This build lacks Office, which I need (especially OneNote), and mobile data can't be disabled, plus the users that upgrade from the last build might get some errors that people upgrading from 8.1 won't, so they're recommending flashing 8.1 and then going to the TP. I'll be skipping this one but I wish I wasn't. :(

Overall this is really exciting though. New browser, an updated camera app (with hopefully faster times and Lumia algorithms!), universal apps, Cortana in more countries. Lots to look forward to! I hope they iron out the bugs in WinRT because the constant "loading/resuming" screens are pretty damn annoying.

Mobile Data Toggle works for me. I even tested it. some reported a workaround by adding a non-working access point and activate it then activate the working one again :)

    "which I need"

Why do I keep hearing about people complaining that pre-release software doesn't have what people need? If you *need* anything, you should be using production ready software. This is only for testing on secondary devices.

I see no harm in temporarily trying out early software on a primary device if it's stable enough and does what you need on a daily basis. I am okay on 8.1 until a stable build is released. I am using the W10 TP on my PC and it does everything I need, so why shouldn't I try it? :/ I understand the risks and limitations...

Just did it on my Nokia 1020 to test out. If you have SIM PIN enabled, when prompted, ignore it and hit the Windows button. Then go to settings, phone, and disable it. Otherwise it will lock up.

    Any problems/bugs till now on 1020 ?
    How is the camera ?
  • MonkeyPaw - Saturday, April 11, 2015 - link

I tried installing it on my 1020, and it never made it through the install. It hung up on the spinning gears not long into the install. I let it sit for over 30 minutes with no change to the progress bar. Had to use the Recovery tool to get it back.

Mine hung there for almost an hour and then the bar jumped to about 80% complete

My update appears to be working; step 16 of 21 at this time. I've heard nasty rumours about losing cellular connectivity after a few reboots, however, so I'm ready to dust off my 800 if required (that thing keeps a charge for months if you turn it off). I'm using a 32GB variant on O2 UK and have migrated from 8.1; I had everything barring the Denim firmware.

    Initial findings:

you can't press back from the apps screen, so you need to swipe
you don't get any mail notifications from Outlook Mail (which is where ALL your accounts now reside)
Facebook app is now a little stuttery
    NetFlix no longer works
Project Spartan looks pretty good but Add To Favorites is in symbol language, I can't figure out how you view your favourites, and back doesn't close the browser
    You cannot change Glance settings
Attempting to download speech language results in it queuing
Attempting to check battery usage results in the settings crashing back to the Start screen
Camera is no quicker - if anything, it takes a second longer to launch (5 instead of 4)
As all the last 15 apps appear when holding back, there's no indication of which are active and which aren't
Cortana won't learn my voice :(
Battery does seem to be draining a little quick for my liking
Apps within folders still show their name instead of just their icons
  • Manch - Saturday, April 11, 2015 - link

I found the camera to be quicker but yah. Battery drains quick!
  • silverblue - Sunday, April 12, 2015 - link

    A couple of corrections:

Project Spartan - favourites are inside the Hub
Netflix works if you uninstall and reinstall
Battery seems fine if the phone is idle but drains quickly in use
  • tevodeving - Tuesday, April 14, 2015 - link

in regards to finding your favorites they are in the hub menu inide the three dots in the far right corner

    More:

Camera (not Lumia Camera this time) loads within 3 seconds, but shows five copies of the camera view across the top of the screen in landscape view
MSN Weather only shows the icon and place name on the pinned tile
None of the HERE apps work anymore (nor does Maps for that matter - and you cannot delete your offline maps, which could be the reason for all of them not working)
There's no message informing you to drag down to turn the phone off, and the Goodbye is positioned to the left (though turning off is quicker now)
Popups (esp. those asking for access to location) are too close to the top of the screen, and the title font is too large
The UI DOES feel a bit snappier
Speedtest.net crashes to apps list as does Rightmove
You can delete alarms simply by pressing and holding on them, and selecting delete, instead of needing to go into them
There are two Feedback apps underneath Privacy - the first is the old version (which works), the second the new (which shows nothing)

Thanks. But will wp10 can charge battery in switched of mode. Because my wp8.1 don't have that option. 2) can we see time on lock screen without touching it. Even Nokia feature phone had this two features and
What about Satya nadella (CEO), mother tongue Telugu language support. There is more than 12 % Telugu speaking people in India.

Camera is fine. Actually works faster than it did. Same can't be said for some other apps. They took away the ability to tap the letter in People so you could quick jump to another letter and they made the pics/names way too small. Still playing around with it though. I suggest looking at the fedback already given as guide to look at changed features. The system settings is vastly improved though. Thats the biggest stand out. That and the speed for the camera

Hey bro.. can u please tell, me how to update my lumia 1020..
  • lorribot - Saturday, April 11, 2015 - link

Spartan is an improvement also this version is available for my 925.
  • Laxaa - Saturday, April 11, 2015 - link

As tempted as I am, I'm going to wait until thing becomes more stable before I install anything. Hopefully we will get more complete versions after Build(and as it gets closer to release)
  • Alexvrb - Saturday, April 11, 2015 - link

Yeah don't go for the Fast ring if you don't like alpha-stage updates. I'm definitely going to wait. For those with spare phones to test with - good work, keep the feedback rolling, it helps make a better product.
  • Laxaa - Sunday, April 12, 2015 - link

I only have one phone, the 920 as my daily driver and I'm not going to buy a 635 just to mess around with this update for five minutes.

ArsTechinca and Windows Central both have some in-depth previews of it, and while it certainly looks rough, there is a lot of promise.

Don't let your battery die. Mines been on the charger for 30min now. Nokia ops up and then it dies, Nokia pops up then it dies. Stupid auto turn on is preventing the battery from charging. Hope this doesnt brick it. Going to roll it back to 8.1
  • Gidz - Saturday, April 11, 2015 - link

Can anyone help me... mine lumia 1020 is not updating.. how to update it.. please let me kno.
  • Manch - Saturday, April 11, 2015 - link

Get the windows insider from the store. Select the fast ring build and it will pull the update down. Once it does, install it. However, this build is so buggy, I wouldn't. I can't enable airplane mode which is usually the only way to sestart your sim. My cell network is turned off now for some reason and I can't turn it on so I can't make phone calls. I now have a phone sized alpha build tablet. I'm trying to figure out how to roll back

OO so warranty wont cover if demage happens....
  • damianrobertjones - Monday, April 13, 2015 - link

NOTHING covers 'Demage'. Demage is serious stuff.
  • MirXD - Sunday, April 12, 2015 - link

    Smaller UI/Fonts
    smoother transitions.
Long black screen on some apps when loading.
  • HardwareDufus - Monday, April 13, 2015 - link

I put it on my 1520. Very buggy (ok, unuseable) and determined I should Recover back to 8.1.
However, I thought.. my data is all backed up, why not do a RESET?... then my 10 install will be like a clean install as opposed to an upgrade.
What a difference. RESET, then restored my App data, settings, etc from a pre Win10 backup and very, very stable. Many have commented that a RESET made all the difference in the stability/useability.

I hope my experience will help others who are finding Win10 almost unuseable actually be able to take it for a meaningful spin. For now, I'm going to keep it around on the phone.. I can live with some of the shortcomings.

Is the calendar functionality similar to that in 8.1? That organization is fantastic and I'd hate to lose it.
