Ah shucks...I was hoping for a (mini) review of the Humble Weekly games. I pulled the trigger on this anyway, maybe Cities XL will be worth it and I have to try GoT just for the sake of it. 1 Day 20 hours left!
I didn't write it up last week so I figured it was too late now. Hahaha... the games aren't necessarily bad (I could look them up on Metacritic to confirm that), but nothing caught my eye. I never cared for SimCity, so Cities XL I figured was about the same genre. Hope you enjoy it, though -- lots of people like SimCity, so in some sense I'm in the minority.
Sadly as far as I know Cities XL is still very much mediocre. I'd say the good city builders of the past years are counted on two, perhaps three fingers if you want to stretch it: Tropico, Anno and SimCity 4. SC4 is still easily the king of the genre, which is rather depressing.
the last city builders I played was SimCiy 2000.... I believe I will keep the fond memories of it and never venture to the newer ones, so I don't turn happy memories to sad memories lol.
I have played CitiesXL, while it is not SC4 it's not a bad game. I would say the 2 biggest faults are lack of variety in the building models and too easy to make lost of money. The first one is rectified with mods from the community. There are some interesting mods out there.
The 2 most frustrating things with CitiesXL is the trading model (kind of like import/export) and total lack of truly upgradeable roads.
Having said all that, it can be a challenging game of managing the roads and laying out efficient routes.
I would say if the price is low (and should be with Humble), I'd buy it.
I remember I played Bard's Tale reboot, and the screenshots/video in this bundle do not add up to what I remember. Mainly, I remember you had a song-summoned companion at all times, and here it always shows him solo. What gives?
I just grabbed a screenshot from their web site, but yes -- you summon companions (up to three I think?) using music. The animation to summon gets really old, I'll tell you that, but the companions are useful.

Are any of these games compatible with Nvidia Shield?JarredWalton - Thursday, October 17, 2013 - link
They should all work on SHIELD -- they're Android games so why wouldn't they?
