Holy hell, man I played AAA lacrosse in school, I was 210lbs had an 8 pack, and had efficiency with agility, how the hell do you get past 250 without doing more damage to your body than what its worth, mind you I'm 5'9 a little shorter than you, but damn WHY?
Why do people think 250 is overweight? I am 6'4" with very broad shoulders. I have a little extra weight but very little. My BMI is still in the normal range. In College I was almost 300 and all muscle from football.
You short people need to understand that height and muscle = more weight.
I don't really see the issue. any gamer serious enough to buy this will no doubt be using an expensive headset. For the random youtube video's, 2.1 is just fine.
For any non-twitch gamer, 2.1 is actually the preferred solution. For most MMOs, RPGs, Strategy titles and Adventures, neither surround sound nor headphones are particularly useful. Headsets maybe, but if you spend 5k on a chair, you can also spring for a nice directional microphone I assume.
Not really, a serious gamer(with money for this) will have a room dedicated to gaming and production and if that is the case, there probably is a mic around the monitors.
Jeez, for £10k you could build a comparable system, buy a set of three much nicer (and larger) monitors, and have enough left over to have a steelworks fab you a fancy over-the-head articulated bracket, and buy a nice chair to put in it. And you'd probably have a few grand left over.
The chair doesn't look very comfortable to me and the keyboard tray seems really close to the user's body. $10,000 is a lot to spend on this, you could easily put together something similar with a slightly bigger footprint for half that.
Dammit, I have dreamt about this for the past 4 months, except my design would have proper leg rests, and HDMI is not the best option here. And it's also a shame the PC is not integrated underneath the seat.
Who needs a 2.1 speaker system? I'd rather have a proper headphone amp/dac, but those come separately.
2.1 audio? Surround is essential for gaming in 3d worlds, so you can hear what's going on behind you. Are we supposed to just play 2D games like Peggle in this? Peggle is fun, but for this price, I expect 5.1 sound.
Also, why all this supposed end-to-end gaming station tech insists that I'd sit in one pose all the time without moving at all? Wouldn't that be bad for health? The actual convenient pose would be that of a nerd from south park WoW episode where you can half-lay at a leasure time and ability to sit straight when shit's going down hard.
Somewhat stunned that for such a high price, the PSU is a measly bronze model, the SSD is only an EVO (surely for that kind of money it should be an 840 Pro), and the 2TB is a consumer-grade Barracuda (it should be a much more reliable NS model). Plus, it really ought to be a 6-core, 3930K or somesuch, not a 4-core HW, or even an X79 board with a 4820K to begin with (better base clock than the 4770K). And only 16GB? I think not.
I like the general concept of the chair & screens, but the PC spec seems pretty lame IMO (I won't comment on the GPU choice for fear of sparking yet another back & forth rant about AMD vs. NVIDIA).
Its attention grabbing, but after the novelty wears off is it really any better / any more fun than a desk with the same or better monitor configuration? And which probably offers a lot more work space for a lot less cost?
Now maybe if it was one of those ultra high end massage jobbies...

Um, no. Only on older games that used the DirectSound HAL. Newer games making use of the new audio stack have surround sound just fine.And even those older games you can get surround back using a Creative audio board and their Alchemy solution.
So no, Surround is far far from dead.
