Rather clever, actually. The battery in the tube area effectively lowers its center of gravity, reducing the burden of keyboard's hinge to keep the screen upright without having to resort to a Surface style kickstand.

(I'm just guessing there's no kickstand. If there isn't one, then this will start a trend. Surely.)

Looks like a good evolution of the Lenovo Android tablets.
  • kpkp - Wednesday, April 8, 2015 - link

Next step, display rolls out of the "tube".

    Or rather, Sony Tablet S-series.
  • nathanddrews - Thursday, April 9, 2015 - link

But actually a near-ripoff of the Sony VAIO PCG-505 from 18 years ago. I must have sold a hundred of those things.

God those Transmetta CPU's were hella awful though!
  • 074geodude - Wednesday, April 8, 2015 - link

Haven't held one in my hand yet, but that looks extremely awkward to hold.
  • HurleyBird - Wednesday, April 8, 2015 - link

Actually, I think the tube should provide a certain amount of grip-ability, at least in portrait mode. Landscape mode promises to be a bit awkward though.

I've definitely read complements of the fairly similar (fairly obvious inspiration really :)) Leonovo things in terms of it helping to hold them.

    Can't hurt battery life either.

I'll take a Surface 3 (that can actually run full Windows) for the same price, thanks anyway.
  • taisingera - Wednesday, April 8, 2015 - link

Agreed. This thing makes the Surface 3 seem like a good deal now. What is with these $130 keyboards though?
  • Laxaa - Thursday, April 9, 2015 - link

I guess thats where the profits are(just like $60 game controllers)

    This.

Is there a stand built in to the cylinder area similar to the lenovo yoga tablets? I'm not seeing any mention of it nor can see one in the pictures but would make sense to have one.
  • Wolfpup - Wednesday, April 8, 2015 - link

Looks like nice hardware, but unless it's running Windows or real OS X, I'm just not interested. Well, unless it was like $50-100 maybe.
  • WorldWithoutMadness - Wednesday, April 8, 2015 - link

Lol, 499$. You can get the Venue Pro 10 5000 + keyboard dock for less than that and runs full windows with wacom AES.

Or even better, just wait for surface 3. These android tablets are getting out of hand lately.

Tube idea is rubbish without its own support like lenovo.
  • jaydee - Wednesday, April 8, 2015 - link

shouldn't this be running Chrome OS instead of Android?
  • Valantar - Thursday, April 9, 2015 - link

I have to say it's pretty lazy journalism not to comment on how similar this design is to the Lenovo Yoga series. It's a good design, and well worth taking inspiration from, but give credit where it's due, please.
  • BMNify - Thursday, April 9, 2015 - link

Better buy Dell Venue Pro 10 or Surface 3 at the same price.
  • buevaping - Thursday, April 9, 2015 - link

Yes, I agree with you spend the same for lower resolution tablet with a lower amount of touch software because it runs magical Windows. None of the listed options will replace an real i5 laptop that I can use in my lap or on a desk. But at least this device is primary for touch has more touch software options. Just say no to distractions and pseudo tablets when you need a darn Windows laptop. I would be interested in Surface 3 with Windows 10 and no keyboard cover and more touch software. But it needs more ram for the entry level model.

Can't see Dell not offering this with Windows, just a matter of installing the different OS on it for the most part. But it's not meant to replace a real Core i laptop anyway, however as a secondary machine it's an interesting option if/when they do put Windows on it. I like the Surface 3 also, but this could be a close contender with Windows 8.1/10 on it. While the ecosystem of apps isn't there my Android tablet just doesn't do things my windows laptop does so easily, like access my network shares.
  • pSupaNova - Saturday, April 11, 2015 - link

Not really, Windows would spoil this form factor it is just not fit for purpose on tablets yet.

Android is becoming more productive every day, and if you really want to use Windows just use a app like Splashtop 2 to remote in to your Windows/OSX box
  • Baron_Fel - Sunday, April 12, 2015 - link

Or you could just get a surface and not have to use windows over the internet lol
  • fredddd4 - Friday, April 10, 2015 - link

Good old 'very unique' strikes again. Yes this unique device is more unique than other unique devices. Someone get Brandon a dictionary ffs.
