I'm amazed how his articles roll, on and on and on. Mr. Sklavos must be the most prolific writer on this site. Cases are one of my favorite topic and I am pleased. Although the competition is high, I can count only 2 models who can please me. Only one thing would be desired: keeping as long as possible the same test bed over a long period of time. Which, for the moment I don't see here happening.
I'm going to try and maintain it as long as humanly possible. I'm not PSYCHED with the case testbed I'm using now, but it's at least a good starting point, I think. I HATE the idea of switching over to a new one (and thus breaking continuity with previous reviews).
"Which, for the moment I don't see here happening." This isn't a review of the case. It is the review of a completely built PC by a boutique (Origin) based on the Bitfenix Prodigy case, which was reviewed here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5867/bitfenix-prodig...
It is not he review of a case, of course. But, one can extract bits and pieces of information, about: the BitFenix Prodigy, the Asus motherboard, of the video card. Different people have different fixations (mine being the PC case), different buying needs on a particular moment, and collecting all sorts of information, helps.
I'm supremely enjoying seeing the amd 7970 and 7950 getting utterly stomped in every game at 1920x1080, instead of the amd favoring 1920x1200 this website always uses.
That's the first thing I looked for as well. A box this small running a high end GPU is going to either overheat with extended use or be very noisy, and it would be good to see where this guy stands.
The author does point out that it gets noisy under load.
I completely agree! I have an adapter for a slim line optical drive (BluRay for me) and a 2.5" HDD with 2 USB ports. It is much more useful than just having a large ODD. It is also smaller than most normal sized ODDs I found which helps with keeping my TJ08-E innards clean and tidy.
Can someone tell me what psu they are using in here?
I got a Silverstone SFF PSU like Anandtech recommended, and now I have to buy molex to SATA power adaptors because it does not have enough SATA power plugs and that the cable is too short if you have an ODD and three HDD.
I'd prefer to have most of the USB 3.0 and eSATA ports in the front, not the back or the side. Messing around the back of the case is usually a pain in the donkey.
Grabbing everything from Newegg (except the disk drive, OS & OOS case) comes to $1248 (using coupons). Toss in $80 for the case and about $30 for the LG GT60N disk drive. and we're past $1350. Then add in a $40 Windows 8 (or retroactive 7) license with the double upgrade method and we're at $1400.
So Origin gets about $100 to build, overclock and warranty this machine. If I had the money, this would be a tempting purchase.
Well, they are going to get a better price on all those parts than you or I would buying @ retail from a company like Newegg, but still it's a competitive price either way.
Origin isn't known for being price competitive, but this LANbox is definitely that. I concur with the other posters: Can you run this through your normal case sound tests just so we get an idea how loud this baby is.
Heck if I hadn't built my own pc already I would seriously consider this.
Wait I'm a bit confused..consumers can't get your review config for $1500.. As configured it's $1,882, making it a gouge, not a great deal?
Assuming you're not afraid to OC yourself, you can build a comparable system for about $1,300. This is with an arguably better PSU, though I went with the ASRock Z77 instead of the ASUS. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail...
So, Origin desires to put their logo on the case rather than fancy Bitfenix symbol, but not willing to change color of ODD+MultiCard reader?
I can see component choice are pretty decent, but Still. I just don't understand why do they go for BLACK odd + multicard reader for WHITE case. It is very odd.
AND, I would not recommend this much high spec system for small case. It makes system pretty damn noisy for sure. though, considering GTX660Ti or 660 is not out on market, VGA choice is understandable.
good article--persuaded me to buy this over a month ago. not sure what originpc's track record has been with this build but I had to wait at least 4 weeks from the time I ordered and I'm still waiting with various "minor" delays. anyone else has experience purchasing this build from originpc. this build doesn't look to be available anymore--link provided brings you to a build but cannot select the same features in specs above. not sure what that could mean. noticeably, graphics card is a 580 and not 670.
hoping for no more delays and a product with no problems upon receipt

The one thing I look for in these reviews that is missing is sound measurements. Does this thing sound like a blow dryer under load?cknobman - Friday, July 27, 2012 - link
I would buy this thing in a heartbeat!!!It really does look like one of the most well designed, thought out, and executed LAN builds I have ever seen.
No signs of cost cutting anywhere and IF you can really get that configuration for $1499 it really is sold at a reasonable price.
WOW
