I wonder if the way they calculate it is similar to how the USAF used to do it. We used to hop on a bike and pedal while having a heart monitor attached. You had to maintain a certain target heart rate for so many minutes at a constant pedal speed to get the calculation.

I'm not entirely convinced these are great new features. The problem is that heart rate from sports devices has been around forever; there hasn't been some new revelation in the field of "heart rate science" that has allowed us to derive all sorts of new information from a simple heart rate. This is just another story of the health wearables market trying to show more value from the same basic set of sensors. In other words, we haven't derived VO2Max from heart rate because the technology hasn't existed--we haven't because heart rate is terrible for calculating all sorts of things, from VO2Max to calories burned to anything else.

I know the original design of the VO2Max also involved a oxygen mask but the logistics became too much. Instead a chart derived from test data was used in its place. Problem was it wasn't very accurate and that's why the USAF abandoned it.

Can we get a test of the accuracy of these features? As others have mentioned, using Heart Rate to estimate VO2Max doesn't have a great track record. Wrist based heart rate monitors don't have a great track record either. It's all well and good to advertise a feature, but if the error bar is huge, that's really going to matter.

(Side note, I would like to see some form of testing on all wearable activity/health trackers/smartwatches that measure accuracy of data)

Thank you for making this suggestion. Could you kindly name a few trustworthy and safe cannabis oil brands? I'm at a loss for words right now.
