Yes, because it never happened before then? Anyway, it was corrected about ten seconds after posting, but of course the Tweet that went out has it wrong. LOL
Blargh... so when I clicked to put the H into Launces, somehow my cursor ended up at the end of the line and I didn't look closely. Oops. So we got Laptoph instead of Launches. Fixed, properly, now.
I guess they have little choice on the timing given the holiday season that is just around the corner, but it's a shame to release a new product with an Intel CPU that's going to be replaced with a significantly better one in two or three months.
Not really, because six hours of light use means when you start turning up the brightness and doing a bit more stuff you drop to 4-5 hours. I want a laptop I can really take away from the outlet for a typical eight hour workday. The XPS 15 is technically "good enough", but it has throttling issues and less performance, and I know from experience that it can be more like four hours of real work for me.
Exactly. There's no reason these notebooks can't get ultrabook quality battery life with the dGPU off. They're running similar processors and have larger batteries to compensate for not having ULV CPUs.
I like the keyboard. If I was to nitpick, I think the keys could have been shifted to the left, because those wasd keys are closer to the center than the left of the body, which means that screen is going to be off to the left, or your arm is not going to be sticking straight out.
I think the keyboard is awful myself. The centered WASD keys that you mentioned is a big annoyance definitely, especially since your arm will be in the way of the touchpad. Not an issue for gaming if there is a button to turn the touchpad off because you'll be using an external mouse, but for literally any situation where you aren't at a desk using an external mouse, but typing on the keyboard, it is going to be a pain in the ASS having your arm touching the touchpad so much.
And then those arrow keys? I haven't seen a successful gaming centric laptop use those kinds of arrow keys because most everyone who buys gaming laptops hates that crap.
And $1,500 for a 15" gaming laptop should buy you a number pad. 14"? Sure, you can leave it out. But a 15" high end laptop with no number pad is another HUGE annoyance that the gaming-laptop community hates. The fact that they tapered the edges for the looks has made it impossible to get a good keyboard in there and is the cause of the stupid ass design decision that all ports in the back is a good idea. (echoing Jarred's opinion on the ports in the back) There's a reason why thin yet powerful laptops are rather square around the edges, it's so they can be thin AND functional...... I really have qualms with the design of this laptop......
Always glad when there's more gaming hardware on the market, but like Razer's stuff I think this is silly. The Alienware 13 has the exact same GPU for $600 less, a proven track record...AND has that awesome port to allow you to hook up a desktop Geforce GTX 980, or any other video card you want in the future.
Oh well, it's a heck of a lot more interesting than yet another sub $600 notebook LOL
The Alienware 13 has an ULV processor, this has a full voltage quad-core. While that probably won't matter very much in games with only a GTX 860m it would make this a very good laptop for people who want performance, but gaming isn't their #1 priority. I'd consider this if I was looking for a new laptop, it checks all my boxes.
The Alienware 13 is definitely interesting, but remember that the $999 (on sale from $1099) configuration comes with a yucky 1366x768 TN panel and a 500GB HDD (with an 8GB SSD-ish cache). Make that a 1080p IPS panel and a 256GB SSD and the sale price is now $1299, so it's more like $300 less than the HP Omen for similar hardware.
I was pondering one of these, and noticed the the Zotac ZBOX EN760 has the same GPU for $1000 less money. I realize it's not a laptop, but it's very small and very quiet, and I rarely use a laptop without an external monitor anyway.
If the 860M is what you want, and (1) you don't need portable (2) you don't need a quad core i7 when not gaming, the zotac (plus 8GB Ram stick, plus hard drive) is the cheapest way to get a 860M.

"What I want to see now is one that can do seven hours of battery life for everyday tasks while still packing at least a GTX 860M"The Blade 14 does 6 hours with an 870M. That's close enough right?

I'll still waiting for something decent with at least a 970m in it. I wouldn't touch a consumer grade HP laptop anyway.meacupla - Tuesday, November 4, 2014 - link
