No one said it's the most amazing thing in the world. But a 10% increase, in the same chassis size (for the 5S), and a supposedly more efficient SoC? I'll take it.
Let's assume your snark is true. So Apple managed to DOUBLE performance with a 9% increase in power. I'd say that's a pretty impressive achievement, not something to mock.
Assuming ofcourse that both have great signal strength, because of the crappy deployment of LTE in some areas where I work, I will get 5 bars for 3G and 2 bars for LTE and if I'm on LTE the phone consumes power at an incredible level, much faster than if I turn off LTE and just use 3G. Ofcourse when I have a good signal for LTE (5 bars) the battery life is fantastic.

I do agree that a bigger battery would be desirable, but the internal pictures claimed to be from the D820 seem to confirm 2300 mAh, and after seeing the battery life of the G2 it should do ok keeping in mind that it does have a smaller screen.

I think Anand has a love affair with Apple, but I think the overall amount of coverage for Apple on Anandtech is just to generate more traffic. They do have to pay the bills after all. Even if people only show up to complain, it still boosts ad revenue.
On the other hand, most other manufacturers plainly state battery capacity (some even go into details about the chem used etc) so there's no need for a post that's basically investigative journalism... TLDR: There's nothing to investigate on an SGS4 battery, you can take it out and fondle it all you want.
