this will mean charging times will increase but that's a small price to pay. it's like apple engineers read anantech with the battery size increase, camera pixel size increase,
  • jasperjones - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

That battery size increase of roughly 5% is nothing to write home about. I call easily impressed Apple fanboi.
  • ingwe - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

Given that the size of the phone didn't increase, the 5% improvement is decent. Calling someone a fanboi isn't always accurate.
  • fourthletter - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

The 5C did indeed grow !
  • designerfx - Monday, September 16, 2013 - link

huh? it's decent, but not even notable. Look at what motorola did with the razr line and phones like the droid ultra.
  • RussianSensation - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

    1440 to 1570 is a 9% increase not 5%.
  • Romberry - Friday, September 13, 2013 - link

True, it is a 9 percent increase. And you'll notice it about as much as a 9 percent bump in processor speed...which is to say almost not at all.
  • tipoo - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

No one said it's the most amazing thing in the world. But a 10% increase, in the same chassis size (for the 5S), and a supposedly more efficient SoC? I'll take it.
  • darwinosx - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

Did he say impressed? No. I call immature Android teenager who ego is wrapped up in choice of device. Grow up is all I'm saying.
  • BSMonitor - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

Its likely to address a more power hungry 64-bit ARM CPU.. More juice to maintain the 5's battery life numbers.
  • darkcrayon - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

According to Apple, it should surpass the iPhone 5's battery life numbers somewhat.
  • name99 - Wednesday, September 18, 2013 - link

Let's assume your snark is true. So Apple managed to DOUBLE performance with a 9% increase in power. I'd say that's a pretty impressive achievement, not something to mock.

FYI you got a special mention on Techradar: http://www.techradar.com/news/computing/apple/why-...

Still, playing games whole day is far far away... :)
  • jimbo1mcm - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

Hey Brian, thanks for the info. You and Anand are absolutely best at digging out info the manufacturers like to bury.
  • muhamadamrueldan - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

i actually don't care about the number if it actually can last
    10 h for lte
    10 h playing videos
    10 over wifi
    it's seems very good isn't ?
  • solipsism - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

10 hours for LTE but only 8 hours for 3G.
  • blacks329 - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

Assuming ofcourse that both have great signal strength, because of the crappy deployment of LTE in some areas where I work, I will get 5 bars for 3G and 2 bars for LTE and if I'm on LTE the phone consumes power at an incredible level, much faster than if I turn off LTE and just use 3G. Ofcourse when I have a good signal for LTE (5 bars) the battery life is fantastic.
  • WinterCharm - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

This has to do with the fact that your phone will boost power to the antenna when you're in an area with a weak signal.
  • blacks329 - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

Oh I completely understand that, I was just saying there's a lot of room for improvement in terms of LTE deployment, which would help battery life for all phones.

"which I noted about the battery size for the Nexus 5"

    What does this refer to?
  • yelped - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

    Here. Enjoy!
  • yelped - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

Actually, just realized that it's not mentioned in the article. Brian mentioned it in one of his tweets.
  • eiriklf - Monday, September 16, 2013 - link

Think I found the tweet, basically he said he hoped the FCC data was inaccurate, and that he thought the FCC reports were inaccurate from time to time.

I do agree that a bigger battery would be desirable, but the internal pictures claimed to be from the D820 seem to confirm 2300 mAh, and after seeing the battery life of the G2 it should do ok keeping in mind that it does have a smaller screen.
  • nerd1 - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

I have never, ever seen any article on other phone's grow of battery size.
  • kyuu - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

Yeah, it's no secret that Anand has a bit of a love affair with Apple and it's spilling over into the way the site covers anything Apple versus anything else.
  • ingwe - Thursday, September 12, 2013 - link

I think Anand has a love affair with Apple, but I think the overall amount of coverage for Apple on Anandtech is just to generate more traffic. They do have to pay the bills after all. Even if people only show up to complain, it still boosts ad revenue.
  • Impulses - Friday, September 13, 2013 - link

On the other hand, most other manufacturers plainly state battery capacity (some even go into details about the chem used etc) so there's no need for a post that's basically investigative journalism... TLDR: There's nothing to investigate on an SGS4 battery, you can take it out and fondle it all you want.
