The USB OTG drives aren't new. Sony, Transcend and others like Verbatim have dual USB OTG drives - micro USB at one end with normal USB Type A at the other. However they are targeted at emerging markets because of the prevalence of cheap Android tablets there and thus are only USB 2.0 compliant. USB 3.0 is what's new in these Patriot drives. But I am yet to see a Android tablet that supports USB 3.0 so not sure what Patriot plans with these.
So, that doesn't look like a USB 3 compliant connector. They're supposed be those ugly extended asymetric ones. Also, another company has already produced a nice small USB OTG storage adapter. http://www.meenova.com/ I picked one up during their kickstarter, very hand for use with my storage limited Moto X

yeah, but i doubt that you'd see a difference when using real usb3 on the micro-usb port.
