I've had my eye on it too, I wanna get a new tablet for my mother to replace her aging OG ASUS Transformer... Kinda waiting for the Nexus 9 review from Anandtech, I think it's a little overpriced and the build quality seems disappointing for the price but I think my mom would actually really like the 4:3 aspect ratio.
Shield is basically the runner up, even tho she won't use any of the gaming elements or possibly even the stylus. Almost tempted to get a Shield and give her my Nexus 7... Does Shield support screen mirroring via Chromecast yet? Or after Lollipop? I've been using that a lot... And my mother probably would too, heck does the N9 support it?
Looks like I'll have to return and repurchase the Shield Tab if I want the free games. They aren't doing a retroactive thing. Which is pretty dumb considering that recent 970 and 980 buyers were able to get in on the Pick Your Path bundles.
There isn't anything official; however, Newegg, in particular, has been rather kind by (usually) giving a code to customers who purchased an applicable product within the past 30 days.
I purchased my MSI GT72 from Newegg, and the Pick Your Path offer mentioned 980M-equipped laptops, but Newegg wasn't offering it. I asked a CSR whether they were going to offer the deal with laptops, and they just offered me the code right then and there. I was actually a bit surprised since I technically didn't even ask for it!
Wouldn't it have been awesome if Nvidia could have released this as a Windows tablet? Every time any Shield anything gets announced it's the same thing for me...cool hardware, but I sure wish it ran Windows.
I wonder what the deal is with Intel being able to refuse to license x86. Only occurred to me last night that if Nvidia had gotten the license, we'd probably have a Denver based Windows Shield tablet by now. Forget having 4 games written for it that won't run on other Android devices, you'd have your entire gigantic library of hundreds of real Windows games. *sigh*
As an Android device, about the only thing I'm interested in it for is as an ebook reader, and then 8" is just really small for magazines or graphic novels...
Also, is the controller/portable gaming device thingee getting Lollipop quickly too? In some ways I sort of find it more interesting, as it's basically a $200 controller for your PC with a screen built in, which is kind of awesome if you've got an Nvidia GPU (and there's a good chance of that, so...)
Ehh, 8" is kinda small for a Windows tablet, and without x86 support it's pointless. The real question is why isn't Intel prompting OEM to build more 10-12" hybrid devices with their low cost x86 Atom parts...
Surface Pro is great but pricey, and there's some budget Asus models here and there that fit the description, but there should be dozens of hybrid x86 devices putting pricing pressure on high end Android/iOS tablets.
Still tho, Shield is like $300, I'm not sure Windows tablets could compete under $400 without sacrificing other things...
The Shield can stream your PC games, so you're not limited to just those that are Android compatible. That was the primary reason I got one. You can plug it in to your TV, use the controller, and you've basically got a console system for PC games.
I am glad we can get away from the Wintel monopoly. It is getting easier by the day to move older programs and games to newer platforms. Seems to me you just want a SP3. Please let Nvidia fly free with ARM and Android and let Wintel slowly die with their own devices.
They didn't say it, but in early 2015 there will be Croteam's Talos Principle on the Tegra K1. And, i knew that it was Ep1)) But there should be The Orange Box instead of Green Box)
Is War Thunder available yet? I'm not a gamer but I have to say that game looks really appealing to me. Being in the market for a tablet, not too smitten with the Nexus 9, and liking the thought of having a stylus I have to say the Shield Tablet is on the short list. The idea of firing up War Thunder on the flat screen is pretty tempting too.
This is all good, but I wonder if, with the release of 64 bit android L, they will finally be selling the shield with an option for using the denver core? it's pin compatible with the first K1, but nvidia's own flagship doesn't use it.
So if the Source engine has been ported to ARM, will we be able to play HL2 on ARM Chromebooks one day? ... How long will this be an exclusive, anyway?
Useless troll comment is useless. Seriously though, what in the hell do you even mean? I have one, and it's great. As a matter of fact I would say it's the best android tablet value on the market, especially if you happen to be a PC gamer.

"...recent 970 and 980 buyers were able to get in on the Pick Your Path bundles."Really? I hadn't heard that -- link please, as I bought a 970 and wouldn't mind getting a free game out of it.

Remembering how bad the nForce motherboards and the Tegra 3/4 were, I can only imagine mixing nVidia, SOC's, AND x86 into one horrible package. We're better off without nVidia making x86 chips. The world is better off.
