Interestingly enough, I just registered my University copy of office last week. Just checked my storage and no increase yet :( But then again I have the 7GB free, plus 20GB 'enthusiast' bonus for having a windows phone, plus 100 GB from turning in a few Bing points, plus 3GB for having a lumia phone with the pureview camera, plus the 20GB from Office 365... I am not exactly hurting for space right now.
It is not going live until July it seems. Also MS didn't mention if they are changing the maximum file size(was 2GB). If the max file size remains 2GB it would be disappointing.
I don't htink that will be a huge problem for most people. At least for me the only files I really have larger than that are my Windows install disc images. Even my GoG installers are all broken out into sub 2GB files for games that are larger than that.

1TB with Office subs is crazy-good. Google Drive had the cheapest 1TB pricing at $120. For $20 less you can get 1TB for 5 different users, plus Office for 5 people. Pretty awesome value, IMO.
That said, how many people really want/need this much space? I wouldn't have thought the market for folks wanting massive amounts of storage would be all that big (although I'm one of the people in that market).

On the amazon side, it's worth noting that the 50gb and larger plans all come with storage for 250k songs outside the data cap. Depending on what you're backing up this can make their plans a lot more competitive than the numbers in the table make them look. eg in my case I'd only save a dollar defecting to MS or Google.
Matched songs don't count towards your cap for MS or Google. Beside that, 250k songs is about 1-2Gb meaning you save $1 and get double the space (going with MS over Amazon), or save $26 and get the same space.
Your average song is only a 4-8k file... Do you have worlds largest midi collection or something? If you actually had 250k songs that'd be about a terabyte of mp3s/etc.
Also worth noting is users getting 3GB free when you auto upload photos. I have a Windows Phone and this was a no-brainer. OneDrive is a great solution since it's also cross compatible and semi-transparent on Windows.
This is actually quite compelling. I am an IT professional. A consultant that programs in a great many languages and works on large, mission critical, applications. I have a plethora of computers (16 or more). However, the one I favor has no more than a 250GB SSD and a 500GB harddrive...and they are no where near full, not by a long shot. (granted I'm not a gamer, nor a movie/song pirate, so I don't store as much as those folks). I spend more money just backing those up than the Microsoft subscription. Now if they would extend it to my Desktop, Laptop and Cell Phone..under the same plan...wow.
How much can it cost to back them up really? Couple external HDDs you can rotate out to a remote location, cheap cloud storage all over the place...take your files, 7-zip and encrypt on Ultra settings and put them in the cloud (god that term makes me feel dirty). At least for raw sources, they'll zip down to practically no space.
Anything I really don't want to lose, I have backed up twice to separate drives on my fileserver and copies on OneDrive and Amazon. My KeePass db is in at least 5 different places at any given time.
And throw another 500GB HDD in your box, too (assuming desktop). It's dirt-cheap for the drive and Cobian Backup is free - set it up to back everything up as often as you feel necessary and sleep easy...since it's your front line defense and you've got multiple other backups.
Honestly I'm shocked that 25% of people have MORE than 15GB! The service must be doing really well if that's true.
I'd just assume that most people are like me, and have a few documents on there at best.
OneDrive is super inconvenient now for Windows users, given 8.1 basically removed compatibility with it LOL. (To have it integrated with the Windows file system, you have to be logged in to a Microsoft account on your local machine, which is completely unacceptable)
I agree that's really annoying because I have at least one computer where I don't want to use my personal ms account but would still like to have access to my one-drive. But for the most part it's ok.
People backing up pictures/video I'd guess for most of it; depending on how good their music duplicator is cd rips might be a decent chunk. I don't have anything in OneDrive, but IIRC Amazon made me upload ~15/55GB of my music to their cloud.
