Thank you for years of fine reading, active debate and enthusiastic guidance. I look forward to many years to come with superb crew that have gathered around the cause. May your future endeavors be as fruitful and rewarding to yourself and those around you as you have graced us with for this past decade and a half. Best wishes to you and thank you.
All the best wishes to you Anand, you have given us one of the best and most detailed review sites on the internet today. Whatever the future challenges you choose to engage in, I know you will excel in those just as well. *bows deeply* Thank you :)
Good luck Anand!!! The information on your site has been invaluable to my work and play in the tech industry in the years I've been reading it (early 2000s).
So what's next for "theshimpi"? If you're doing anything in the public realm keep us updated!
Thanks for your contributions Anandtech. I've followed you from the beginning and have enjoyed it. Change is Good. The Learning Never Stops. Que le vaya bien.
Wow this is a shocker. Though I was curious as to why Ian started reviewing CPU's which had always been Anand's domain. Thanks for everything Anand. You will be missed. Good luck.
I was listening to your last podcast (again) this morning, and I was just thinking that I missed you and Brian's interaction on there. Thanks for all the excellent content, and good luck!
Thank you so very much for sharing all your knowledge these past years. I've been following basically from the start and built my absolute love for tech throughout those years. Best of luck Anand, I am sure wherever you land will be a wild and fulfilling ride!
Wow, good sign off and thanks for basically the only site I go to for understanding the actual workings of modern silicon (and whatever might replace it).
In 1997 I was doing a 4th grade science project on RISC vs CISC processing architecture. And while I might have grown more interested in physics and etc. since then, it's still wonderful to be able to come to Anandtech and learn something about computer engineering every once in a while. Best of luck in whatever else you do!
Wow, Anand! Sad news. Thanks for all your efforts leading this site! I've been a reader forever. Not sure I first started, but I found a forum post from 2003. So I know that I can say that you put out useful content day after day, month after month, year after year. I learned a lot about PC tech from your articles, and it was (and still is) a key resource in understand the trends in tech today. Best of luck in your future endeavours!
Thank you and good luck in your future endeavors. In regards to the anandtech comments, compared to pretty much any other website, i find the comments here to be the best, little to no negativity and almost always a great discussion on the topic.
Wow. Anand, you will be missed! I have been reading your site since 1997/1998, when I myself was 14. The tech world will be different for me forever because of you and your expertise. Ryan, best of luck.
Thank you, Anand. Without the opportunities you gave me at AnandTech, I wouldn't be working at Corsair today, and I wouldn't have a bright future ahead of me.
AnandTech was and is full of opportunities for young talent. Writing for this site for the three years that I was here ranks among my proudest achievements.
I feel like I've been reading your reviews for my entire life, and I'm sad that will change but I want to thank you for creating a place for accuracy and detail to thrive. I think Anandtech has shaped the review space for the better, or at the very least we could always just say upon reading a badly write review "just wait for the Anandtech review." I hope that never changes.
Thank you again for all you've done and I wish you the best.
Wow, didn't expect that. Anandtech was one of the first sites that got me into technology, and Anand himself was always a very good pundit about where things were going and getting to the bottom of problems. I'll miss his insights.
This is quite the bittersweet event. Excited for the future yet sad about this monumental changing of the guard.
Best of luck in everything that you do. As another commentator wrote: I'm waiting for the anandtech review for the whole truth will forever be my line.
Wow this saddens me. With well written, unbiased and thoroughly proofread articles, your site has been the #1 resource for me when evaluating new technology. I hope you can find the time to drop by once in a while for the occasional guest review when something big comes along. Good luck in the future and thank you again for all the years of sharing your vast knowledge!
I knew this was coming. Tell-tale signs over the past year or more. I'm crying inside. Anandtech has been my homepage since 1998 (I'm 34). That's not an exaggeration.
I also have faith in the team that has and will continue to run this site. AT could easily be my homepage til the day I die.
GL in the future Anand. I know at some point you'll make rare surprise appearances with articles when something unbelievable happens :), like AMD retaking the performance crown LOL, or the debut of the first quantum cpu... Writing technique only gets better with age. We'll see you then!
That was my reaction as well. Don't take this the wrong way, Anand, but somehow I always assume that people that I'm learning from(like you) are older and wiser. The realization that we're just about the same age is humbling.
Best wishes Anand. I cant say im not sad, we are the same age and ive been following your articles for as long as i can remember. What you have taught me about micro architecture and other technical things as been invaluable, you found a way to bring highly technical engineering to the masses in a way no one else has been able to.
I thank you for all the time you have put in and wish you the best in all your future endeavors!
All the best to you, Anand! I hope your next stage is ever more engaging and fulfilling than this has been.
Thank you for all the superior quality writing and analysis. It has been extremely appreciated and a pure joy to read. I have learned a great deal from your deep articles, far more than just "how does this device compare." I will never be able to repay you for all that insight and knowledge.
I would also like to amend with how you made such a positive impact on the industry itself. No small feat, to say the least! Can't wait to hear what you'll be up to next.
I've been reading your site on and off ever since 1998 or so when I was a kid a couple years younger than yourself. Whenever I come back it is because I want to know what the state of the consumer hardware industry is, and I know there is no better site for original in-depth analysis, and most importantly, sane and balanced writing. I've seen the move from solely enthusiast PC hardware to Apple products and mobile, and it has always worked because of your genuine openness to learning.
Good luck in your future endeavors, I hope it stays interesting.
Anand, I've been visiting your site since about late 1998. Most of the tech and gaming sites that were around back then either don't exist anymore or are a shadow of their former selves, but AnandTech has always been top notch. Reading one of your new SSD or CPU articles was always something that I really looked forward to. I couldn't imagine what it was like for you flying all over the world and talking to the big people in the industry, but I am sure it was anything but dull. I will continue to visit AnandTech, but not seeing articles or posts written by you anymore does make me sad. Good luck with the future and I hope you find happiness with whatever you decide to do.
Even though I am not someone who has been here very long to read through your articles, I still wanted to say thank you for the site as I do enjoy reading the articles posted here to see the new tech coming out and so on. As with the others, I also wish you the very best with your future endeavors.
I have been reading you since a very long time and I appreciate the time and effort you have put into this venture. Thank you - and all the best to you, Anand.
Wow !! I've been reading your site since '97 ( The screensavers show)!! You'll be truly missed! you made tech fun and interesting ! Enjoy your next challenge you've truly earned it!
Thanks for all you have provided throughout the years. I've been coming here since the beginning. This site is without doubt the best tech site. AnandTech has always been my go to site any time I was building a new PC or wanted any tech related info. Best of luck to you on all your future endeavors!
I've been reading the site for almost as long as I can remember being on the internet (is that 15 years?). I have a tremendous respect for what you've accomplished, the way this site is run, the amount of knowledge it holds and the way it discloses it. The combination is unique and the fact that the community is so knowledgeable is a testament to that.
I wish you happiness in your new endeavors, and thank you a million times for the years you spent creating this beautiful monster.
I've been a reader almost since the beginning, and just want to say: Best wishes in everything you do, and you will be missed. I'm worried this place won't be the same without you, but at least you're passing the reins to someone who knows the ropes.
Like many that have posted here I have been visiting this site on a daily basis since the late 90's. The level of expertise and quality writing that has gone into the countless articles has always been second to none. Your insight and knowledge will be missed Anand. I wish you the best with whatever your future holds!
In the 90's, I remember stumbling on to this page of the web, run by a kid who was reviewing a new motherboard. I was so impressed with the review, that I ended up purchasing the motherboard and found the motherboard every bit as “hot” as this kid said it was. Who knew what he would become and how he influenced so much of the technology sites on the web. He set the bar for everyone else. Keep in touch kid!
When I joined in 2000, I was a high school drop out doing construction work. 14 years later and I've worked in the software industry for 13 years and speak at tech conferences about computer hardware and test automation.
I owe a lot to the site, to you, to the AT community. Thank you!
Many thanks for creating what has become a mainstay of component and related reviews for me. I've always been compelled by the thorough nature and technical rigor you brought to your articles. Best of luck.
I can't believe that this is the end of an era. I think I have been following this site since just after its move off of geocities (I remember reading articles here from my freshman year in college, which would have been '98 in). I also remember the old forums before the end of October 99 when we were all needed to recreate accounts. The community here was truly built by your dedication and passion for getting us the best information as you knew it and keeping us up to date with the latest hardware releases. Back in those days, finding a place that really kept up with the changing hardware market was hard to find (well, not really, as there were only 2-3 good sources, but search engines were still not very good or comprehensive (in fact google did not even exist yet)).
I think I can say with many people here that we will miss your insights and pull that you had within the hardware industry. Over the years that pull is what resolved many serious issues, from consumers being abandoned by manufacturers when fatal bugs were found, to firmware being fixed, to flat out lies and misrepresentation of information spreading about certain hardware capabilities. I hope the new team can continue the good work you created and continued all these years (they have very big shoes that are now missing which can never be filled, but simply stood upon to hopefully continue the work).
Thanks so much for all your work. I've been reading the site for almost 15 years and it was one the principal sites that fostered and developed my interest in hardware.
Thanks so much and good luck in your personal and professional life.
Huh, you were just doing video blogging and now you're stopping all blogging? I can totally understand the urge to never want to fly again and to step back a bit, but how about an opinion blog or something every once in a while?
Just technology-wise, there have been so many things over the years that you have had a positive impact on. One that comes to mind is your impact on SSD performance, the initial craze for maximum sequential speed at the expense of random IO that often led to stuttering, etc. and pushing manufacturers to deliver overall performance. I'd also say you've had a huge impact on mobile as well. I loved looking forward to your articles explaining how tech works at a low level and what design choices have to be considered on CPUs, SSDs, dissecting, analyzing and searching for answers on things like the architecture for Apple's various new SoC over the years, and countless other things. My biggest fear at this moment is we won't get to benefit from you pushing things forward (like with SSDs as an example). You will be missed :(
Thankyou Anand. I've been reading and listening to your articles for the better part of 13 years now (since I myself was about 13). As much as you have thanked the people over the years for what they have taught you, I would like to extend the same thanks to you. No one single person has taught me as much in regards to technology as you have. Especially in-depth product knowledge that I have drawn upon on many occasions when asked for advice from friends, family and colleagues.
I hold AnAndTech to be the most trusted, reliable and read-worthy tech site on the internet today - and a large part of that is due to the standards that you have set.
Thanks Anand for all your great work over the years.
If there were two articles that stick out in my mind the most I think it would be the Intel Moorestown article and the AMD RV770 story. Both of those, particularly the Moorestown article had me reading for hours. You did a good job explaining the details and I really appreciated the effort you put into your work.
I've been visiting AnandTech for about 15 years and while I can't say my passion for technology would have been any less without AnandTech, it sure would have been different. My career has grown from my love of technology, so thank you, Anand, for whatever part you played in me arriving where I am today.
Anand, you are legend. Thank you for your years of tireless efforts and overflowing enthusiasm in all things tech. Wish you all the best as you begin this new chapter in your life!
first of all. THANK you Anand for so many years of the BEST reviews on the internet you have given us. Wish you the best in your life.
Having said that, it's time to remove anandtech from my bookmarks, Ryan Smith is no where near as good as you are not to mention he is an Apple sell out.
:( sad... good bye anandtech. now besides mega sell Tomshardware page and idiotic conclusions semiaccurate... what is left? it is a sad sad day.
Hope you reconsider Anand... you really are the BEST.
I made an account just to post here. Anand you have crafted a unique community that serves as a model for all others. I'm sad I won't be hearing you on any more podcasts or reading you on the site, but I wish you the very best of luck!
I have been reading your articles since 1998 and enjoyed everyone of them. Every time I read one of your older reviews it has a certain freshness to it intertwined with a nostalgic feeling. Your contribution to the world of quality technical publishing has been immense.
All the very best to your future projects. I am sure your limitless passion and diligence will bring you even more success.
Thanks for all your work on Anandtech. It has definitely made me into a better nerd. (pocket protector and everything) Good luck with your future endeavours.
As a 15-year plus reader, thanks for everything you have done! Still my favorite and 'go to' site after all these years. Good luck with your new opportunities!!
I've been a fan since the early days. '97-'98 Seems about right. I met you(Anand) at a computer big box store in the Raliegh. I think it was CompUSA. I was shopping with a friend for his new video card. He was insisting on getting an S3 card I think. I was telling him about 3Dfx and how they where changing things. I can't remember exactly how the conversation started with Anand but he told me about his website and said I should check it out. I've been coming back ever since. I'm sad right now but I wish Anand good luck in his future endeavors.
Thanks a lot Anand. I grew into tech with your site, and I remember reading your reviews feverishly when I was younger. Now I'm more interested in your background articles, and those are an education. You've taught me, and are still teaching me, incredibly interesting (and sometimes useful ^^) stuff. All the best to you, and to the new-ish team. I wish you the best,
Thank you for all your work, you'll be truly missed. This site has inspired me to pursue a higher degree in electronics engineering and I'm sure many of us here have been impacted greatly.
Thanks for the many years of great articles! I found your site while writing a paper sophomore year of college on (the original) DDR memory. I have been hooked since. Good luck on your next adventure, I'll miss your unique outlook on technology.
Anand -- so sorry to see you leave, but the very best of luck to you! I first came across your site in 2008 when researching SSDs, and your analysis was the best, bar none. I even emailed you for a recommendation between trade-offs, and you took the time to help me out. I will miss your perspective here, but thank you for always maintaining a standard of excellence and integrity.
I'm honestly shocked and saddened by this news. I can't believe Anand is leaving the site. Over the past decade this has become my favorite tech site bar none. It's insightful, professional, and maintains a high degree of journalistic integrity. I can only hope hope it will continue to do so in the years to come (I have faith in Ryan's abilities, love his articles too). But I think I'm really going to miss just listening to Anand talk about tech, really interesting and informed perspective on things.
Thank you for your work and all your amazing contributions. You set the bar high for tech reporting. Good luck Anand in whatever you do next.
Been reading you since the early days, Anand. I can understand the urge to move on or at least take a break. But I don't have to like it. And I don't. Not one bit. With your absence I can't help but feel acutely that I'll be missing a trusted analytic voice. And that's not a common thing to come by. I'll keep reading Anandtech because you've told me you've set it up with the right people to continue on with the same quality I learned to expect of you. I'll take your word on that as I've learned to take your word and value your opinion on so many things. Have fun. Hope to see you back some day.
Wow. End of an era. I missed all the shake ups at Tom's, Sharky, Inquirer, etc. So this is "a first" for me. I've been at OCZ for over 10 years now. Pretty much everything I've learned about computers, I REALLY learned reading AT. I think I read The SSD Anthology at least 50 times. You are the reason I know what an SSD is and does and how it should behave. Not to mention you single handedly changed OCZ SSD firmware, warranties, and customer service initiatives.
I know you've been doing this for over 17 years, but I will kindly thank you for 10 of those. Before that, I couldn't name one component inside a computer...a sad existence!
I'm sad you are leaving this crazy world but I'm more sad this post didn't mention your favorite product you tested over the last 17 years...the OCZ "brain mouse." ;)
We wish you all the best in whatever you take on next. If it's basket weaving, they will be the most awesome baskets I'm sure.
Disclaimer: I've had two beers and this is 'sent from my iPhone'
I've been reading this site for over a decade. This is the best place to get informative reviews on tech. I'm sad to see you go, but I have no fear that you will be successful in whatever you do next! Thanks for great reads! Brad
aww dammit. You will be missed. Godspeed on the next phase of your life. Be proud of what you have done here, and im sure the community will continue to support the team.
Anand, I've been reading your site for many years and I'm sorry to see you go; after all, the site's named after you! Thanks for all the excellent reviews over the years. We've learned a lot from them and we appreciate the quality of everything you've done. Godspeed!
I don't know how long I've read AnandTech. I know I started early in college (which I started in 1996) so it must have been very early on. I still recall one of our professors telling us in 1999 in our class on computer hardware that we should just read AnandTech and we'd ace the class. As someone that already was a reader, he was certainly right about that.
Years later, as my wife pursued her PhD at UNC, I still recall being amazed that one of my fellow programmers went to high school with Anand. At that point I had no idea that a couple years later I would start writing for the site as well.
The example Anand set has given all of us that write here something to strive for. I will never know as much about CPUs or SSDs that Anand does, but he helped me understand them better than I ever did before. We all have a lot to live up to here now, and we're all going to do as much as we can to do so.
I started reading AnandTech back in 1999, and it has always been my first choice for high quality, in depth reviews. It has always been a cut above the rest. Thank you for helping me choose great parts for the many PCs I've built over the years. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors!
Thanks for the years of outstanding in-depth reviews, comprehensive industry news, and a depth and unbiased approach that rivals most journalist (not just tech journalist) working in any field. This has been my go-to site for a decade when I needed real information and not just fluff or top-10 lists. Your dedication will be missed and I wish you the best in your future endeavors.
Thank you Anand for everything you have done!! I've been a reader of AnandTech starting back in 1997 when I was a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Because of you, I built my first custom-built computer and ended up with a Masters in Information Technology when I was planning to get an MBA. Out of the numerous articles I've read over the years, I always loved reading your articles. Thank you again for all you did and I wish you the best in your next adventure!
You will be missed. I loved your ability to effortlessly break down even the most complicated of tech and explain them in such layman terms that even a tech-idiot like myself can understand it immediately.
You are the only person I trust to give objective and through reviews of Apple products. Regardless, I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. :)
Talk about big shoes to fill. For years now, whenever I mentioned that I learned about something from ANANDTECH, everyone rightly assumed it to be true and factual. Like stone tablets by the burning bush. A nice legacy for any man. It will be strange having a tech upgrade cycle that you will not influence. Thank You and Best Wishes
Anand, You and your team have built "The" most respected and trusted tech site around. Good luck to you and the AnandTech team with whatever the future may hold. All good things... Jason S.
A tear. :~( Your work on AT has been a tour de force. I've enjoyed and considerably relied on your shrewd, impartial, deeply insightful analysis of everything tech-related for many, many years and will truly miss all of the above. Thanks for everything and best wishes wherever the future finds you.
Ryan and the gang,
Congratulations. Yours and all the editors' tremendous efforts inspire full confidence in the continued excellence of AT. Keep calm and review on!
AnandTech is my online home. Sad to see Anand go, but hopefully he succeeds in whatever he pursues. :) Truly one of the best reviewers and tech journalists of all time.
Thanks so very much for your _leadership_ over the years Anand.
You kept the tech industry honest, called them out on their benchmarketing, and championed the consumer. From display quality, to poor NAND performance, and questionable frequency unthrottling, you've been there the whole time calling them out on their shenanigans.
I want the staff of AnandTech to hold on to your integrity and this resolve of yours for decades to come.
I've been proud to be a reader of yours for over a decade, from my first Abit (what a sweet board) through to the crazy world of walled-gardens and locked down devices that we now inhabit.
Thank you oh so very much for everything. You are a shining star and a damn fine gentleman. And now you've made me all sappy and sentimental... :)
Anand, thank you so much for everything. I've pretty much followed you from the beginning and I have learned so much. I have tremendous respect for you and the quality of work you've always put into all of your articles. I look forward to hearing what you do next.
Thank you Anand for all your help and wisdom over the years. Without your site I wouldn't have had the guts or ability to stay abreast of building my own PCs back in early 2000s...good luck in your next phase of life!
I'm sorry to see you retire from Anandtech, but the best of luck in your future endeavors. I've been along for the ride as a reader for sixteen years, because the kid had the most mature coverage of the technology for the hobbyist.
Good luck in your future endeavors. I've loved this site for years. It won't be the same without you, but it will still be my favorite place for component reviews for as long as it's around.
Good Luck to you on your next endeavor. As always thank you for this site and the unique reviews we have always received. You have been behind many of my purchasing situations over the years.
Thanks for everything Anand. Yours was and is the first site I click on when the PC gets turned on. I've learned more about computers from this site than any others. Best of luck.
I can honestly say I'm sad to see you go but I understand your reason. I have been reading AnandTech for as long as you've been posting on it through a 2400 Baud modem to the suprisingly not light years better broad band connection from TW Cable and I can only feel like a little bit of my memory from those days is fading away.
My hope is that this site will continue to be what it has always been, a truly independent review of everything tech and not a business trend to follow and abuse for profit.
Good luck to you Anand. I have a strong feeling that anything you do in the future will be just as successful as AnandTech has been.
Have been a reader since I don't remember how long! Never felt like creating an account to post a comment earlier, but today it changed. Thanks for all the good reads over the years. Still remember waiting for AT reviews for CPUs when the race was hot. All the best Anand!!
Well umm I only just figured out that Anandtech's advertising agency was lmcd... That's also a piece-together of my name so sorry for any confusion! (Though I don't comment much anyway.)
Sorry to see you go, Anand, and it'd be nice if Anandtech kept up a somewhat public correspondence with you (say, a Pipeline story any quarter that anything interesting has happened). As it is we'll miss you tons :(
Came here for the tech, then got emotional when I saw that cover photo - it could mean only one thing. I have been an avid reader of this site since forever. It helped shape my love and interest in technology and hardware. I have frequented this site almost daily for over a decade because of the quality of writing and unbiased attitude. When you started covering Macs more, I was really excited (as a life long Mac user). I'm really grateful for all of your efforts Anand and you will be missed, but I won't be going anywhere as a reader. I'll be back here daily to follow what the rest of your amazing team has to offer. Thanks for the random access memories. Scott.
Anand, Thank you for creating this site. You improved the quality of journalism and the quality of the subject matter over a long period of time. Thanks for all you have taught me over the years. T
Thank you so much Anand. I've been reading this site from the beginning, but not really ever posting. This is so much a reason to post and say thank you! You have taught me so much and I respect you greatly. Thank you, God bless.
Honestly thought I would never see this day. I've been a reader of this site for at least a decade, and Anand's approach to articles have always kept me coming back. To all of the newish reviewers and writers - I've noticed your hard work too. Everyone has been really producing quality work. I also love that you guys have taken the time to read the comments and actually participate in them. I eagerly anticipated the review of the new Haswell-E processors and was completely floored to see it wasn't Anand that wrote it. He is always on those cutting edge ones.
Anand - This site and the brand that you have built is truly a great accomplishment. From all of us on the Internet, we deeply appreciate your work and are truly very sad to see you leave!! Good luck with whatever you get involved in next. Please, keep in touch with your internet family. We will miss you!
I feel like I am losing a friend. I have been reading this site since the beginning and grew up with it. You were always best of class. Your coverage of tech and the depth and quality of your analysis was unrivaled. Best of luck to you.
Thankyou Anand, its been a pleasure reading this site all these years. May all your new endeavors meet with good fortune. It's kinda weird to get a little misty reading your parting words, sniffle....good luck sir!
We're about the same age Anand and I remember very well scouring the internet in my high school youth for a tech page of any worthiness and was overjoyed at discovering yours. This site is one that I visit nearly every day and over the years, have come to appreciate and trust its reviews, enjoy and participate in the knowledge exchange on the forums, and even leave a few comments on the articles. I sincerely wish you the best in your future endeavors and will continue to visit this site. Thanks for everything.
. Ive been to reading your articles from the very beginning. This is usually the first site I load to read what's new in the tech world. You will be missed but best wishes to your new path in life.
Anand, thanks for all of the insights over the years. This is the only tech site that I've ever felt a personal connection with and a huge part of that is thanks to you. Looking forward to hearing more about what you're up to next.
I've read this site for so many years, since around 2001. Its always had some of the best, or THE best articles (even if i've bitched about some stuff but only because i expect high standards here). It's going to be weird without you Anand! I feel like i've almost grown up with you, and we're almost the same age. Shouldn't the site now be called RyanTech though? lol.
And no mention of what you will be doing now Anand? ... Well, good luck whatever it is!
Big thank you for all the great work. I'm posting this for the 1st time as a long time reader. I remember 15 years ago in college where I was studying computer engineering, a classmate told me to check out this site called anandtech. You guys really set yourselves apart from the rest. Your work is referenced quite a bit where I work and I thought 1 day might be able to meet you as part of business. Sadly I take it that that won't happen now. All the best, I look forward to finding out where you go next.
Let me get this out there first. Wow. About 15 years ago I found your site when I was in grad school. It fanned the flames of my new found love of computers. I went from a novice to one who is quite proficient with modern technology. Though things are not like they once were as we move out into the mobile computing age this site still is a wonderful resource both for it's content and for the fellow members that make up our online community.
Thanks for everything Anand and take care. I hope to read your words and insights in the future.
Anand, your article on CPU architecture during the iPhone 3GS review and The SSD Anthology has brought my understanding and passion to these field to a whole new level, and I have been following every major review article from anandtech.com ever since. YMHO, you still hold the bar on how a tech review should be written. I will miss you, and best of wishes.
As a person who has followed this site, since way back when it first came up. I can safely say I'm sorry to see you go, and you will definitely be missed.
I remember reading about things like the Abit mobo's, during the K6 and K7 days on this site, like the KT7A, KT133 and 133A. And even back before I took an interest in AMD, the slot based Pentium 2's. Also chose many a board back then based on reviews on this site. SL2YK P2 300, was the thing way back then, and I had one, first on a Shuttle Hot 440LX board, and then an Abit 440BX. All of which were reviewed on this site.
I hope even though you're leaving the site manages to remain as impartial to brand as it always has, except a few occasions depending on the writer. Which is one of the biggest reasons I've came here first for review over other sites.
I've been with the site ever since it went live with its own URL. The news and advice here has guided me in my PC builds up through and including my recent 4970K/Z97/R9 290 build. It has also guided me in my mobile purchases and in the advice I give to many friends, family members, and co-workers. Thank you, Anand, for your contribution to society though the creation and growth of anandtech.com. I wish you the best in everything that lies ahead for you!
Thank you Anand for all the wonderful coverage over the years. You've always helped expand my knowledge and this had allowed me to help others in tech areas. I wish you all the best on your future endeavors and hopefully we'll see you surface in a new, exciting adventure in the future.
Thank you very much Anand for all your hard work over the years to keep people informed about hardware choices. Thorough analyses and unbiased opinions like those on your homepage are very difficult to find.
All the best for your future work. Am sure you will succeed no matter where you go.
I've followed your site for over 15 years now, maybe even since you opened. I used it as a guide to help me build my first computers in college. I feel like I've grown up with you. All the best.
Anand, thanks for all the years of hard work, great articles and in depth reviews. Though I don't post much in the comments or the forums I've been coming to this site on a daily basis for almost as long as it's been around. Good luck in the future whatever you choose to do next.
Ryan, congratulations on the new role. I look forward to seeing how the site develops under your leadership.
Wow - I can firmly say that Anandtech was almost solely responsible for the interest in technology I have today (it steered me to Computer engineering over Aerospace!). Thank you for everything you've done and good luck in life! :D
Tanks for creating one of the best tech sites in the world, one who actually knows what what it's talking about. This site is one of the constant mind boggling IT-sites that leaves you with at feeling that you really should study harder. See you around Anand!
Didn't read all the comments, but that's not really necessary for my purposes.
Good luck, Anand.
(Didn't see any of these types of comments)
So, it happens. FINALLY, the sale of an Internet Property that we've all seen coming for a long time now. It's like the 54 square acres of farmland smack-dab in the middle of Boomtown Middle America Tract Housing that previously just "refused to sell because my father bought this land in 1852...."
I guess the offer finally had enough zeros at the back of it, eh? Don't blame you. Smart business says that "You have to know when it's time to move on to other things." That time is now, apparently. AT and the forums will be dead in the next 30 days. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's wondered how you have justified keeping the forums up and running for so long.
Best wishes for continued success. Thank you for providing the Techie Forums that've kept me going for a long time now. I will miss them come the beginning of October, when they are gone.
I think the reason you have not seen other comments along the lines of your post, is that what you wrote was ridiculously passive-aggressive, not to mention uninformed. Anand has built something here that is going to last a long time.
Also a reader from the beginning who is the same age as Anand - There sure are a lot of us:) And yup, I ended up going into the semiconductor industry..not quite sure how to thank you.
This was always my first stop every morning.. your voice will be missed, the knowledge you've shared has been invaluable to me and has had a direct effect on my life. Wishing you the best in all of your future endeavors and adventures Anand!
Thanks for creating the site, it is so far ahead of other review sites in the depth of analysis it isn't funny. Good luck with what ever you turn your hand to next.
I've hang around here for more than 10 years. I got to say that alot of thing i learned over the years come from you and your team. I sincerely thank you for all the knowledge you shared over the years.
I wish you to have the same genuine interest in what you undertake.
So sad to hear that you're leaving Anand. I've been visiting the site pretty much every day since I can remember. At least since the days I used to check Anandtech, then Thefiringsquad and sharkyextreme. Glad to see you out-lasted that lot. Anandtech is unique in their position within the industry thanks to your morals and conduct. Good luck in whatever you do.
Thanks for all your great work! AnandTech is one of the very few Tech website I constantly followed during the last 15 years! Good luck for your future challenges!
I don't know what I'll do without your insights. Good luck, you ruinous jerk :p. Really though you are by far my most trusted name in the industry and you have easily deserved your choice. Congratulations!
I am sad to hear the news but at the time, I do understand completely. I wish all of the best for you, Anand and really do appreciate all of the work you have put into the site throughout the years and all of the great content and information that you have provided. Not to mention the vast amount of information that you have educated me over the years.
I stumbled upon the site in 1999 trying to find info on motherboards when I was building my first PC. The articles impressed me both with the technical detail (I had little idea that a motherboard even did much besides connecting things and delivering electrical power) and the joyful enthusiasm in the approach. Somehow that got me coming back, the technical level of the articles keeping the connection between otherwise-forgotten courses in computer engineering and the accomplishments of modern industry, and the enthusiasm maintaining my excitement about them. Thanks for a great run, and I too look forward to the occasional perspective piece in coming years. Whatever happens, don't lose that spirit!
Dear Anand, Beyond the daily dose of tech (needless, but still OK to add, this site is all my browsers' home page for years), I never thought I should or would write so seriously here about anything as - a) the site has been so US-centric that some comment from India would never be treated worth whatever it is, mainly by the big companies (market ??), and hence the people at the site itself. b) this really comes as a shock and so probably would never have crossed the mind even in its craziest states. I take this opportunity to thank you for whatever you and 'your' (yeah, even with Ryan or someone else it will always be your) site have been to me all these years too, just like you've said through all the knowledge as well as the actual process of sharing it. Its truly beyond words. I also wish to put here my request to extend anandtech to .in as our country is taking big strides into the future, may be with all other nations, but with a decisive determined frame of mind. We have just effected a massive positive change in the overall governance of public life and that should in every manner possible be, at the very least, conducive to such attempt. I had in my small capacity as an individual tried to raise certain issues when they bothered us here but the network of manufacturers, dealers and distributors refused to pay any heed. An entity combining all these small individual voices into a major force could do the trick for a good cause to Indian consumers too, if something of that nature takes place here. Before it gets too long, let me stop here. Thanks again for all that this site has been so far and will continue to be. Umesh Raut
Thank you for the site and the reviews all these years.
I'm 38 and I've been reading you since Day 1, along with no more than 10 technical sites, but only two or three on par with anandtech.com
Great, Great, Great work from the beginning till now and as more technical reviewers come up, the site is getting even better.
(A little preference for Intel from the beginning and especially the last few years, can be forgotten due to the large performance gap between Intel and AMD CPUs, but I would like a little more criticism to Intel on bad choices or actions i.e for the packaging of CPUs after Sandy)
Sorry to see you go, but thanks for all of your work. It's hard to believe I have been checking this URL on a near-daily basis since Mendocino. Sharky's and FiringSquad fell by the wayside over the years but I knew I still had all the tech coverage I needed right here.
I am following this site for about 15 years + or - one year, and I had NEVER been disappointed. I can't say the same for other sites as old or older, as big or bigger than Anandtech.
As one of your loyal readers who has been following you from the very beginning, but never leaves a comment I just want to say a big THANK YOU. The amount of knowledge I have gained by reading your site over the years is greater than all the other tech sites i read put together.
Your passion for really trying to understand how things work is a large part of what has made this site so successful. I hope you can take that with you in whatever endeavor you are about to embark upon.
Thank you Anand for all your fantastic articles & reviews. Especially the SSD articles in the past years have been fantastic! I've been following this site for probably close to 15 years. I wish you all luck in your future endeavors!
I know already that i'm going to miss the historical background which was present in every Anand's review. This is what I'm gonna miss more. Unfortunately a critical view of the past is something very rare to find in this industry. Anand, if you write a short introduction to the computer hardware history of the past 20 years, I'm gonna buy it. :p
Not sure what else I can add to the discussion, but I've been reading Anandtech as my 'last word' in all things. Thank you for creating such a site Anand and best wishes in the future. I'll be following you. (in a non-creepy way!)
All the best, Anand. It amazed me to see the quality of reviews coming out of your site even while you were studying & graduating highschool/university. The tech / enthusiast world owes you a debt of gratitude.
Wow - I'm not going to lie... A bit of a sad day to read this. But best of luck Anand - you were an incredible writer, journalist, and yes, educator. You will be missed... But hopefully your next endeavor is something I can get addicted to as well! :)
I remember the first article I came to Anandtech for in high school, an article on goldfingers for the K6 ;) Anand and I being only 11 days apart in age, I reflect a lot on how the site has evolved over the years, and how I myself have evolved in tech. I've read\checked Anandtech\Dailytech for updates almost every day for the last 15+ years because it's always been my source for professional tech news with integrity.
Many have come and gone, I used to read HardOCP, Tom's Hardware, Storage Review, and still occasionally check Engadget, but Anandtech is everyday.
Congratulation's Anand, I hope you can keep yourself busy with something new and interesting.
I rarely post comments anywhere, but I couldn't resist posting a farewell/thank you note here. I've been noticing for the past two years an unusual amount of new faces around here, and I didn't know what to expect; I guess everything makes sense now. In any case, I've not only been an AT reader, but a big fan of yours since 02'-03'. I visit 2-3 other similar sites for hardware reviews, but whenever new hardware comes to the market, I always value more the AT version of the benchmark hands down, and that has a lot to do with you. I am deeply saddened that you are "retiring" from the site, although I am pretty sure you'll end up in a nice position at <insert here any monster IT of a company>. I hope everything works out alright for the site(unfortunately there are sites similar to AT, which didn't make it after their creator stepped down, or their quality suffered considerably) and for you personally. Good luck to any of your future endeavors and thanks for everything. You did a hell of a job and judging by the amount of comments here, you will be missed sorely by all of us.
Congratulations, Anand. I have been following you for most of this 17.5 years (I cannot say when I discovered your site, but it was near the beginning) and although I have never commented in these years, I can only admire all you work and wish you great luck in your new life. You deserve it. Best regards from Spain. @rperezan
Thanks for the years of top-quality articles, insight and analysis. Anandtech's articles have always been the gold standard for anyone seeking advice on tech, and even when there's been something to disagree with in an article, it always sits within the context that "Ahh, this article is only 10 times better than any other site's. Why isn't it 20 times better?"
When I see reviews on other tech sites I've bookmarked, I know I'm going to read Anand's first.
One of the saddest moments in the Internet for me. I have read your reviews since 1998 when I built my first 300A machine. I have always enjoyed your work. I am 32 as well, and I felt like I have grown in tech knowledge tremendously from this site.
Thanks for the great knowledge you have imparted over the years. Best of luck in your future endeavors, Anand.
Having had Anandtech as my startup page for 16+ years this is both a sad and joyfull day. I will sorely miss your articles and input to the techindustry, but i'm confident youre retireing because you have found new priorities in life, and I will allways respect that - no matter how much I will be missing your pieces. The team you have left us with is all aces, so we will cope :-)
Remember - there is more to life than a career! I know a lot of people that only realised that after their kids moved to college. What a COLLOSAL mistake.
Many thanks Anand. This has been my go to site for computer needs for as long as i recall and it never lets me down. The bar is certainly set high for Mr Smith. All the best in whatever is next in life.
I began writing about tech not much time after you, and since I discovered AnandTech in the early 2000s it became absolutely essential both my amusement, my interests, and my own job. The depth and technical insight you set as one of the pillars of AT have been differential and pivotal in my (and I guess everyone who has read AnandTech over the years) understanding of how tech has evolved over the years.
I know how difficult it is to build a strong audience and to maintain the quality of a tech site for so long, so I can't only say how proud I am of you and your team's work. You've done an amazing job throughout the years and it's really incredible how AT has been able to keep itself as a beacon of tech knowledge when other strong tech sites with far less technical depth have attracted other kind of tech users.
Congrats for that, and best of luck on your new project, whatever it is. We really owe you that tremendous debt of gratitude you mention too. Even more. And of course, AnandTech will be my number one spot when trying to get the best, more detailed, more coherent information, reviews and analysis about what's going on in tech.
All the best Anand! I am following Anandtech for the past 7 years. Thank you for teaching me everything I know about technology :) I'm gonna cry now xD
Thank you Anand and best of luck for your future endeavors. I've been a reader for 7 years now and this is one of my most respected websites. Thanks again and best of luck.
As many commenters above, I've never posted anything before on your site despite years of reading, enjoying and learning from the articles on AnandTech. It even took me about 3 years to put a face to your name. Anyway, what I wanted to say really is: THANK YOU SO MUCH for making AnandTech happen the way you did, you absolutely nailed it! From CPUs, to Motherboards, to GPUS, to SSDs, to Mobile Devices, I've soaked in every single article and always finished reading with a little more knowledge on the topic, so don't say you can never repay us for our support because in my opinion you already did. I wish you all the best for your future endeavors and hope that you will remain in service to in the tech-world!
I started reading Anandtech when i was building my first PC in 2009. That machine still works and I read Anandtech articles first for any subject ,ever since. You have to respect the 'unbiased' in which the articles are posted with. #respect All the best Ahead!!
Thank you Anand. I was with you since the start and watch almost all the progress over the years. Your insight has surely been helpful to many in understanding the intricacies of PC technology and the industry as a whole. Yes, the time for change has always been a good one. Never too late and always a welcome change in life. I hope you find what that has in store for you. It is the journey that is most interest so it goes. Best of Luck and blessings ....
Don't know what you're thinking Anand - In 3 months you'll realise you're bored and be back straight in the thick of it - put simply it's in your veins, and you'll never be able to stay away :p
Regardless, I'll just view this as a sabbatical, and in the meantime, have a wail of a time!
Thank you for all your hard work! Your informed and scientific approach to your writing and reviews has been immensely influential on my own perspectives of the industry. AnandTech's content is second to none.
And I am happy to say that, I too, believe your standards have been reinforced by your staff; I will not be going anywhere.
Good luck in all of your future endeavours. Please don't drop off the radar entirely!
Thanks Anand, yours was the first objective site I came across when making forays into the arena of tech purchases. I hope that whatever else you choose to take up will be just as fruitful, if not more so. God bless!
Thank you for the many great years! And to all of the AT staff for their continuing work with current and upcoming new tech.
I have read the site for what seems like forever, at least back near the beginning. Always been one of my daily go to links for news, updates and curious things about the PC and technology.
I remember the early articles, and how it seemed like a personal posting. Easy to connect to your writing, and think about the same topics as you were "experimenting" with updates and configurations. Good stuff, and great memories.
Very best of luck in your next efforts! And thanks for your pioneer work to make this interesting place to visit!
Anandtech without Anand? Unthinkable. I've been around here since the days of Voodoo (1) 1996-1997 and a forum member since 2001 or so. I guess it's time to move to other hangouts now. :-/ Are you going to change the name of the site? Thanks for all the years man, it's been a blast. Peace out.
I've been reading every single line that you have written and published here for over 10 years.
I think during the time, I have learned more from you than from all my Uni professors and work colleagues combined. Both in terms of tech, and in terms of understanding journalism and tech publishing.
It is a sad day for me to be losing such a source, but of course I understand why you are doing this.
Your place will be greatly missed here, and I hope that you still enlighten us from time to time with your knowledge and insight.
So long Anand! I remember my first foray to internet tech sites in 1998/1999 during the celeron 300a oc to 450 craze. I gravtited here and to Toms. I don't know when but somewhere along the way I stopped checking Toms and started coming here almost exclusively, for the objective and in depth analysis you provided and still provide in a diverse number of tech subjects.
The site you've built is my #1 source for computer-tech info in the internet. The staff you've built over the years is top notch, and will continue on. This business is tough as hell, and being in it for 18 years is nearly unheard of. Best of luck in your next adventures!
Dear Anand, let me wish you best of luck, whatever goal you decide to pursue in the future. I have been an avid reader of Anandtech literally from the very beginning, going back to the good old days of the AMD K6 in early -97. And I have kept on going back because this site has always been a hallmark of quality, be it in writing, testing or any other aspect. You did well for a scrawny fourteen year old kid and I salute you, and I salute the great legacy you leave behind.
Like many here, I've been reading stuff on this site for years. Thank you doesn't cut it, but it'll have to do. Bless you, and thanks for the education!
Dear Anand, you are a raw model to me, you articles have a certain style and depth that is unmistakable, I've really enjoyed reading them in the last 15 years - I have not found yet anything similar. Actually anandtech.com is the first page in my browser that opens when I want to read some news. I wish you the best for your new activities, whatever they may be, and let's hear from you!
Like many, I found the site in 1998/1999 during my junior/senior year of high school. I've built eight PC's with parts based on the reviews and articles you and your other writers have done throughout all these years. You've been my home page every day I start "work", spending more time here than on any news website
Good luck and I welcome with open arms the continuation of this great website with the next generation!
I started reading your articles back in 2006 (made an account only recently though). And to this day it's my favorite site on the internet, I find it one of the most professional and reliable sites out there, and I must say I agree with you about the anandtech staff, very knowledgeable, professional, and outstanding writing. I hope to see you change your mind and come back to right articles here, but no pressure... I wish you good luck at whatever it is you plan to do with your future!
Thank you Anand for putting up Anandtech. It's my institution since Y2000, and it helped me a lot both personal and professional. Nobody does it better.
I don't know if Anandtech would ever be the same without you. I just wished you stay on.
This feels like Steve Jobs leaving Apple ;-) I hope anandtech will continue to deliver the quality articles it has in the past and not fall victim to commercialism like so many other sites.
Thanks for all the hard work over the years. You brought a scientific approach to testing which is extremely rare. I wish you all the best on your next endeavor, whatever that may be.
One more thing: I did notice the independent viewpoint anandtech.com has, sometimes kicking the a** of a vendor or product, which not many sites has the guts to do. This created even more respect towards you, Anand. Your philosophy: quality over marketing/income did shine through your articles, and gave a shiny example of how tech reviews should be done. Kudos.
2 weeks ago i read your K6-Review from 1997. Again after 1997. It was just for fun. The battle of CPUs were much more interesting back then... Intel vs AMD vs Cyrix. The battle of review-sites as well: Anand vs. Tom. vs. another site whose name i cant remember anymore ;-)
Thanks for all the fantastic work you have done Anand. You will continue to make your parents proud for sure. As someone who admires your website and is also close to you in age, I think you have done very well for yourself and deserve to be complimented on it. Hopefully the name of your business will not change and I hope that we will still see you around in the tech world. With that said, I wish you well with your future endeavours.
Thank you so much Anand for creating this site and for all your work over the years. I think I've been reading this site since the early 2000's. There's simply no other tech site on the internet that I trust so much or respect more. I wish you the very best in your future endeavors. Nick
Good luck, Anand! We're the same age, and I've been reading since I was 16. I specifically remember the redesign that debuted with the launch of the K6-2... or maybe it was the K6-3; it was a long time ago. Thank you for all of your hard work and wonderful writing over the years. I have no doubts that the transition will go smoothly, but you'll still be missed.
I've followed this site for years and will continue to do so. You created one hell of a site and I wish you nothing but the best on your future endeavors. To the future editor please don't change anything.
While we never met each-other, in a way we grew up together. I am happy that you are moving on to the next stage in life, but at the same time I feel a loss. Thank you for always maintaining your integrity, even as other sites fell from grace.
Ordinarily, I'd have taken this news like a death in the family... but I trust you've left the site in good hands.
I have been reading this site everyday, since, well, years! And I thank you for it.
People called me a nerd last night in the club, when a smartphone discussion was in progress, little do they know the knowledge is mostly given from you guys! I just smiled and said "yes, I am a nerd"...
Thank you Anand. Your work is a great inspiration, and I am sure Ryan and the rest of Anand will keep up the good work you started. Anand will continue to be on my bookmark list.
I remember when Sharky and Voodoo Extreme were around, big in their day, and I think it's amazing you've done so well as you have, maintaining some semblance of yourself in the process. Up until you "discovered" Apple products, you were an incredible reviewer of enthusiast technology and upgrades, a reliable source of information. Even now, there are reviewers you've hired that are incredible writers in their own right.
By chance, are you going to work for AMD? Given AMD's hiring habits of late and Anandtech's close relationship to AMD, it wouldn't shock me.
Like many on this website my work has nothing to do with the computer industry but my interest in it started around the time you started your website. It has been the reason I've followed the industry and taken an interest to learn about the technology behind it.
In addition to how well you put across complex ideas it has been a pleasure to watch how you've run the website with passion and integrity. Thank you for all of this.
I remember finding your site around 1999 or so. I didn't create a forum account until much later. I am 33 myself, and I grew up with you in Tech. Though you and your team are far more knowledgeable than myself. I owe the majority of what I know to Anandtech, and the Anandtech Forums. I thank you and you will be missed. I am also sure that whatever venture you find yourself pursuing, you will enjoy it, and it will be successful. O7
Wow - what a surprise! First, a heart felt thanks from an old (> twice your age) EE who spent his entire career (at least from '81) in PC's and computer technology. Your reviews/comparisons were an absolute God-sent present to those who had neither the time or equipment to do them or to research trends/future products. Thank you! Second, don't retire and count your money. You are far too talented to not share your knowledge and skills. IF you haven't already, find a NEW challenge and devote the same energy/compassion to it as you have with AnandTech and I'll bet you'll be far happier. Retirement is for old guys like me - not you young folks...
Anandtech has been my most cherished guide to new technology almost since its inception. Thank you Anand for teaching me more about tech than anyone else. I wish you the best in whatever you choose to do next.
Thanks for all the great articles over the years Anand. I can't tell you how much I've learned from reading them and also putting much of the information to use in my personal life and the many PCs I've built over the years. Continued success to you and all the people with whom you work.
Thank you for all the effort and incite since 2001 when i started reading your site, I'm both sad and glad your moving on and i wish you luck or rest on anything you pursue from here on out.
I found this site after the move from Geocities and have been a regular reader since. Yes, the writing improved and the scope of coverage really expanded, but the approach to reviews, news and trends made this one of the three or four sites that I keep referring to for general tech information, knowledgeable answers to my questions and for the camaraderie of the community, contentious as it might sometimes be. Good luck and best wishes in whatever you choose to do now and in the future, Anand, and thank you for all this site represents!
Thank you Anand. I will miss your insight and great writing. I can understand wanting a change after working so hard on something for so long though. Good luck!
I'm very sad to hear the news that you're leaving the site, but I'm happy that you are pursuing whatever your next goal is. I've been an avid reader here for maybe a decade or so, and believe this to be one of the websites on the internet. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge and passion on the site that are extremely rare, not just on tech sites but all sites.
Your reviews were the best I've ever read, such a wonderful amount of in depth knowledge and detail but still concise and approachable for the average reader. You are a tremendous teacher not only in that you communicate so much information, but do so in an intriguing and entertaining way.
Thank you!
PS- Pleeeeeease stick around and do the iPhone 6 review!!!
Thank you, thank you, tank you! You really made a difference. Your site is one of the best thing out there. But you already know that. I will always be grateful to you. Thank you.
During the last CES (2014), I got he opportunity to see you and Brian while you were recording the Mobile Show at the Intel booth. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7665/anandtech-mobil... There was a guy standing next to me, which used to be a former writer at AT and we were talking about Anand and truly how great he is. I told him that for me, Anand is a legend (and a live one at the age of 32) ! not many can say that about themselves. Anandtech has been my #1 tech site for as long as I can remember, when I truly wanted all the detailed tech material that no one else in the this industry can seem to provide, at least not in the AT style. Anand, I know that you are the main reason for that and it's why a lot of the reviews and articles here have been both incredibly interesting and even inspiring: to dig deeper and to push our knowledge further.
You will be surely missed Anand, good luck in your new course in life, whatever it may be. :)
Thank you for the work that you have put into this site. As someone who was self-taught in computers, most of what I have learned came from here. Your vision for this site was "spot on" in providing the kind of useful information from which enthusiasts and causal readers could both profit. I particularly liked the fact that you wanted to provide unbiased information and allow the readers to make their own judgments. Good luck in your future plans.
Anand, it's been a pleasure reading your extremely intelligent, thorough, and nuanced articles throughout the years. Your excellent writing and clear and fun explanations went a long way toward teaching me about the world of tech, and fostering a lifelong fascination and now career. I wish you the best of luck with wherever life takes you next! Thank you again.
No pandering, no click-bait and over-promising headlines a clean and structured appearance, level headed approach and respectful attitude towards the readership. Big detailed analysis instead of infotainment, rumor-mill and distraction. A useful comparison tool with Bench. I really hope that Anand's success will continue and inspire successful imitators. Of course there are always ways to improve testing and analysis of what seems to be an almost infinitely complex subject, I hope that the new AT will still strive to advance testing and streamline the presentation of results, with more meta and statistical analysis. Considering just how much the press depends on the industry and how difficult the position of tech sites really is, what we've got on page and between the lines is not bad, not bad at all. It's truly a shame that tech-reporting requires so much traveling.
I just wish to echo many of the comments here and thank you for the years of good work you put into this site. It's one of only a handful that I turn my add-blocker off for! I'm sure you won't disappear from the tech world - but I'm super intrigued about what next. Will watch with interest for news :)
Wow. Well Anand, I have been following you for all that time and I am sad to see you go. I am happy for you that you are moving on and exploring new opportunities.
I remember the day I found Anandtech and I have been reading ever since, nearly every week.
Thanks for making such a great site and good luck!
Oh wow.. umm your only 32??? I'd have thought you were quite a bit older than that Anand. (not based on appearance btw..I simply never really paid attention on that front but I see it now) All the best to you in your future endeavors and thanks for making this a place that sits atop my bookmarks thru most of the years that I've been surfing the net.
Thanks Anand - your quality and integrity have made this site a benchmark for good journalism. Always my reference site for all things IT, and I am sure the team will maintain the culture you established. Good luck with your future endeavors.
I've been with you from the beginning Anand. Thank you for all the hard work you've done, I've learned so much from the articles and from the forum community that sprouted up alongside the main site. Good luck in whatever it is you plan to do next.
Sad to see you go... I've visited Anandtech for the first time around 2003 while I was looking for reviews for CPUs and MBs for my custom PC. The reviews found here were crucial in the purchase of my first PC, my first built ever actually. Since that day I nearly visited Anandtech every day. Thank you for Anand and again is sad to see you go. God bless
What a pity you never wrote that MacBook Pro late 2013 13" -review :) But anyway, thanks for everything! I've read this site for more than 15 years and it really has been a very valuable source for well written information. I hope this will not change! Good luck with all future challenges!
I have been a reader since almost the beginning and will greatly miss you here. Do keep us posted when you can on what you end up doing in life. Take care and God bless.
Thank you Anand for all your hard work over the years. You set new standards for SSD reviews and mobile devices and that is why I visited the site daily for the past 10 years. All the best in whatever your new endeavors are and don't be afraid to write a guest editorial if there is something on your mind.
You will always be that "wiz kid" on the internet to us. In my minds eye I still see you as that young kid talking about computers so many years ago. Bless you and thank you.
Didn't see this coming but wow. Been following since 2012 and your site has become a touchstone for my opinions in tech. Thankyou for all your hard work and good luck into the future.
A big thankyou for all your efforts over the years. Anandtech has always been my goto site with new tech announcements due to your superb coverage. All the best for your future endeavours.
Been reading since 1999, I still remember using your review to pickup an AOpen AX6BC for my Intel 400 Celeron. I knew this day was coming, since in the forum you had mention it, some years back. Sad day but it seems like there is a good staff to carry it along. Though I don't look forward to the day when the website is sold.
Sad day, Whish you the best luck Anand in your social life and career. The thing which surprised me most, that after all the years and hours spent over Anandtech website, I discover that you're just two years more older than me. I mean, that should push me forward and motivate me to learn more, to be and think better over this life.
I really hate the good byes, and looking forward to see an article from you over here someday, keep in touch with us all.
Lastly, thanks very much for you and the website commenters, I started learning my basic English from reading the articles and comments all over the college years.
Man, I can't tell you how (perhaps surprisingly) sad that makes me. Like many others I've been coming here almost since you started and have come to rely on you both as my primary reference and bringer of truth and justice to the PC hardware business. Those are indeed big shoes to fill and the editorial team sure have their work cut out for them. They're not quite there yet. hope you'll have the time to continue guiding them. However, I fully support your decision - you've already given so much more than could be expected to both the community and the industry. The end of an era, the last individualistic holdout in an era of glossy filler material and "reviews" consisting of little more than unboxings and spec listings. Or perhaps the next Anand is already out there somewhere waiting to be found. Anyway, the best of luck in your future endeavors!
Holy cow, has it been that long? I started reading the site in early '98 when I was in intern @ IBM and am now feeling incredibly old. :( Thanks for the all of the hard work on the site and the creation of the AT community to which many of us belong. Best of luck to you in the future!
Thanks for all the great articles, Anand, and for making this feel like a classroom with a charismatic teacher you can't wait to see in the next lesson. Your reviews, especially of Apple gadgets, will be sorely missed. I still find your new mobile coverage being not really up to the high standard that you've established, but I'm hoping this would change soon. Best wishes!
Thank you so much for everything you've done for us and the industry, Anand! As a long-term reader I almost feel like I should say 'my friend', although we have never met :)
Best of luck in your future endeavors. I've been following Anandtech since 1999 and have always enjoyed reading the reviews and articles. You'll be missed!
I only found AT about 10 years ago... I got sick of the astroturfing on TH and looked around for something else, something better...
I visit the site two or three times a week, unless I'm looking for an upgrade or a new build and then I visit every day, reading old articles and reviews and checking out Bench. I haven't made a hardware purchase without checking first on AT since my AGP 7600.
I've followed Anandtech since the very beginning (literally, since I was 12). I am 30 and grew up in a rural area with very few "geeks" to interact with and Anandtech had a profound influence on my interests in technology. I used the information on this site to build my first computer, to help my friends and family with their devices, and to become the all around tech support guru that they rely on. I have never been active on the forums or in comments, but I really want to thank you, Anand, for all you have contributed. I wish you the best of luck. Thank you to all of Anandtech for awesome work over the years. Congrats to Ryan Smith, I can't think of a better person to take over and I look forward to the future of Anandtech.
i thought you were like 47, enjoy your much needed rest man, and 2 the new overlords start including us international guys in yr contest, its a big world out there cheerz
Hey Anand thanks for all the great articles that I learned so much from. Your site was always my tech bible and will always be. Well miss you, take care.
I have been a regular visitor to this website since I was 14. As a young boy, I would look forward to reading your deeply analytical articles on new technologies like new CPU architectures or SSDs. I will miss seeing your name at the top of the page but like you said, you have left the website in good hands. I remember early on when you first started letting others write the main articles, I could tell that it was Anand's writing. Halfway through the first page, I would quickly scroll to the top and see that Ananad's name wasn't there. At first I was disappointed but with time, the new writers have achieved the same quality if not better that Anandtech always strives for. Anand, you will be missed and I wish you all the best in your bright future!
Dear Anand, I think you are awesome, I think your website is awesome, and I think your reviews are awesome. I also think that at 32, moving on to a new challenge is probably right. I am 40 and I know well that these 20 years from 30 to 50 will dictate how well we live our retirement so we must seek the place where we add the most value and are challenged the most. I am glad Anandtech is staying. Cesar
I've been reading you since the beginning. I'm also very close in age to you (I'm a little older :) ). Your site and the early days of Tom's Hardware sent me off on a journey of building my own computer, installing the first generation of 3D graphics cards, and expanding beyond programming into electrical engineering. I now work in industry at a company whose products you've reviewed.
I want you to know that your site has always been the best (particularly the articles you authored). When other sites started to cater specifically to Intel or AMD crowds, I could count on your articles to be honest assessments. I think you're also picking a good time to try something new -- the componentized PC industry appears to be slowing, and whether it's internet software or deeply integrated computers like phones or wearables, the DIY days of computing are slowly fading. I hope rather than completely retiring, you will apply your skills in the tech industry where you can have even greater impact.
Email me if you are interested in an introduction into a big industry player who you probably haven't heard of and isn't likely to be commoditized anytime soon. :)
Best of luck with whatever the future holds for you.
Unlike other sites, after reading one of your articles, it's been very rare to be left asking that frustrating question 'but why?'. You've set a very high standard of journalistic honesty and integrity for your remaining staff to follow. And we all benefit from your legacy. Reading your enjoyable, informative, evidence-based articles has benefited my career in so many ways. All the best for your well deserved retirement... but selfishly, hoping you are just taking long service leave. Thank you Anand.
Thank you for everything over the years. I haven't visited in a long time but remember this site fondly. Well deserved. Good luck in all of your future endeavors.
Been with you since the beginning. What a ride! Watched as the site changed and grew. I always loved your transparency about the hardware side of things that runs your site. Beyond me, but highly interesting.
I will miss you. But as you say, the people who work and write in their specialties are all awesome. The very best on your forward adventures. Nicely played Anand, very nicely played. Dave
If its true you are starting at Apple, congratulations!!! I can't think of anyone more deserving of a position there than you and you will without a doubt quickly become their greatest asset!
Best wishes, Anand! I've been reading Anandtech, pretty much every day, since 1998. It has always been my goto Tech site, and will be for the future. Not to mention I've bought/sold a ton of stuff over the years in the forums. I appreciate all the hard work put into the site over the years - thanks and best of luck in the future.
I predate you by quite a few years (1st computer in 1983) and only wrote a couple of articles due to a different career but I commend you for always following whatever passion you have in your heart. It was always obvious to anyone reading your site that you put your all into everything you did and I pray you find the same satisfaction with your next stage in life (you are still young enough to be my son) that you did with this one. Best of luck.
Been here since the beginning and loved every minute of it! Loved watching the computer industry grow and go through so many changes and you and your site covering it. I learned an awful lot here and plan to learn more still! Sorry to see you go Anand, but wish you the best of luck and continuing success in your life and all future endeavors! Thank you Anand!!
Anand I've been reading Anandtech since 1999 and I can say it has played a pivotal role in my knowledge and interest in computing, in my career and my reading of pretty much every form of journalism - yours is the standard to which almost none can be held.
You have greatly influenced the whole industry of tech journalism, significantly raising the bar for quality, detail, transparency and honesty - yours has been the standard against which great tech journalism is measured. You have inspired countless enthusiasts around the world and have played no small part in the careers of thousands, fuelling their interest and enthusiasm for computing that has led many on to careers in tech. I would even say the depth of writing you are known for has helped to shape not just the industry of tech journalism, but of the broader 'product review' category generally through the ubiquitous reach of online journalism.
Thank you and goodbye, Anand; you will be sorely missed. May the rest of your life be filled with all the happiness and success you could desire.
Thank you for everything Anand. I assembled and configured my first PC in 1997 and have been reading your articles ever since. I am sure you will succeed in anything you do with your mindset and view of the computing world. I have always enjoyed reading anything you have published and I think that you have a good crew at the helm to ensure that I keep coming here even though you will be gone. I hope that you keep us informed about what you are doing in the future if you can. As always, I am eager to find out what Anand is interested in currently and what he will write about next!
Im in absolute awe of your work Anand. Been following you since at least 98. It was only recently on your 30th birthday i got to know you were same age as me! In a tech world full of subjective and manufacturer fueled shallow description you were always a breath of fresh air. Wish you all the best and hope Anandtech will continue at the high level you set.
I have been reading your articles for over 10 years. There really no other site I trust and enjoy more than your Anand. Thank you for your educated and non biased reviews that have helped my purchases during this time, even for people like myself in Australia on the other side of the world. Good luck with everything! :)
Can't believe it's 17 years already. I dived into the world of computing in 97-98 so I have pretty much followed you from the beginning. I learnt much from the site over the years and really appreciated what you have done.
Congrats Anand. Been reading your site since the original PPro article (Man I'm old!). He's getting out at the right time as we've stagnated in CPU, GPU, and memory. Only SOCs & SSDs have been improving like the old days....
Thank you for the decade plus that a I've spent visiting your site (sometimes more often than others). You were an asset to the community, and I will miss your input and insight. Good luck!
I've been coming to the site since the k6 days. So much nostalgia when I think back, brings a grin to my face. This is the last site to still be around in its true form from those days. I'm sure it will continue without you but, you will be missed. Best of luck in your future, Hope you do stop by to say hello every so often.
Thank YOU Anand for providing content of a quality that made it the best hardware review/analysis site on the internet. Maybe even the best site period (and of course as far as I'm aware of. I'm aware of quite a lot though, my bookmark page for computer and related sites is quite long, stretching from the top of my 2560x1440 display to the bottom :) .)
What you have built here is a unique resource in the tech world. Honest and in-depth. You have made a mark with this site and I have no doubt that the staff you have developed will carry on the legacy. Thank you and best of luck in your new endeavors.
Congrats Anand for the new role in Apple, and I hope the new challenges will keep you busy. Please don't stop writing on Tech, we all enjoy your analysis here. And I hope to see how you would improve Apple in the future for greater humanity and technology.
Thank you for everything Anand. It was a true pleasure reading your work. I would have to say I learned more about the intricacies of hardware from your articles than any online or offline source.
I'll miss your your in-depth articles filled with wisdom to the core Anand. When I read your articles I always used to be in awe thinking like I'd consider myself successful if I could write like you etc. Thank you for all the articles, I'd vow to go through them all over again one more time. Good luck and be happy always! P.S. If ever I come to US, and you happen to be free, I wanna meet you and thank you in person .
Anand, I cannot thank you and your staff enough for the valuable knowledge that I have accrued from this site over the years. Back in '05 I was just a freshman in High School. I pretty much knew nothing about the in's and outs of computers and their components. I spent hours and hours pouring over all the great articles and reviews on this site. It lit a tech fire in me that continues to this day as I am not only a consumer but a professional within the industry. Without a doubt, millions have been intrigued.
This is easily one of the best sites available, which provides an extensive and thorough review of any product you could find. Kudos to your work dear Anand. I sincerely hope Ryan could take up the torch and bring your child "AnandTech" to further glory.
I remember it was year 1999 and i was looking for motherboard which would allow to overclock celeron 300A processor. Anandtech was the source where i got my info (abit BH6, baby!), and i've been a reader ever since. Than you Anand, and good luck!
Salute Anand!!!! Really crafted a tech journalism career when it was non-existent Remembering my teen days when i started my pc business as well assembling P3-P4 and only valuable source of information i could gather anywhere was Anandtech. Motherboard, Chip level repairing....was my life and Anandtech was my soul....Once With processor advancement and so much tech growth...Ur site has really kept pace.
But always wondered how did u learn so much about microprocessors...So in depth from 8085 to Celeron to Pentium to Mobile processors, ARM and so many things in between... You rock BOSS!!!
Indisputable king of tech publishing at just 32... Apple is really gonna have some gem reviews and eager to know your new position:)
I grew up leafing through the pages of PC World, Byte and other computer magazines in the 70s and 80s, graduated to bulletin boards and Compuserve, and then came the World Wide Web. For me, this was too slow to do much in the way of surfing until around 1996 or so, and it can't have been long after that that I came across Anandtech.
Those were exciting times, and you were a pioneer of what became possible in that new forum for communication and the dissemination of ideas.
Thanks for working so hard on the reviews. Your determination to find objective ways to differentiate between competing products made this site a reference point for consumers across the World, and was a benign influence on the whole PC and, later, mobile technology industries.
In keeping with your philosophical approach to criticism, I will add that the forums seem to have died a little sinced the late 90s, early 2000s period, but perhaps this was a consequence of wider choice across the internet (social media), and the maturity or decline of the traditional PC industry and the Wintel platform.
This and Tom's Hardware were the two site I joined when I started to build my own computers. Later on I depended on this site more than other sites. Wish you good luck on your future, Anand.
Good luck Anand! I have been a religious follower of this site for the past 10 years... thanks for the countless reviews and indepth insights! Wish you all the best in your future endeavors! :)
Come on Anand, you are going to Apple. Everybody knows. I must say i really enjoyed your writings in the past, especially about GPUs. The best articles in the web. But in the last few years you've become too Apple oriented. I won't miss you.
Thanks Anand, I learned a lot from you and all of Anantech Team, hope the best for all of you, it's time to see and keep an eye to the new anandtech :)
Thanks Anand for all your great work. Anandtech has been part of my every day surfing for many years. I feel a bit sad (first Jon Hannibal Stokes, now you), but I keep my fingers crossed for your new plans.
Hi Anand, I'm a reader of this site since 2000 and boy have I learned many things. At the beginnings I used to go in web-cafes and download articles (print/save) on floppies to read at my leisure at home where I had no internet back in those days. Back in the 2000's the knowledge gathered on your site allowed me to build a nice computer-building business which made me some coins during college and now a few years later I can say I'm still a bit of a computer guru for friends and family. All this I owe to anandtech.com and other couple of sites that share free information - I'm glad you found pleasure and financial success in this adventure and wish you good luck in whatever you plan to do next.
I still remember in 2005 when I noticed for the first time the reference to acceleration of MPEG-4 video encoding/decoding in the description of the ATI radeon x700. I spent a couple of weeks discussing what that means at an unofficial ATI forum, at no avail. Before giving up, I wrote to Anand requesting information regarding video acceleration on GPUs. No reply, and I thought at least I gave it a shot.
A couple of months later, Anand wrote for the first time on the web (AFAIK) an amazing article about GPU-accelerated video encoding, a concept no one explored before at any depth, and later exclusively got a beta tool for video encoding from ATI, not released previously anywhere.
I still remember the best tech-oriented bed story for geeks, the behind-the-scenes success story of the AMD 4000HD series (The RV770 Story). And I still hope for another, equally exciting bed story.
Anand, you have no idea how much respect I have for you. I'm sad that you are leaving. With that said, I am happy that you decided to do whatever makes you happy, and I wish you the best of luck in your future.
We still hope to see you here on anandtech from time to time :)
Thank you, Anand! Your site was one that I used way back in the day to feed my budding interest in building my own computer, what, with my Packard-Bell 33mhz 486sx system not able to keep up with the newer versions of Doom! Best to you in your future endeavors!
I started following the site from 2008-09 but never had a account with AT until till today.!! Having said that, Just to wish you luck Anand, I have created a account with AT and Here it is " All the best for your future endeavors". I have learned so much from your work.!!
Thank you Anand! It has been amazing reading your articles for the past years! I too started reading this site at 15!! Thanks again for the super interesting articles!
Thank you. This is my reference tech site and I just hope, it continues to be so thorough and impartial and sincere, as most of other sites took over wannabe tech writers that make their living by click baites. There will allways be critics, but I hope this site remains the way it is now and has ben in spirit and in reviews. Tecnically sound, honest and sincere.
I hadn't created an account for commenting until now, but I had to now.
Best of luck for the future. I've been reading the site since the first year and I definitely considered your site the best on the internet on the content that you cover. I wish you all the best for the future and am sure that we'll keep having great content from Ryan, Ian and the other guys. Keep up the good work!
This was the first article I ever read on your site and it convinced me to buy the 64MB Asus card over anything else. I've been hooked ever since. Thank you for the wonderful tech coverage all these years. God bless and good luck!
Please replace Tim Cook. He has no f-ing idea what he's doing. If that was Steve Jobs best pick no wonder they need your help. Those people are just milking Steve Job ideas into oblivion. Give those fools some direction. Maybe in the future I could be using a product you dreamed of and I would be proud to call you CEO.
Anand- thanks for all the great review over the years. I don't always agree with the conclusions, and the tests are too Windows specific for my taste, but they are probably the most in-depth hardware reviews on the net and I both benefited from them and enjoyed reading them. Good luck with your next endeavour.
This site has been, for a long time, my first port of call for reliable technology information. Even where other sites have appeared handling certain specific topics more thoroughly - graphics cards, for instance, or acoustics - Anandtech has always managed to provide a generalist overview with some seriously heavy insights of its own into topics such as CPU design. The transition to being the first and best site providing a proper, weighty insight into mobile technology happened so seamlessly that I barely noticed it happen. I remain extremely appreciative for it.
So, thank you, Anand. Thank you for bringing us this site, nurturing it, and sending it off out into the world to continue your work.
Anand Best of luck. I have been reading the site since the its inception in 1997, and have probably read over 90% of the articles. You will be missed. Thank you for years of informative reporting.
Been reading the site in 1999, you will be missed Anand. Thank you for all the memories and all the hardwork. This is kinda like bill gates leaving microsoft still around but will never be the same without you.
Anand - I want to briefly congratulate you on your excellent writing and stewardship of AnandTech. Others here have far more profound stories and thanks to share on that front.
What I want to say regards your future: as a lover of tech, a humble investor in Apple, and most importantly from one person to another, I want to congratulate you on your next adventure. I hope they are wise enough to utilize your talents to their fullest, to challenge you greatly, and in turn have you contribute as much as possible to the improvement of their products and services, which many of us take great pleasure in exploring. I hope that is your guidepost. The very best of luck to you.
Your video review of Apple's Thunderbolt Display was what got me reallly interested in tech. It was thoughtful, you were so well spoken, and your combination of explanation and marvel was infectious.
Congrats on 17 years, good luck on your future endeavors!
Thanks for basically teaching me most of what I know about tech, especially PCs. It has and continues to help me tremendously in my (non-tech) job and has been lots of fun for me as a novice tech hobbyist. Good luck, have lots of fun in your new endeavors and hey....let's be careful out there.
Thank you SO much for getting all this going. I hope you have an excellent time in your new venture. (I know you will do well). Your legacy here is awesome. !!
I wonder why he didn't just say "I'm going to work for Apple"? In any event, I hate to see him go. They must have made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
I've been reading Anand since day 1 and a forum member for over 15 years. I still remember watching his little video reviews of the AMD K6 while I was working at a small computer store in Arizona. He was great at emails back them and over the years I've felt like we grew up together. Best of luck old friend!
I came to AT pretty late, around the time you posted the "definitive" SSD backgrounders, which is probably a big loss for me: Looks like you could have filled the gap that BYTE left.
I'm not so sure I like the idea of you going to Apple: Last "Apple" I ever owned was a Apple ][ clone, because it was the perfect DIY computer.
For a techie there is nothing in an Apple unless you get to build them (which is what you'll get to do now ;-)
Problem I see there, though, that there is no such thin as a perfect computer: There is only a perfect computer for any given use case.
I guess the biggest problem with your new job will be having to compromise all the time: Having to build a rather low fixed number of compromises (for the largest possible customer base), which will always leave you yearning for the truly perfect device.
1) All CE is perfect for a given use case. You building your own "PC" is for your specific use case.
2) How exactly do you build your own notebook, tablet, smartphone, and (perhaps) wearables? Sure, it's technically possible, but it's unrealistic to think that DIYers aren't buying these complete products from the vendor of their choice.
Wow from 14 to 31 a lot has changed for you. I want you to well in your next line of work. I want to thank you for the website here. You have helped me to stay current in the PC/Mac world for years. The best of luck and thanks again.
Anand thank you for your incredible work over the years. I've been reading it for many, many years and I've always counted on you and your staff to produce consistently great content. I don't know many sites that have the in depth reviews you've produced over the years. Good luck to you in the future!
Anand, you have been a part of my life for the last 12 years and you will be sorely missed! Good luck with all your future endeavors!! You have my support!
I have been a passionate reader since I first found your site in my early teen years (~10 yrs ago). The knowledge, insight and depth found in most of the articles on this site are what first drew me to the professional computing field, and now into my computer engineering degree. Often I find my classes covering material that I've read here - which I take as a sign that I'm on the right path :)
Thank you for being an inspiration to fledgling techies everywhere! Keep the articles flowing!!
This is an odd coincidence. This month we are closing our cybercafe (gate58.dk), we opened 19 march 1997. I have been using this site in all those years, to learn about new tech, and made me able to choose the right tech for our place. Good luck Anand, and thanks.. really! I never had an account here, but thanks to all you guys for your great comments, very insightful ;) This is an end to an era!
Wow, I've been coming here for reviews and advice since I built my first computer. Thanks for all the help, good luck to you. I will continue to frequent the site and support the ongoing staff.
whoa, that's some big news! Good Luck in your new projects, Anand! I am the same age as you (didn't know that) and also grew up in the middle of all those IT revolutions. I've been a reader over here for over 10 years, and will continue to do so.
Good Luck Anand , Thanks for all the knowledge and all that info's you shared ,i just show this to my 9 years old daughter ,to have it as an example to her life .. Thanks again
Yet Anand didnt mention in his goodbye letter that he is now working for Apple. I guess that being Apple-centric with his reviews all these years, finally paid off :-/ Pfft.
Anand, I am just one of the many anonymous readers that hardly ever writes something. I just wanted to say a huge "Thank you!" for all what you've done. All the best for your future!
Thank you Anand, for your great work, tremendous commitment over the years to bringing some of the finest Tech articles on the web. The first place to go for the definitive review, guidance, latest hardware and new chip architecture - just awesome. Best of luck with your future endeavors.
Thank you for the many, many years of solid tech journalism. Since I first discovered AnandTech years ago it has been and remains a fantastic resource with great integrity - a true rarity in this space.
While I'm sure Ryan and the team are more than qualified to keep the bar high, it's a little sad to know that we won't be seeing your name in the byline anymore.
Has it really been 18 years? Wow, I feel really old all of a sudden! I've been a loyal reader of Anandtech since the very early days in the late 90's and watched the site grow into THE best site on the net for detailed PC hardware reviews and analysis. To say I will miss your amazing writing is an understatement Anand. I wish you all the best with your future endeavours.
Congratulations Anand! I've been reading your blog since the beginning when you were literally a kid. The reviews were always top notch, to the point, and unbiased. Good luck on the path you have chosen.
This is a sad day for us. Your articles and knowledge literally taught me enough over the years that I was able to run my own company for almost a decade. I too decided to move on after that, but I continue to follow the industry, and build custom machines for family and friend every now and then.
So thank you. I am sure that there are thousands of us out here that could say you helped them in so many ways too.
It will not be the same without you. And that is what makes this a sad day.
Thanks for all the hard work you've done for us over the years. It feels like just a few years ago that I found your website and tried to find out which 440BX motherboard to buy (ended up with Abit BH6) for my Pentium II.
Now I was looking forward to reading about the inner workings of A8 next week or in the coming months (and I hated mobile until we got good smartphones). I guess that'll have to wait. I really really hope someone is able to pick up the torch on that one :-)
Anyway, thanks once again. I wish you the very best at Apple and to your future. There is quite literally no one as thorough, hard working and a good a writer as you are out there in tech journalism today.
I feel strange nostalgic melancholy reading this announcement. I've been a reader of Anandtech almost from the day it started. I immediately appreciated the level of no nonsense technical breakdowns that formed the basis of all your reviews. I immediately trusted the integrity of this site to not sell out and to present honest opinions of the tech being reviewed even if it meant telling us the ugly truth. I'm sad you are going Anand but I will certainly keep supporting the site, as you rightly acknowledge, for a long time now this site has been as much and probably more about the team of people you brought together than it has been about you. I am sure they will stay loyal to the underlying philosophy that makes Anandtech what it is. So long and thanks for all the fish :)
Anand, thank you for giving us the best place for reading about computers. Your articles and knowledge have been deeply appreciated and enjoyed. Live long and prosper in every way possible
I started reading your reviews in 97 and built my first computer with the information from your blog. I was amazed at the quality of the information back then and I still am today. Now I work fulltime with IT and AnandTech has been an invaluable source of information.
You helped me steer clear of Celeron which was new in 97 or 98 and you saved me a ton of trouble with your SSD-coverage in the last few years. You will be missed! But I will not give up on AnandTech, that is a promise.
Anand it's a bittersweet feeling reading your last post but I'm very happy for you in making this decision. Whilst my visits have waned over the years, a lot of my early knowledge of tech came from spending hours trawling these pages around the time of dialup modems and now I have a successfully career in the IT industry, perhaps even thanks to you. All the best in the future and you have my gratitude for providing such a great website and service, yes something that does the trend! Carl.
Thanks for such great quality articles and research that always kept me interested. 15+yrs every day ive visited this site. I feel old now. Enjoy your new life!
Wow! This is quite a shock. Not entirely unexpected though. I understand though that you want a change. I've been reading AnandTech for over 15 years! Good luck in your future! All the best!
I've been reading your content for years, and I believe that you have made the best technology review site out there. Good luck in your new endeavors, Anand.
I think I've reading this site since not long after it started. I greatly appreciate your nearly 2 decades of dedicated work. I've learned a lot from you. While you will be missed, I am very happy that you are able to retire from such a demanding job at a young age. I hope you enjoy having more free time.
This is the site that got me started in tech back in 2001. To this day, I still frequent only anandtech and one other site. No bullcrap click bait, no slanted reviews, and, of course, the best tech forums on the net. Thanks for everything.
Wow... this is quite the shock... I remember the GeoCities days back when I was just a few short miles from where it all began. I remember buying a motherboard from my "latest" home computer at the time and looking on the package and seeing "As reviewed by AnandTech" and thinking "Holy Sh!t... I know that guy!"... well, I felt like I knew you anyway... You've been a source of inspiration for me (and many others) all along.
Take care, and best of luck with whatever comes your way next!
Anand, thank you for sharing your learning and educating us. I have learned so much from you and your team over the years. It is increasingly rare to find high quality writing and in-depth technical information in the ever-increasing tsunami of mediocrity and lowest-common-denominator. Your exacting standards are something that we can all learn from and try to emulate in all that we do. I wish you the best in your future endeavors!
I've been a reader (and avid fan) of this site since just before the turn of the century, and I have stuck with this site not only because of the deep understanding of the tech that the writers bring to the table, but also for the excellent writing that they use to convey their findings with. At a time when most review sites were just comparing video cards by seeing which one had a higher FRAPS score in Quake, AnandTech was able to explain (clearly) why and how one video card was faster than another. I also really enjoy how much I can get from the comments on most articles. It's a testament to the quality of the writers and articles that the comments sections in an AnandTech review doesn't devolve into a "you guys are just a bunch of *insert brand here* fanboys!" I thank you for bringing a superior level of excellence to the internet, and for maintaining it for 17.5 years!
I look forward to another 17.5 years of quality learning ahead of me. Good luck in your future endeavors Anand Lal Shimpi, and thank you for bringing us AnandTech!
1997, huh? I cannot recall for sure when I first tuned in, but it seems as though it was at the very beginning of AnandTech. Like everyone posting here, I'm grateful beyond words for your providing me with a site that has, since its inception, been my go-to authority on everything PC. I finally decided that Microsoft committed such a "crime against computerdom" with the fiasco known as Windows 8, that I left the fold and transitioned myself completely back to Apple (desktop, laptops, tablets, and phones) after 23 years as a PC aficionado and builder. I therefore won't miss your presence here, Anand, as much as most of my fellow geeks, but my gratitude for your mountains of help over the last 17 years will be as great as theirs. Godspeed.
Good luck Anand. It took a while for me to value your site as the best source of information. I was a follower of Tom's back in the day when he was still calling out "Satan Clara" Intel while trumpeting AMD. Once he stopped writing, the site went down hill fast. I hope AT remains the top quality source for hardware information that it is today!
Wow what a shocker! Wishing you the best at Apple Anand!
I've been with your site near since its inception about 98 or so. Always checked in what is new in tech on you site almost daily! Sad to know you're leaving the PC arena, although I know you'll be around, it's just not the same. Cheers
Thanks Anand! You have taught me a lot about computer hardware and I have been better informed from the articles that you have written. I am very excited for the future for you and this site. I have been enjoying the current articles from the other authors and I fully support the changes that are being made.
I started reading anandtech, tomshardware, arstechnica, hardocp, aceshardware, sysopt, and many of the other great tech sites back in 1998. Many have disappeared entirely or faded into near-irrelevance (toms). It sucks to see Anand move away from the press side of things because he was someone you could always trust to look out for consumers. His site reflected that approach while still carrying enough industry clout that he was able to get yet-to-be-released products ahead of review embargo and produce critical reviews that negated company PR spin.
Anandtech has been a major catalyst for multiple product recalls and price drops over the years, so seeing Anand shift to the other side and working for a single company is disconcerting. His critics will probably point to this job transition as proof he was drinking the Apple kool aid, but I think The Kid continually displayed more integrity than that, even when taking AMD money for their own subsection on his site. Hopefully the groundwork laid for his former site's future can continue with a strong consumer-oriented focus without losing credibility, as happened to tomshardware after the doctor sold out.
Anand thanks for the wild and interesting ride along with saving me money versus poor puchases. You went from The Kid, to Boy Wonder to Old Man Hermit. Ya even made Intel quiver more than once. Bet your 17 year old self never saw that one coming. Cheers.
I am sorry and saddened to see you leave, Anand. I've followed the site since 2000. I've had the (AT) site and forums bookmarked in all of my pcs'/laptops'/netbooks'/tablets'/smartphones' browsers since then.
Has it been that long? I remember my first exposure to the AMD line of server CPU's named Opteron on this site. I've always cherished the balance of content and advert, and the succinct, informative content that that AT maintained while other sites declined into advertorial. This may not be Google, Apple or Microsoft but nonetheless you should be proud of what you have created. Information is what the internet is all about.
PS I still use AT to test connectivity to the internet on various servers and computers. It is unlikely to be cached by a user, and I may just eyeball a good read.
Wow. It's been a long time. I remember reading your reviews on the BH6 and the AX6BC Pro Gold all those years ago. It's been so long I have even lost my original user name and email address. Feeling a strange sadness.
Good luck Anand, you were my go to guy back in the day.
All I have to say is, thank you for creating AnandTech. I was never really an avid follower of this site until recently, but it was due to the extremely detailed multi-paged reviews of everything tech related that kept me coming back. They are truly second to none. I also love the idea of the "Bench" section. Sometimes, it's hard to find a comparison on two very specific GPUs or other hardware, but AnandTech's Bench section makes it really easy.
There's a lot more I can say about this site, but overall, I just really thank you for creating site that puts out quality articles with quality information. You are still a very young 32 years old, so I wish you the best with your future endeavors.
I remember the first time I saw the AnandTech logo appearing on a motherboard box back in late 90's when they used to have computer shows. I have been happily following you since then and have learned a lot over the years. Can't imagine the numbers of articles I've read. This is one of my favorite site and will continue to be so. Thanks to all the good work and good luck in future endeavors.
Thanks for all the great work over the years! I have been around since about the beginning, and have enjoyed the site and the forums for years. Again Thank You!
Firstly, Thanks for all what you have given us in way of unbiased tech reporting. Anandtech is the yardstick to which every other tech publication should measure themselves to. Your reviews have always been the 'go to' standard and I hope the new team can maintain that standard. Your efforts in ensuring manufacturers produce quality products have impacted consumers worldwide. I will definitely miss your input but I hope you will still make guest appearances when possible. Good luck with you new gig mate. All the best.
All the best Anand. I can't recall for how many years I have been reading articles here and it has always been a good and accurate source of information. (so probably not since you started then :p)
Thanks for all your brilliant articles, Anand, and the best of luck in what ever you choose to do in the future. I can't wait to hear about it!
I'm a newbie here at Anandtech, but I've been enthusiastic about tech (PCs in particular) since I was 6-7 years old in the mid-90s. However, this has faded recently, and a lot of that had to do with the feeling that for all the articles and news I read, I didn't learn anything but spec sheets and PR speak. Discovering AnandTech (I've read the odd article here throughout the years, but never became a regular reader) has completely changed this, and I feel like I've learned more through the past few months than I have probably in the past five years. Thank you, Anand, for setting the standard for insightful, well-researched, highly technical yet utterly understandable and engaging articles. Thank you for making sure tech reporting is more than "How many PCMarks does the new Intel CPU score?" Thank you for giving me an understanding of the technical aspects of computers far beyond anything I'd ever imagined possible outside of actually getting a computer science degree - and for showing me how horrendously little I know.Thank you, and the best of luck!
I have followed your work since the beginning, when I was in college. It's one of the few places I check regularly. I have learned more here than I can quantify. Thanks Anand! All the best to you!
Thanks for bringing this site and your insights to my life over the years Anand. My respect for you has continually grown over the years, not just your knowledge but apparent humbleness, ethics and honesty. The site has been a shining beacon of hope that the worlds not full of dumb/ignorant smucks, there a few who still like to learn :)
Best of luck in whatever you get yourself into, I look forward to seeing you popping up in my twitter feed from time to time with good news :)
Thank you so much Anand for your many years of serving the tech community. We are the ones who owe you a debt of gratitude, your hard work and dedication has made this THE best site on the Internet since it's founding for anything tech.
You've left some big shoes to fill, but I am confident that those you left in charge will keep Anandtech at the top for many more years to come.
Best of luck to you at Apple, Anand. I've thoroughly enjoyed the site through the years and I am sure you will continue to impress and do great things over there.
Thank you Anand! I've followed you since 1997 and have watched you grow into a fantastic example of what somebody can achieve if they have passion and perseverance. You have fueled the love of technology for millions of tech enthusiasts across the globe. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you do and look forward to learning more from you about whatever passion you choose.
Hello dear Anand and all our shared friends here! I had never ever wrote a comment in your site, congratulation big man, your writing experience is fantastic. Best wishes for you. Also this is 512th comment on this post, a binary number for a binary man !!! Shervin <before signup another one posts 512th comments :D but still this number is mine ;) >
Anand, although I'm more of a lurker than a regular contributor to this community, I have always appreciated the expertise, thoroughness, and professionalism of AnandTech.com. This site has been an invaluable resource for me anytime I needed to research various tech components or products. I look forward to all the exciting changes forthcoming.
I wish you great success in your future and much needed rest in the following weeks/months. Thanks for your tireless efforts and immeasurable sacrifices.
Thanks brother for all the good you've brought. I've been reading you since the beginning and will continue to enjoy the site for years to come. Enjoy your new endeavors and hopefully they bring you as much joy as you have brought all of us.
I have been visiting this site for over 15 years and have thoroughly enjoyed the evolution of the site since the old Anand's Hardware Tech page days! I use this site for my main source of information and reviews. I have never been let down by there articles in my system builds and purchases. I have full confidence in the team Anand has put together and will continue to visit this site regularly! Anand, you will be missed. Best wishes Anand in your continued successful endeavors and you will be missed!
Anand, I remember like it was yesterday when your site was first up and our definitive guide to modding. My friend and I used your Intel upgrade guide and motherboard reviews to figure out when we'd sell our old CPUs and get the "next best CPU" at the computer trade shows in Santa Barbara. For all your help, thank you. There are a few pioneers who have a huge influence, and you, sir, made a positive history within the world of DIY PC building.
I remember seeing you interviewed on the news back in college (around 1998 I think) when Anandtech first starting to get big. It's crazy to think how long it's been. Good luck at Apple!
You brought a beautiful light into the tech world, discovering and sharing what is important to people. Apple is welcoming a meticulously insightful man. Thank you for your work and start blazing the trail to the future! Good luck, Anand!
Back in 1997 when I started my career in IT, it was Tom's Hardware and Anandtech that I browsed on 33.6k Dialup. Anandtech became my go-to site, however. It was made by a kid and it was great! Plus, I lived and worked near his hometown, so there was some allegiance 'built-in'. Today, still one of my regularly frequented sites - I'll always be a loyal 'follower'. Thank you Anand!
Hi Anand, I have been a reader of anandtech for as long as I can recall. I have bought and built several Laptops/PC's based on your analysis and recommended many many more to freinds and family. TY so much for providing an objective and exciting opinion on so many things over the years. I wish you all the best and hopefully we will continue to hear from you every now and then.
All the best Anand. You are one of those who really made a real difference in the world of tech journalism. Honestly, I didn't like this move to Apple. I wish it were Intel, Google, or Qualcomm. It's also interesting to know your role at Apple. I hope it's not a PR related job or such. I can't imagine an honest guy like you coming up on the stage hyping a mediocre Apple product while belittling competitions effort.
Anand, it's been a pleasure reading your site and your articles for over 15 years now. It's been exceptionally educational and has guided many a PC build or upgrade I've made.
This site has been truly one of a kind. There are other sites I've read on and off (I still recall SharkyExtreme, StorageReview, and HardOCP back in the day), but none with as much frequency, nor delivering as much value, knowledge, and professionalism in its content. And without a doubt, that is why AT has been so successful.
I wish you the very best in your future endeavors, and will always remember your work with AnandTech fondly. Sad to see you depart but excited to see what lies ahead, both for your career and for AnandTech.
Hi Anand: Thanks so much for your time and dedication to this site. Anandtech has remained my go-to site for tech news for over ten years now. It truly is a treasure trove of information. I wish you the best of luck in all things that you do.
Hey Anand, I just registered specially to thank you - and your team - for your great work over the years. I hope you end up doing what you love to do, though if you end up working at some fruity company who need to be hit with the clue stick from time to time, don't spare the clue stick!
But, the anandtech.com philosphy was the build-it-yourself individual who wanted total control of their hardware PC. This is completely the opposite of the Apple view of the world.
One of the best tech sites I have used almost from the beginning of your endeavors (2001) Anand. Good luck in all you do and thanks for the great site you leave behind and in good hands
I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. I have been a loyal reader for the last 15 years. I have learned so much from your site, more than any classroom can teach. Back then my go to sites for any computer hardware reviews were Anandtech and Tom's Hardware. Today I still come to Anandtech for your in depth analyses and reviews. I KNOW what you say is true and trust your reviews 100%. I can't say that for any other sites out there. Started out building crappy 486 and Pentium processor machines in my early teens and now I'm in the IT field as a Network/Systems Administrator. I am glad to say that a lot of what I know I learned from your site.
Thank you for putting in the effort for all these years. I am probably speaking for millions of other readers of AnandTech when I say without hesitation that you and this site has been one of the strongest influences in my professional life and career. When I come to AnandTech, I know that I am getting quality information from people who care about what they are doing and understand their role in the community as unbiased reviewers. Good luck with everything you choose to do!
thank you! thank you! thank you! you've kept us informed, knowledgeable, educated, and aware. the industry improved because of your presence. i wish you all the best!
Best of luck Anand. The quality of work put in by Anandtech over the years has set a standard in quality for others to look upon. I am glad you are able to step back from such a great body of work and continue to your next stage in life. Take care and best of luck.
All the best Anand !. I have been a follower of this site for about 14 years now and not once was i bored enough to stop reading.. Thanks for sharing your passion and inspiring many like me...
Just wanted to say that out of all the millions of tech sites out there, Anandtech is my favorite. Honestly, I am a bit sad that Anand is leaving, he is someone who is inspiring and his writing style was truly amazing. You will be missed, and thanks for all your incredible work. I really hope you continue to write maybe 1-2 guest articles every year, because your articles are very special to your viewership. Thanks again, and keep us update with any future endeavors.
I wish you the very best. I have been reading the site for 11.5 years now and started off, interestingly enough, in the "deals" forums...and stayed for the MOBO/CPU articles. Definitely informative and a great foundation to build one's own machines. Thanks and best of luck!
My first encounter with your site was in 1998, when I was sophmore in college. I was building my first custom rig with an overclocked Celeron 300A. I was scouring your site (among a few others) for information on what motherboards and other components to buy, settings to use, etc. The memory of the first time that rig powered up stable at 450mhz and was able to run my N64 emulator (unplayable at 300mhz) smoothly still brings a smile to my face. To me, you were that kid with his own tech web site. Seeing you grown up and moving on is making me feel old (...because we are). Best of luck with your next endeavor Anand. Thanks for being there to help one of many college kids circumvent Intel and AMD's product segmentation strategies =)
I remember as if it were yesterday when you concluded a review with "I have yo get some rest because I have an AP exam tomorrow" back when you were in high school. That was the first time I realized you were just a kid writing some of the most well written and deeply insightful technical articles I had ever read. I have been a fan ever since. Best of luck at Apple, they're lucky to have you as part of their staff.
Its a sad day to see SharkeyExtreme then Anandtech and Now HardOCP the last of the three original founders of the underground net authorities leaving what they started. Its truly an end of a ERA where it all began. Only those of us who where there when it all started will truly remember and appreciate what it all meant. It was a time like no other and it seems just like yesterday when it all began. It is a sad day to see it all changing. ~GL to you all....

Wow, good sign off and thanks for basically the only site I go to for understanding the actual workings of modern silicon (and whatever might replace it).In 1997 I was doing a 4th grade science project on RISC vs CISC processing architecture.

I feel like I've been reading your reviews for my entire life, and I'm sad that will change but I want to thank you for creating a place for accuracy and detail to thrive. I think Anandtech has shaped the review space for the better, or at the very least we could always just say upon reading a badly write review "just wait for the Anandtech review." I hope that never changes.Thank you again for all you've done and I wish you the best.
Signed, a loyal fan.

I knew this was coming. Tell-tale signs over the past year or more. I'm crying inside. Anandtech has been my homepage since 1998 (I'm 34). That's not an exaggeration.I also have faith in the team that has and will continue to run this site.

What you have taught me about micro architecture and other technical things as been invaluable, you found a way to bring highly technical engineering to the masses in a way no one else has been able to.
I thank you for all the time you have put in and wish you the best in all your future endeavors!

All the best to you, Anand! I hope your next stage is ever more engaging and fulfilling than this has been.Thank you for all the superior quality writing and analysis. I've been reading your site on and off ever since 1998 or so when I was a kid a couple years younger than yourself. Whenever I come back it is because I want to know what the state of the consumer hardware industry is, and I know there is no better site for original in-depth analysis, and most importantly, sane and balanced writing. I've seen the move from solely enthusiast PC hardware to Apple products and mobile, and it has always worked because of your genuine openness to learning.Good luck in your future endeavors, I hope it stays interesting.

Good luck with the future and I hope you find happiness with whatever you decide to do.Chris

Keep in touch kid!Rage187 - Saturday, August 30, 2014 - link

Back in those days, finding a place that really kept up with the changing hardware market was hard to find (well, not really, as there were only 2-3 good sources, but search engines were still not very good or comprehensive (in fact google did not even exist yet)).I think I can say with many people here that we will miss your insights and pull that you had within the hardware industry.

You will be missed :(rudolphna - Saturday, August 30, 2014 - link

Thankyou Anand. I've been reading and listening to your articles for the better part of 13 years now (since I myself was about 13). As much as you have thanked the people over the years for what they have taught you, I would like to extend the same thanks to you. No one single person has taught me as much in regards to technology as you have. Especially in-depth product knowledge that I have drawn upon on many occasions when asked for advice from friends, family and colleagues.I hold AnAndTech to be the most trusted, reliable and read-worthy tech site on the internet today - and a large part of that is due to the standards that you have set.
You will be missed! Thankyou again :)

But I think I'm really going to miss just listening to Anand talk about tech, really interesting and informed perspective on things.Thank you for your work and all your amazing contributions.

Not to mention you single handedly changed OCZ SSD firmware, warranties, and customer service initiatives.I know you've been doing this for over 17 years, but I will kindly thank you for 10 of those.

I don't know how long I've read AnandTech. I know I started early in college (which I started in 1996) so it must have been very early on. I still recall one of our professors telling us in 1999 in our class on computer hardware that we should just read AnandTech and we'd ace the class. As someone that already was a reader, he was certainly right about that.Years later, as my wife pursued her PhD at UNC, I still recall being amazed that one of my fellow programmers went to high school with Anand.

Thankyou Anand, its been a pleasure reading this site all these years. May all your new endeavors meet with good fortune. It's kinda weird to get a little misty reading your parting words, sniffle....good luck sir!darckhart - Saturday, August 30, 2014 - link
Thanks for everything.mindwreck - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link

I've read this site for so many years, since around 2001. Its always had some of the best, or THE best articles (even if i've bitched about some stuff but only because i expect high standards here). It's going to be weird without you Anand! I feel like i've almost grown up with you, and we're almost the same age. Shouldn't the site now be called RyanTech though? lol.And no mention of what you will be doing now Anand?

All the best, I look forward to finding out where you go next.bigboxes - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link

I will miss you, and best of wishes.Mathos - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link
As a person who has followed this site, since way back when it first came up. I can safely say I'm sorry to see you go, and you will definitely be missed.I remember reading about things like the Abit mobo's, during the K6 and K7 days on this site, like the KT7A, KT133 and 133A.

Whatever happens, don't lose that spirit!umeshdraut - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link
Dear Anand,Beyond the daily dose of tech (needless, but still OK to add, this site is all my browsers' home page for years), I never thought I should or would write so seriously here about anything as -
a) the site has been so US-centric that some comment from India would never be treated worth whatever it is, mainly by the big companies (market ??), and hence the people at the site itself.
b) this really comes as a shock and so probably would never have crossed the mind even in its craziest states.

Thank you for the site and the reviews all these years.I'm 38 and I've been reading you since Day 1, along with no more than 10 technical sites, but only two or three on par with anandtech.com
Thank you again and good luck to Ryan Smith!

Another 10+ year reader here.I rarely post comments anywhere, but I couldn't resist posting a farewell/thank you note here.
Kind regards, Prodromos

Thanks for the years of top-quality articles, insight and analysis. Anandtech's articles have always been the gold standard for anyone seeking advice on tech, and even when there's been something to disagree with in an article, it always sits within the context that "Ahh, this article is only 10 times better than any other site's. Why isn't it 20 times better?"When I see reviews on other tech sites I've bookmarked, I know I'm going to read Anand's first.

I began writing about tech not much time after you, and since I discovered AnandTech in the early 2000s it became absolutely essential both my amusement, my interests, and my own job. The depth and technical insight you set as one of the pillars of AT have been differential and pivotal in my (and I guess everyone who has read AnandTech over the years) understanding of how tech has evolved over the years.I know how difficult it is to build a strong audience and to maintain the quality of a tech site for so long, so I can't only say how proud I am of you and your team's work.
Muchísimas gracias, Anand.

It is a sad day for me to be losing such a source, but of course I understand why you are doing this.
Your place will be greatly missed here, and I hope that you still enlighten us from time to time with your knowledge and insight.
Best of luck in your future endeavours.

So long Anand! I remember my first foray to internet tech sites in 1998/1999 during the celeron 300a oc to 450 craze. I gravtited here and to Toms. I don't know when but somewhere along the way I stopped checking Toms and started coming here almost exclusively, for the objective and in depth analysis you provided and still provide in a diverse number of tech subjects.Good luck with your future endeavors!

Hey Anand,The site you've built is my #1 source for computer-tech info in the internet.

You did well for a scrawny fourteen year old kid and I salute you, and I salute the great legacy you leave behind.Netopia - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link

Dear Anand, you are a raw model to me, you articles have a certain style and depth that is unmistakable, I've really enjoyed reading them in the last 15 years - I have not found yet anything similar. Actually anandtech.com is the first page in my browser that opens when I want to read some news. I wish you the best for your new activities, whatever they may be, and let's hear from you!five_seven - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link
Like many, I found the site in 1998/1999 during my junior/senior year of high school. I've built eight PC's with parts based on the reviews and articles you and your other writers have done throughout all these years. You've been my home page every day I start "work", spending more time here than on any news websiteGood luck and I welcome with open arms the continuation of this great website with the next generation!

I started reading your articles back in 2006 (made an account only recently though). And to this day it's my favorite site on the internet, I find it one of the most professional and reliable sites out there, and I must say I agree with you about the anandtech staff, very knowledgeable, professional, and outstanding writing.I hope to see you change your mind and come back to right articles here, but no pressure... I wish you good luck at whatever it is you plan to do with your future!

Even now, there are reviewers you've hired that are incredible writers in their own right.By chance, are you going to work for AMD? Given AMD's hiring habits of late and Anandtech's close relationship to AMD, it wouldn't shock me.

O7GT69 - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link
Retirement is for old guys like me - not you young folks...SHartman1976 - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link

Good luck and best wishes in whatever you choose to do now and in the future, Anand, and thank you for all this site represents!nafhan - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link

Good luck in your future plans.trisweb2 - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link

No pandering, no click-bait and over-promising headlines a clean and structured appearance, level headed approach and respectful attitude towards the readership. Big detailed analysis instead of infotainment, rumor-mill and distraction. A useful comparison tool with Bench. I really hope that Anand's success will continue and inspire successful imitators.Of course there are always ways to improve testing and analysis of what seems to be an almost infinitely complex subject, I hope that the new AT will still strive to advance testing and streamline the presentation of results, with more meta and statistical analysis.
Considering just how much the press depends on the industry and how difficult the position of tech sites really is, what we've got on page and between the lines is not bad, not bad at all. It's truly a shame that tech-reporting requires so much traveling.

Anyway, the best of luck in your future endeavors!PHerrmann - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link

Anand, you will be missed and I wish you all the best in your bright future!fokka - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link

Cesarnsparadox - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link
Anand,I've been reading you since the beginning.

Thank you Anand.cavingjan - Sunday, August 31, 2014 - link

Salute Anand!!!!Really crafted a tech journalism career when it was non-existent
Remembering my teen days when i started my pc business as well assembling P3-P4 and only valuable source of information i could gather anywhere was Anandtech.
Motherboard, Chip level repairing....was my life and Anandtech was my soul....Once
With processor advancement and so much tech growth...Ur site has really kept pace.
Cheers!

All this I owe to anandtech.com and other couple of sites that share free information - I'm glad you found pleasure and financial success in this adventure and wish you good luck in whatever you plan to do next.Mk4ever - Monday, September 1, 2014 - link
No reply, and I thought at least I gave it a shot.A couple of months later, Anand wrote for the first time on the web (AFAIK) an amazing article about GPU-accelerated video encoding, a concept no one explored before at any depth, and later exclusively got a beta tool for video encoding from ATI, not released previously anywhere.
Sincerely,
Mohammad Hussain

This site has been, for a long time, my first port of call for reliable technology information. Even where other sites have appeared handling certain specific topics more thoroughly - graphics cards, for instance, or acoustics - Anandtech has always managed to provide a generalist overview with some seriously heavy insights of its own into topics such as CPU design. The transition to being the first and best site providing a proper, weighty insight into mobile technology happened so seamlessly that I barely noticed it happen. I remain extremely appreciative for it.So, thank you, Anand. Thank you for bringing us this site, nurturing it, and sending it off out into the world to continue your work.

I came to AT pretty late, around the time you posted the "definitive" SSD backgrounders, which is probably a big loss for me: Looks like you could have filled the gap that BYTE left.I'm not so sure I like the idea of you going to Apple: Last "Apple" I ever owned was a Apple ][ clone, because it was the perfect DIY computer.
Thanks for the work done and Good Luck!

1) All CE is perfect for a given use case. You building your own "PC" is for your specific use case.2) How exactly do you build your own notebook, tablet, smartphone, and (perhaps) wearables? Sure, it's technically possible, but it's unrealistic to think that DIYers aren't buying these complete products from the vendor of their choice.

Thank you Anand!I have been a passionate reader since I first found your site in my early teen years (~10 yrs ago).

I have been using this site in all those years, to learn about new tech, and made me able to choose the right tech for our place.Good luck Anand, and thanks.. really! I never had an account here, but thanks to all you guys for your great comments, very insightful ;)
This is an end to an era!

This is a sad day for us. Your articles and knowledge literally taught me enough over the years that I was able to run my own company for almost a decade. I too decided to move on after that, but I continue to follow the industry, and build custom machines for family and friend every now and then.So thank you. I am sure that there are thousands of us out here that could say you helped them in so many ways too.
It will not be the same without you. And that is what makes this a sad day.

So long and thanks for all the fish :)Super8 - Tuesday, September 2, 2014 - link

It's a testament to the quality of the writers and articles that the comments sections in an AnandTech review doesn't devolve into a "you guys are just a bunch of *insert brand here* fanboys!" I thank you for bringing a superior level of excellence to the internet, and for maintaining it for 17.5 years!I look forward to another 17.5 years of quality learning ahead of me. Good luck in your future endeavors Anand Lal Shimpi, and thank you for bringing us AnandTech!

1997, huh? I cannot recall for sure when I first tuned in, but it seems as though it was at the very beginning of AnandTech. Like everyone posting here, I'm grateful beyond words for your providing me with a site that has, since its inception, been my go-to authority on everything PC.I finally decided that Microsoft committed such a "crime against computerdom" with the fiasco known as Windows 8, that I left the fold and transitioned myself completely back to Apple (desktop, laptops, tablets, and phones) after 23 years as a PC aficionado and builder. I therefore won't miss your presence here, Anand, as much as most of my fellow geeks, but my gratitude for your mountains of help over the last 17 years will be as great as theirs.
Godspeed.

Anand is headed to Apple.http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/09/anandtech-f...
Cheers.

Has it been that long?I remember my first exposure to the AMD line of server CPU's named Opteron on this site. I've always cherished the balance of content and advert, and the succinct, informative content that that AT maintained while other sites declined into advertorial.

Thanks for all your brilliant articles, Anand, and the best of luck in what ever you choose to do in the future. I can't wait to hear about it!I'm a newbie here at Anandtech, but I've been enthusiastic about tech (PCs in particular) since I was 6-7 years old in the mid-90s.

Reading Anandtech since late 90s. All the best, friend.jay401 - Thursday, September 4, 2014 - link

Hey Anand, I just registered specially to thank you - and your team - for your great work over the years. I hope you end up doing what you love to do, though if you end up working at some fruity company who need to be hit with the clue stick from time to time, don't spare the clue stick!Doomtomb - Thursday, September 4, 2014 - link
SOLD OUT TO APPLEsamduhman - Sunday, September 7, 2014 - link
So the truth is out there.... not in his final goodbye....You know some of us have to give him some grief since he Sold Out to Apple! Can't say I'm not disappointed..

The Apple philosophy is interesting. But, the anandtech.com philosphy was the build-it-yourself individual who wanted total control of their hardware PC. This is completely the opposite of the Apple view of the world.

One of the best tech sites I have used almost from the beginning of your endeavors (2001) Anand. Good luck in all you do and thanks for the great site you leave behind and in good handsGasaraki88 - Friday, September 5, 2014 - link
Oh no... ='(I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.
It will be sad to see you go.

Thanks again, and keep us update with any future endeavors.miskol - Sunday, September 14, 2014 - link

I wish you the very best. I have been reading the site for 11.5 years now and started off, interestingly enough, in the "deals" forums...and stayed for the MOBO/CPU articles. Definitely informative and a great foundation to build one's own machines. Thanks and best of luck!Anthony L - Wednesday, September 17, 2014 - link
Thanks for being there to help one of many college kids circumvent Intel and AMD's product segmentation strategies =)hrishi700 - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

Best of luck at Apple, they're lucky to have you as part of their staff.Lea chodrie - Wednesday, February 17, 2016 - link
