competition. The Chinese upping their game changes things.
Of course Apple can play this game too if they want. They simply need to offer more than 264GB of storage. The P8's 64GB of onboard NAND storage combined with the new SanDisk 200GB Micro-SDXC storage card will now set a very high bar that Apple needs to try to hurdle over (if Apple wants to be taken seriously with regard to storage).
I'm thinking that if Apple offers its next phone with 512GB of storage then that would safely secure the storage crown for them (remember, Samsung used to regularly double Apple's storage by simply adding a Micro-SD slot, but Samsung has now given up on competing).
Then Apple would need to add Dual-SIM slots to improve connectivity and travelability. It may come as a surprise to the uninformed that the newly wealthy Chinese (like many other nationals) are joining the tourist-corps. They are world travelers and they want their phones to work anywhere that they are likely to travel. Having Dual-SIMs makes it both convenient and affordable (roaming data charges are still the bane of the planet, even for wealthy Chinese).
I would also argue that to be better than what I've personally already got (and most Chinese, other Asians, Middle-Easterners, Africans, and Europeans already have), Apple would need to offer user removable back covers and batteries. Nothing says "I can handle a thirty hour multiple segment, multi-modal (air, sea, and land) journey" than a couple of lightweight fully-charged spare batteries. No awkward cables... just plop in and play on like nobody's watching.
So the Chinese phones are Apple clones? Nahh, this is just the Chinese practicing for the end-game. They want to do what Samsung used to regularly do to Apple: offer the consumer more for less... and the Chinese have just proven that they can win the storage crown. So who is to say they won't eventually win the various other races to provide the best-of-the-best on the other features? All it requires is Apple-Sung to remain lazy… which is something they have lately proven to be very adept at.
I signed up just to be able to thank you for this comment. You brilliantly summarised everything that's wrong with the current "leaders" of the mobile phone industry. I've been a Samsung user for years after being disappointed by the iPhone 3G then HTC in general but now when my contract expires for my Note 3 I am leaving for a Chinese brand, I want to support a company that hasn't given up trying.
Always surprises me how people in these blogs write about what Apple "should do", but for what? To be even more successful? What are their credentials? Of course, anyone can say what they like or dislike. But the implicit assumption in most of these comments is "I know better", which is, at the least, presumptuous
Personally, I don't like anything about Apple except the build quality of most of its products and its stock price. Cha-ching! I don't buy Apple products or use Apple software, but I'm happy the corporation is so successful. Deep down inside, I find myself horribly judging and mocking consumers of Apple products, but then I just have to remind myself not to feel bad about it. They're already dead inside.
I think it's Tall Poppy syndrome... even ignoring everything else Apple has pioneered over the years and just looking at the Apple Watch - first gen of hardware and software, and it's amazingly smooth and will have years of support and development. With the hardware makers for Android, they are all dropping support for SD cards and removable batteries, except LG (?), but no one seems to talk about it when it happens. I think people start making 'I know better' statements because they don't check history.
I agree with many of the things you said, but your theory about iphone as a status symbol is incomplete. I mean, according to what you said it seems that most buyers should be single men, and I have seen as many women as men with iPhone in Shanghai (maybe more, as female tend to follow fashion very strongly, and most cannot choose a phone based on "tech" or "features"). Also, many married couples and middle aged and old persons use iPhone. Even students have them. It always strikes me, because in China iPhone's price is quite higher than the average salary in the first tier cities. Imagine if an iPhone cost 2000 USD in the US. Nobody would buy it, but in china they do. I guess mostly because the "status symbol" thing, but not to impress potential sexual partners, just to say "hey, look, I am NOT POOR", even if you are and cannot afford a health insurance and use recycled oil for cooking. After the communist times, Chinese socity has gone to the other extreme. Now being poor is not just pityful, it is shameful. No matter how, even if you have to sell tainted milk to babies or steal from your fellow citizens with lies, you MUST become rich. Of course, most cannot, so that's why they think having a "symbol" is better than nothing. "Appearence" is king nowadays in China, not "substance". I guess they need 20 more years to find a balance. Too many changes, too fast.
I'm curious - why would anyone buy something like this? Free can be had anywhere - even older models of iPhones can be had for free with a contract. These Chinese things offer nothing new, including underpowered hardware and unsupported software. I have to admit though - this thing beautifully blends the champhered edges of the iPh5 and the speaker grills of the iPh6/iPod5.
I think u really need to visit eye surgery ! same edges like on iphone really ?? speaker grills same like on iP6 ?? ar u sure u not blind or u have completely blurred eyes??? Have you ever seen the galaxy S6 or S6 edge and took a lok at its bottom of phone u EYE cripple?
Close to zero. This was one of the units they have out to all the attendees of the London launch event. Given the bad backlight bleed of this unit it's highly likely they're not picked. Plus I had to figure out myself that setting the temperature to minimum will make it accurate.
Did you read the review? Andrei said the camera's great, it's just everything else that's bad. Like so: "While the camera is the phone's truly outstanding feature, the whole device as a package just seems to underperform on too many other areas to be able to justify a purchase."
It's JUST everything else that's bad? That's a pretty damning statement, if you ask me. And the camera didn't perform all that well in the easiest situation—outdoors in sunlight. Not so great after all.
Yah, the night shots look great. Unfortunately at the cost of the day shots looking not so great, but that's to be expected when trading off color information for luminance information.
All you need to do is put a custom ROM over that terrible EmotionUI and you're sorted. I think this is a brilliant handset, you get more for your money than the ridiculously overpriced S6 family.
This does not look Apple-like even in the shots. I see a much squarer phone with various design highlights. The all metal design with plastic strips to prevent a faraday cage are common place in the world since they are a successful form factor, but each company has done a nice job differentiating themselves. The device looks excellent IMO, it just doesn't perform up to its looks.
My thoughts too. I looked at this review hoping the G4 would have had some entries in the graphs. No luck. Seems like every website with an opinion has a G4 review out. But the website with the best objective testing and insight is missing from the group.
You guys have probably covered this, but why is UFS on your charts not showing the speed bumps it's showing in benchmarks on other sites? Is it a benchmark software issue, or is that the actual speed you're achieving?
One of their previous reviews said they were using an older test that only used a single thread to address IO, which gimped the UFS in the Galaxy S6. I'm not sure if they're still doing that.
I don't think they should though - they said it was because the iPhones test was single threaded, but that's not the tests problem, HFS+ only allows one IO thread to access the file system at a time. Dumb for a file system in 2015, but there it is.
In the time since the Galaxy S6 review we've discussed the effects of multithreaded IO and it has become apparent that this ends up impacting normal eMMC results in an unrealistic manner due to controller overhead as IO in real world applications is treated as a critical section. Combined with the need to maintain comparable tests across Android and iOS, we've decided to continue focusing on single threaded IO performance for internal storage testing.
That's not what he was getting at. Just that multithreaded I/O requests benefit the GS6 UFS flash system while hurting the performance of every other phone, so they decided to stay with the older single threaded test.
Looks like another disappointment from them. Shame, it's gorgeous on the outside, but I wish they'd just go with another SoC maker until they can produce something decent. Heck, go with Intel, the Z3560 in the Zenfone 2 both stomps this and comes practically free.
Why no comparison with the iPhone 6? Isn't it generally the reference phone for photos?
That said I disagree with the P6 low light performance, the greater noise is more of a problem overall than the odd slight smudging in the S6. For example, in the picture with the streets and car, you can easily make out the license plates with the S6, on the P6 you can't.
All manufacturers should have an option to revert the software to a vanilla alternative. They can supply it on their website as an option to every user/buyer of their devices. Many custom rom's just ruin the hole phone experience. The hardware is great but the software is crap...
the main problem is shitty android and it's core so shitty linux Huawei said they going to start making their OWN OS which will be implemented into their mobiles in future!
Any chance you'll get a SD810 and 808 soon to test GPU power? And if you do can you also monitor CPU clocks under that load? I don't even dare to imagine how hard the CPU must throttle when the GPU is loaded.
Dual channel 32-bit = Two 32-bit memory channels. Plus, a 16-bit memory controller could only address 64KB of memory, compared to the maximum of 4GB for a 32-bit controller... Having 128KB of RAM in a smartphone wouldn't be very wise. It could probably boot in to something like DOS, but Android would definitely not work.
Android 5.0 is called Lollipop, not Lolipop (every time you mention it, you misspell it). But thanks for the article, I thought the performance wouldn't have been as bad as it seems to be. The phone is way overpriced. It's a shame really, as the camera seems to be very good.
It's easy to see the standards of written articles dropping everywhere you look on the internet, just more annoying when it's a website you visit frequently. Do you guys @ Anandtech bother to read through the articles before you publish? A simple spell check perhaps?
If English isn't Mr Frumusanu's native tongue this would go a long way towards explaining the kinds of errors we find in this article. Sadly it seems native english speakers/writers, such as Mr Cutress, are just as prone to said errors in their pieces.
This is sheer carelessness and creates the impression of falling standards at Anandtech.
I don't recall nearly as many errors under the tenure of Mr Lal-Shimpi.
Just a couple of the points from this article:
"Huawei started Ascend P-line" should read as "the Ascend P-Line."
"I regard the Kirin 920 as quite of an embarrassment" should read as "quite a bit of an embarrassment.
Anandtech gives us the most in-depth reviews on modern technology and you are having a tizzy over spelling and small grammatical errors. Your corrections are valid, but your tone is condescending and unnecessary. Maybe, you should fill out an application for Editor.
I had this phone for about 3 weeks a month or so ago and I did actually like it quite a bit. It was fast, responsive and I didn't really have any issues with it. I did like the build quality and I did like the screen quite a bit... I didn't like the battery life though and I thought it would be a great handset if the price would be kept lower (as at the time I didnt know what the price would end up being).
A lot better than the P8 Lite tbh. The smaller Lite is a lot more responsive than most other "mid-range" handsets, however, that one would randomly crash and freeze every few days. I don't know if that had anything to do with the pre-production nature of the handset. Huawei did a pretty good job on this one :) If you want something different, this is different good, but with 499Eur price tag I don't know if I would recommend it instead of an upcoming OnePlus 2... heck, even when compared to a OnePlus One...
I am still not very interested in the Chinese offerings. I don't think they should stop what they are doing by any means, but the "better or similar device for less money" doesn't ever seem to hold up to me. I don't approach my purchase based on complete frugality. I base it on all-around performance and that makes more sense to me in 2-3 year phone ownership than buying something that bests very little compared to the major sellers. To each their own, but I would still rather carry an Apple, LG, Samsung, or Sony flagship. This has everything to do with all-around performance. I think Xiaomi and Meizu are getting closer to my own expectations than Huawei or Oppo at this point.
I am an iPhone 6+ user but I have no problem this review uses Galaxy S6 camera for comparison as the S6 have an excellent camera. The SONY RGBW sensor in this camera might be used in the upcoming iPhone 6S in September and it will be interesting to see with SONY and Apple's refinement how it will stack up against Note 5 and G4.
Huawei should really stop with this Kirin nonsense. The modem sucks power, the SOC's power management is a joke, yet Huawei are crazy enough to charge flagship prices for a midrange phone that struggles to keep up with much cheaper offerings. A Mi Note is a cheaper and better option.
I know this isn't a nexus review but these charts would look rather different if a nexus 5 running 5.1 and a nexus 6 on 5.1 were used since Lollipop 5.1 finally brought a lot of changes into android that were manufacturer dependent. The nexus 5 on 5.1 posts better random writes than any of the phones on this list for example.
I do agree with you in terms of 5.1 improvements. I am currently testing a small upcoming Motorola handset and although it's not a monster in terms of power and should be on paper lower powered than the processor in the P8 Lite, it is soo much more responsive. Battery life is also rather underwhelming on these Kirin SoC powered handsets...
I pay 45$ for unlimited call text and 5gig data through wal mart's plan that uses an AT&T sim. Nexus 5 is about 97% reliable, but it's bring your own phone. Which around here is the exception rather than the rule. The rule being Verizon near 100% reliability and exhorbinate rates and long contracts with obscene break up fees.
Jeeezus anandatech u made me sweat PROPERLY I finished this mega ,tera hexa .. eem .. NO ! I will go rather other way ... It took me over and hour to finish this mini, micro , nano , piko , errr.. I'll skip rather all metrics and I'll jump directly to deep ATOM review I have EVER seen in my life .. ALWAYS when it comes to Huawei devices especially to find EVERY single NEGATIVYTY to their products.. I will say you are MOST weirdest website in actual WORLD .. But that's fine that is your probably style to do autopsy to find weakness.. To summarize your (in few ways) misleading review to pull people off buying phone bcos of bribed by apple or who knows who doesn't bother me .. but u are cowards anyway .. we can start :
1.introduction and design:
* ''only supports UE Category 4 LTE speeds, reaching up to 150Mbps downstream and 50Mpbs upstream.'' -So u claiming that this phone supports LTECat 4 only ?? u liying or u have wrong info as this phone supports LTECat 6 !
*''We had some very harsh words for Mate 7’s camera performances, as both featured very disappointing photo and video quality.'' -Ecxuse me ?? I have feeling that u HAS no experience of taking pictures at all I own Mate 7 and everybody says that my pictures on phone are amazing WTF u trying to say weirdos?? liars! isheep!
*''This is the second kind of implementation RGBW (Or RGBC) after the OmniVision unit found in the original Moto X.'' -yeah why u higlighting it IT WAAS second?? why nobody been talking about it THEN in crappy fail moto x ? what u trying to protect ? or put itno negativneses ?? so WHAT if it''s second ?seriously!
*''It should be noted that the black frame surrounding the actual screen makes it seem as if the device’s size-bezels are much smaller than what they really are, something which is very visible on the lighter coloured models.'' -yeah u picked white version so what u been expecting ?? so stupid every phone which is in withe color must have black borders jesus christ u are unbelieveable .. did u mention this in crapple iphone 6 review? you need more knowledge that if u have black screen version u don't notice any borders! mentals..
*''Huawei called the design a “single audio chamber speaker system”, but in practice the right grill is essentially just for aesthetics and only serves as a housing for the bottom microphone. Covering up the left grill will completely dampen the audio output of the device.'' -eem excuse me and what is the problem that phone has simetrical grills which gives better look ?!? on your crapple phone wht is there 5 holes on right side and 2 on the left how rubbish crap looking ! dampen audio ?? oh yeah even iphone 5 or 6 or s6 or edge has dampen audio bcos everybody covers holes so obviously sound will be dampen WTF u mentiong this SHT??1?!!? ar u nuts?
* camera module seems to be still 1.5mm underneath the glass. -ar u serious with this mention ?? jeezus christ .. u are total weirdos FOR REAL ! ATOM REVIEW!
*''he only gripe I’ve had with it is that it seems to have some empty space underneath the back of the phone as if you try to squeeze it will flex inwards by up to 1mm'' - Whaaaaa??? OMG what THE HELL are you doing with smartphones seriously u need HELP !
2.Software - EmotionUI 3.1
*''Huawei continues the choice of not including an application drawer with the EmUI launcher, so all installed apps are placed on the launcher screens.'' -So what? BETTER NOT complain here as u wud have to complain to your beloved iphone so u rather stayed quiet right ?
*''It would be appreciated if Huawei had at least included the option to disable app-icon framing throughout the OS'' -I NEVER EVER heard in my life that SOMEBODY wud comes up with this NON-SENSE sht called ''app-icon framing throughout '' trully u are word inventors ! ... app icon framing .. jeezus christ ..
*''I've praised Huawei's inclusion of a per-app permission manager in the Honor 6 and Mate 7, and it sadly seems that the P8 drops this practice as it no longer is exposed to the user'' -the reason why they didn't include this feature anymore was because all constant annoying remind to close all important apps and services which needs to be running and users been complaining by not receiving notifications , locations not found ! in other phones never been why it bothers you now???
*Although the P8 lacks a fingerprint sensor '' -trully who uses it?? nobody .. only gay geeks with their glasses 200 bioptries
*''a feature where one would double-tap or draw with a knuckle to capture a screenshot'' -I believe if u root the phone which is easy to do so .. u can nicely disable this feature in file systems (eg build prop)
3.CPU & System Performance
I really NOT going to break down this section as there are 1000 negativeness I would be here till next christmas.. Simply your bars, graphs and compares ARE TOTAL POINTLESS/USELESS t Completely obsolete as I browse or edit on my mate 7 or on P7 perfectly no problems as any other phone. I noticed that If iphone or any other phone you adore has less or shame/laughable results u simply not include it in your graphs .. u cowards ..!
4.GPU Performance
Same as above no comment on useless completely not REAL world results as everybody plays games on the phone without any issues .. or play films.. on P7 we normally watch youtube vids in 1080p or 720p without problem .. yeah your pathetic iphone can be on top but good luck it its even crappier battery which will stay last half a day or less !
5.WiFi Performance and nand
I really don't understand another pointless tests of wifi performance .. it is clearly USELESS /POINTLESS to have strong wifi another battery drain ?? Wake up, u measuring NETWORK speed instead of INTERNET speed ! What u wanna tell me now u playing multiplayer over smartphones behind desks like idiots like onPC where wifi network speed is inevitable Pleease DON'T be naive, Huawei instead of you THINK and don't implment stupidly highest wifi module tuner radio JUST for pointless network speed which nobody will NEVER use it for every day use ! Everybody needs fast internet download speed for quick loading pages or downloading files don't you think ? And this P8 managing at best ! Yu fkin thanks god u didn't unsolder wifi chip to check if it's OK or what.. myyy gooosh ..
* While the new eMMC doesn't break any records, it's now among the "average" performing devices out there, as opposed to the horrendous performances of the Mate 7 and Honor 6 -horrendous .. wow so dramatic? I never noticed any horrendous like u oddly describing - bitching !
6.Display Measurement and power
*''together with a NovaTek NT35695 display controller IC'' -jez so u mentioning controller wt-hell and u can tell us brands of capacitors and resistors too ? i think that is important too n ?
*''I noticed a very weird behaviour of the display's brightness that cannot be explained by usual mechanisms such as CABC. The OS clearly alters brightness depending on the application - for example using a browser such as the stock one or Chrome, along with other random applications such as Dropbox or FX Explorer will cause a dimming in the display, if one opens up the recents menu or goes back to the home-screen then one can see how the backlight brightens up. One would think this can be explained with by assuming the default launcher and OS elements are allowed a higher luminosity than other apps, but I've discovered that many other apps don't dim the display.'' - Right here is ONLY first thing right now I can agree with this issue ... yes I have noticed dimming in chrome but u didn't consider it is caused by app ? the chrome app causing this and some others because when u open chrome it auto changes resolution don't thik that you surfing in 1080p ... this happens to me with my mate 7 so i just increase brightnes a bit and volia .. problem solved..
*''Huawei P8 backlight bleed'' Every phone with ips screen has bleed it is caused by stress which is put by phone frame where screen glass lies .. i means that you will NEVER craft housing middle frame bezel 100% straight by machine .. it would have to be laser machine NOT CnC .. so when screen is placed into frame there is significant bend , squeeze of glass ass glass is slightly bendable elastic
Huawei's GREAT feature which NO ONE phone has it is white Color temperature In this case , I will call it ; this new case (new and new IPS technologies comes across) this neo-ips screen it seems that is not playing together with color temperature feature.. As it perfectly works with M7(mate7) P7 I have color temperature set nearly to max about 85% ! Looks like due to new IPS technology and that RGBW or RGBC feature in LCD has conflict ! In this case (as been this explained in warm results and cold results) It is necessary that once user will be watching films or photos will have to change color temp to warm and WHEN will be surfing on internet and reading text definately slide it to the cooler side ... (not max as it result bluish distortion)
7.Battery life and charging
Again your beloved iphone has to be on top.. aaahh well ... I truly doubt it is better than mate 7 .. rubbish .. ppl saying it has not great battery at all .. I won't comment this In my real world battery life on my mate 7 is nearly two days and on my GF's P7 is whole day .. I don't genuinely believe your iphone or others has better battery .. NO chance ! For charge I don't mind as I charge phone over night so in morning all is ready ...
8./9.Camera and video
Only to say that seen couple vids on youtub or pics on parena or Garena and ppl managed to make nice, great photos so don't really understand your AGAIN so much hatress to this phone I agree video recording is not good part but pictures are very good and even at night ..
10. DISASTER ... ANANDATECH ....YOU are ICON of the internet I will name you KINGS of WEIRDO-GEEKS ... :DDDDD Huawei haters from unknown reason ... bribed by apple ? to keep your site above water..? as everybody corrupted smartphone sites.. Remember Huawei phones ARE NOT for any performance .. you are brainwashed by your fixed bug in head that all in the world HAS to be highest, fastest, best... you are all wrong.. Huawei manuf. they DID described it what they phones are for.. for what use Firstly for elegance , then smart look, for smart ppl not for kids like you type; aah that is sloow that is crap I don't want it gpu and cpuu is sloow.. This smartphone is for grown ppl grown man in suits , for managers, for social women in beautiful dress they love nice and sleek and slim light design, which they will stick this review into your ass and we will say ''WE SIMPLY DO NOT CARE'' if it's not highest specs. GTFOOO |You GLASS-GEEKS
The "T-Rex Offscreen Power Efficiency" is pretty useful. Could you perform the same test on Tegra X1, Tegra K1, A8x, Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 801?
I saw this phone in action in Thailand on a recent trip and I like the quality of the device. At the same time, I moved to Apple mainly due to the quality of the device and the tight software integration. I used Android (on an HTC device) and really did not want to tweak the device constantly to suit my needs.
As a longtime PC/Mac user the fact is that Apple does pay attention to end user needs. IS everything great in Apple land? Of course not. I like the way the interface and hardware are really thought through...little mistakes and changes happen, and the company has been responsive.
The competition between devices really does fuel innovation, and I enjoy seeing those changes implemented in software and hardware. Right now, my money goes to Apple. Who knows where it will go in the future!

It's probably more useful than an iPhone for people who travel a lot and occasionally go off the grid, and thus need the device to still work as a GPS, camera, miniature computer, etc, while drawing all data from fast, convenient local storage...- It has a MicroSDXC slot, so it can take the new 200GB MicroSD storage cards; and
- It has dual SIMS.

I've been a Samsung user for years after being disappointed by the iPhone 3G then HTC in general but now when my contract expires for my Note 3 I am leaving for a Chinese brand, I want to support a company that hasn't given up trying.pgari - Thursday, June 4, 2015 - link
Always surprises me how people in these blogs write about what Apple "should do", but for what? To be even more successful? What are their credentials?Of course, anyone can say what they like or dislike. But the implicit assumption in most of these comments is "I know better", which is, at the least, presumptuous

Well said. Apple already dominates with only a handful of devices and I don't know if they could be in a better position than they are currently.nathanddrews - Friday, June 5, 2015 - link
They're already dead inside.;-)

I think people start making 'I know better' statements because they don't check history.MarcSP - Saturday, June 6, 2015 - link
I agree with many of the things you said, but your theory about iphone as a status symbol is incomplete. I mean, according to what you said it seems that most buyers should be single men, and I have seen as many women as men with iPhone in Shanghai (maybe more, as female tend to follow fashion very strongly, and most cannot choose a phone based on "tech" or "features").Also, many married couples and middle aged and old persons use iPhone.

You guys have probably covered this, but why is UFS on your charts not showing the speed bumps it's showing in benchmarks on other sites? Is it a benchmark software issue, or is that the actual speed you're achieving?tipoo - Thursday, June 4, 2015 - link
One of their previous reviews said they were using an older test that only used a single thread to address IO, which gimped the UFS in the Galaxy S6. I'm not sure if they're still doing that.I don't think they should though - they said it was because the iPhones test was single threaded, but that's not the tests problem, HFS+ only allows one IO thread to access the file system at a time. Dumb for a file system in 2015, but there it is.
JoshHo - Thursday, June 4, 2015 - link
In the time since the Galaxy S6 review we've discussed the effects of multithreaded IO and it has become apparent that this ends up impacting normal eMMC results in an unrealistic manner due to controller overhead as IO in real world applications is treated as a critical section. Combined with the need to maintain comparable tests across Android and iOS, we've decided to continue focusing on single threaded IO performance for internal storage testing.Brakken - Friday, June 5, 2015 - link
I don't understand what you wrote except that the GS6 multithreading is a dog's breakfast. Is this correct?tipoo - Wednesday, June 10, 2015 - link
That's not what he was getting at. Just that multithreaded I/O requests benefit the GS6 UFS flash system while hurting the performance of every other phone, so they decided to stay with the older single threaded test.der - Thursday, June 4, 2015 - link

Why no comparison with the iPhone 6? Dual channel 32-bit = Two 32-bit memory channels. Plus, a 16-bit memory controller could only address 64KB of memory, compared to the maximum of 4GB for a 32-bit controller... It's easy to see the standards of written articles dropping everywhere you look on theinternet, just more annoying when it's a website you visit frequently. Do you guys @
Anandtech bother to read through the articles before you publish? A simple spell
check perhaps?
If English isn't Mr Frumusanu's native tongue this would go a long way towards explaining
the kinds of errors we find in this article.
"I regard the Kirin 920 as quite of an embarrassment" should read as "quite a bit of an
embarrassment.

I had this phone for about 3 weeks a month or so ago and I did actually like it quite a bit. It was fast, responsive and I didn't really have any issues with it. I did like the build quality and I did like the screen quite a bit... I didn't like the battery life though and I thought it would be a great handset if the price would be kept lower (as at the time I didnt know what the price would end up being).A lot better than the P8 Lite tbh.

Huawei should really stop with this Kirin nonsense. Jeeezus anandatech u made me sweat PROPERLY I finished this mega ,tera hexa .. eem .. NO !I will go rather other way ...
* ''only supports UE Category 4 LTE speeds, reaching up to 150Mbps downstream and 50Mpbs upstream.''
-So u claiming that this phone supports LTECat 4 only ?? u liying or u have wrong info as this phone supports LTECat 6 !
*''We had some very harsh words for Mate 7’s camera performances, as both featured very disappointing photo and video quality.''
-Ecxuse me ?? I have feeling that u HAS no experience of taking pictures at all I own Mate 7 and everybody says that my pictures on phone are amazing WTF u trying to say weirdos?? liars! isheep!
*''This is the second kind of implementation RGBW (Or RGBC) after the OmniVision unit found in the original Moto X.''
-yeah why u higlighting it IT WAAS second?? why nobody been talking about it THEN in crappy fail moto x ? what u trying to protect ? or put itno negativneses ?? so WHAT if it''s second ?seriously!
*''It should be noted that the black frame surrounding the actual screen makes it seem as if the device’s size-bezels are much smaller than what they really are, something which is very visible on the lighter coloured models.''
-yeah u picked white version so what u been expecting ?? so stupid every phone which is in withe color must have black borders jesus christ u are unbelieveable .. did u mention this in crapple iphone 6 review? you need more knowledge that if u have black screen version u don't notice any borders! mentals..
*''Huawei called the design a “single audio chamber speaker system”, but in practice the right grill is essentially just for aesthetics and only serves as a housing for the bottom microphone. Covering up the left grill will completely dampen the audio output of the device.''
-eem excuse me and what is the problem that phone has simetrical grills which gives better look ?!?
on your crapple phone wht is there 5 holes on right side and 2 on the left how rubbish crap looking !
dampen audio ?? oh yeah even iphone 5 or 6 or s6 or edge has dampen audio bcos everybody covers holes so obviously sound will be dampen WTF u mentiong this SHT??1?!!? ar u nuts?
* camera module seems to be still 1.5mm underneath the glass.
-ar u serious with this mention ?? jeezus christ .. u are total weirdos FOR REAL ! ATOM REVIEW!
*''he only gripe I’ve had with it is that it seems to have some empty space underneath the back of the phone as if you try to squeeze it will flex inwards by up to 1mm''
- Whaaaaa??? OMG what THE HELL are you doing with smartphones seriously u need HELP !
2.Software - EmotionUI 3.1
*''Huawei continues the choice of not including an application drawer with the EmUI launcher, so all installed apps are placed on the launcher screens.''
-So what? BETTER NOT complain here as u wud have to complain to your beloved iphone so u rather stayed quiet right ?
*''It would be appreciated if Huawei had at least included the option to disable app-icon framing throughout the OS''
-I NEVER EVER heard in my life that SOMEBODY wud comes up with this NON-SENSE sht called ''app-icon framing throughout '' trully u are word inventors ! ... app icon framing .. jeezus christ ..
*''I've praised Huawei's inclusion of a per-app permission manager in the Honor 6 and Mate 7, and it sadly seems that the P8 drops this practice as it no longer is exposed to the user''
-the reason why they didn't include this feature anymore was because all constant annoying remind to close all important apps and services which needs to be running and users been complaining by not receiving notifications , locations not found ! in other phones never been why it bothers you now???
*Although the P8 lacks a fingerprint sensor ''
-trully who uses it?? nobody .. only gay geeks with their glasses 200 bioptries
*''a feature where one would double-tap or draw with a knuckle to capture a screenshot''
-I believe if u root the phone which is easy to do so .. u can nicely disable this feature in file systems (eg build prop)
3.CPU & System Performance
I really NOT going to break down this section as there are 1000 negativeness I would be here till next christmas..
Simply your bars, graphs and compares ARE TOTAL POINTLESS/USELESS t
Completely obsolete as I browse or edit on my mate 7 or on P7 perfectly no problems as any other phone.
What u wanna tell me now u playing multiplayer over smartphones behind desks like idiots like onPC where wifi network speed is inevitable
Pleease DON'T be naive, Huawei instead of you THINK and don't implment stupidly highest wifi module tuner radio JUST for pointless network speed which nobody will NEVER use it for every day use ! Everybody needs fast internet download speed for quick loading pages or downloading files don't you think ? And this P8 managing at best ! Yu fkin thanks god u didn't unsolder wifi chip to check if it's OK or what.. myyy gooosh ..
* While the new eMMC doesn't break any records, it's now among the "average" performing devices out there, as opposed to the horrendous performances of the Mate 7 and Honor 6
-horrendous .. wow so dramatic? I never noticed any horrendous like u oddly describing - bitching !
6.Display Measurement and power
*''together with a NovaTek NT35695 display controller IC''
-jez so u mentioning controller wt-hell and u can tell us brands of capacitors and resistors too ? i think that is important too n ?
*''I noticed a very weird behaviour of the display's brightness that cannot be explained by usual mechanisms such as CABC. The OS clearly alters brightness depending on the application - for example using a browser such as the stock one or Chrome, along with other random applications such as Dropbox or FX Explorer will cause a dimming in the display, if one opens up the recents menu or goes back to the home-screen then one can see how the backlight brightens up. One would think this can be explained with by assuming the default launcher and OS elements are allowed a higher luminosity than other apps, but I've discovered that many other apps don't dim the display.''
- Right here is ONLY first thing right now I can agree with this issue ... yes I have noticed dimming in chrome but u didn't consider it is caused by app ? the chrome app causing this and some others because when u open chrome it auto changes resolution don't thik that you surfing in 1080p ...
this happens to me with my mate 7 so i just increase brightnes a bit and volia .. problem solved..
*''Huawei P8 backlight bleed''
Every phone with ips screen has bleed it is caused by stress which is put by phone frame where screen glass lies .. i means that you will NEVER craft housing middle frame bezel 100% straight by machine .. it would have to be laser machine NOT CnC .. so when screen is placed into frame there is significant bend , squeeze of glass ass glass is slightly bendable elastic
Huawei's GREAT feature which NO ONE phone has it is white Color temperature
In this case , I will call it ; this new case (new and new IPS technologies comes across) this neo-ips screen it seems that is not playing together with color temperature feature..
I won't comment this
In my real world battery life on my mate 7 is nearly two days and on my GF's P7 is whole day ..
I don't genuinely believe your iphone or others has better battery .. NO chance !
For charge I don't mind as I charge phone over night so in morning all is ready ...
8./9.Camera and video
Only to say that seen couple vids on youtub or pics on parena or Garena and ppl managed to make nice, great photos so don't really understand your AGAIN so much hatress to this phone
I agree video recording is not good part but pictures are very good and even at night ..
10.

The "T-Rex Offscreen Power Efficiency" is pretty useful. Could you perform the same test on Tegra X1, Tegra K1, A8x, Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 801?Andrei Frumusanu - Wednesday, June 17, 2015 - link
The S810 and S805 will see their numbers out soon enough but I don't have any device with the other parts.gentrfunk - Wednesday, June 17, 2015 - link
