An interesting question would be: can they deal with Seagate Archive SMR drives? Some NAS behaved horribly with them when storagereview.com tested it: a rebuild took about 3 times as long as with Hitachi drives of the same capacity.
Synology "qualifies" drives, So the 6TB support is tested with their systems. They'll also change this over time. When i purchased mine 4TB drives were teh largest available, but now it supports 6TB drives.
QNAP also has several sizes of ARM based NAS storage units, with the TS-231 2-drive version priced at $180 on Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8... Through tomorrow 4/15, there's also an extra $40 off via promo code. However, one Newegg review mentions that this unit doesn't support "jumbo frames".
