See the second post from Ryan: AMD webcast via YouTube. Though if that's live, I don't think they're really going to start at 3PM. Heh. Empty tables, people wandering around looking lost, etc.
One thing I hope they fix is much better support for 4K as that will become maintream increasingly over the next two years, especially in 2015 when you'll start seeing desktop monitors at prices below $700 if the current pace holds.
Would be funny if there is and it's ready and working out of the box as Shadowplay was announced for a while and is still only a shadoware (see what I did there ?).
This event is known for months now same for the livestream and they can't make it work. That's pretty sad, hope we'll actually have a livestream in 30/45 minutes (1 hour ?).
YouTube is a terrible livestreaming platform. I'm not surprised they're having problems but rather I'm surprised that they chose to YouTube to being with.
You mean Nikon D600, judging by the EXIF information? Interesting that the resolution is 3008x2008 -- is that our engine scaling the images? Or is Anand choosing a lower resolution so that uploads aren't 10MB or whatever? Hahaha... probably the latter.
"AMD says they'll start at 4pm ET sharp. Since this is a product announcement and the markets are open, they have to issue a press release and give investors time to see it (legal requirements)"
Uhhh, AMD does realize that the market closes at 4 pm right? (/confused)
I think I could almost get over the bad driver stigma of the past but for the love give up on the cheap ATI red. It makes all the products look like they came out of a budget toy factory.
Can somebody inform me why I need all this audio in my videocard? I thought we were here to bask in the glory of the r9 290x yet they didn't even announce a price or anything.
Calling BS on the 15% CPU usage for 5 seconds for convolution reverb claim. They might want to check out the VST convo plugins that operate at a tiny fraction of that in DAW systems. Or are they using the E1-1200 cpu as their baseline gaming experience? ;-)
Hardware audio is interesting. It hasn't been given much attention in quite some years now, even before Vista. Maybe the start of a change? But the stuff they're flaunting doesn't sound much different than what Creative was supposedly doing 10-15 years ago?
Don't misunderstand me, I like the increased focus on audio. But I fail to see the use of dedicated audio hardware when today's CPUs are fast enough to do the processing without slowing down the game. These hardware processors made sense when we were running AMD K6 processors, but they killed their argument when they showed the slide that said "you need up to 15% CPU usage for advanced reverb without hardware acceleration." Most CPUs have idle cores during games; just dedicate one CPU core for audio and you get audio processing using otherwise unused resources.
Please consider offering the option to display the oldest entry on top - personally I would much rather see new entries displace the comments rather than whatever entry I am currently reading.
So 2 years ago Richard Huddy talked about DirectX was holding back PC gaming performance and draw call limitation on PC compare to consoles. Some people had suggested a vendor-specific API might be the way to go, and 2 years later a vendor-specific API is born. Nice job AMD.
I am quite excited to see the R9-290x is capable of. But why would anyone pre-order a GPU, before seeing any benchmarks - unless you're a hardcore fanboy.

I hate all the marketing around this release around fanboyism, team red etc...Why don't people just buy the best product for the price / power consumption / performance they want and not care about the name of the brand.

I wonder if we'll see hardware video encode logic on the GPU or if that will remain an Nvidia feature only.gregounech - Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - link

They already have hardware encode logic. It's called the Video Codec Engine (VCE). See our 7970 review for more details.gregounech - Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - link

30-45 minutes? lolMight as well just record it and upload after, especially since the juicy NDA stuff won't even be discussed until a later briefing.

Yes, Nikon D600. I know it's a D600, at any rate. And yes to the second question as well. It's a 6MP image because we don't need anything super high res for a live blog.

Are they really going to launch a $89 card with 1GB of memory in 2014? THey talk up high resolution and then kill it with a tiny amount of memory.Gunbuster - Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - link

Almost surely price and performance are both under NDA at the moment. You won't get any concrete numbers until it's released in late October.ClockHound - Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - link
