Htc could have shot themselves in the foot here. If this ends up reasonably cheaper than the s5, with a better camera than the m8, there are many buyers who won't see the benefit of the premium option.
They're fine there on smaller phones (like the iPhone) where you can just reach up with a finger and still have it totally out of the way even if you have to grip the phone real tight, but not on such large phones. Center left would be my choice.
I actually prefer top power buttons. Side buttons are too confusing with the vol rockers - you know it's the power button if it's on top. Can't say the same if it's on the side.
Let me guess, instead of it being priced at $636 like the HTC One (M8) they will bestow the privilege of it being plastic and price it at $600. Much savings!
Too bad for the wifi downgrade but i guess most don't have ac or know what it is. I do have a problem with the upper and lower bezels, no idea why design has to always refuse to evolve faster. Reminds me of some years ago when finding a device with symmetrical upper and lower bezels was a challenge.
Again, I have to ask... why won't anyone make a small phone??

My wife still has the original Droid Incredible which was HTC's flagship phone in 2010, and it has a 3.7" screen, and is extremely thin and lightweight. You could put one of those inside the shell of most recent phones and it'd have room enough to rattle around...
I saw a One M8 the other day and was amazed at how long and awkward it was.
I work retail and I constantly hear complaints about how large most phones are these days. Often times someone with something like an S4 mini comes in looking for accessories, but since no one sells these "smaller" devices at retail around here, no one sells the accessories either.
I don't think I've seen a 4 inch screen on a high-end phone in two years. The Incredible 4G is the last decent one I know of on Verizon.
How about the Droid Mini? If a 2010 Incredible is fast enough for her then the Mini would seem like its got warp drive even though its not exactly "high end".

I don't see how it's a better camera at all.Also people will buy the M8 over the E8 for the same reason they bought it over the S5: it doesn't feel like a piece of junk.
