I am amazed when I see how many different models of Android phones just *one* manufacturer produces. Insane.

It does kind of materialize when you list all the models. And these are just the models that will get ICS, there are more when you include all their phones.

Am I the only one shaking my head reading those product names?

    *HTC Sensation
    *HTC Sensation XL
    *HTC Sensation 4G
    *HTC Sensation XE

I guess XL is larger than the plain one. And then there's one with 4G. But is the 4G smaller than the XL? What does XE stand for? Extra Edition? Extra what then?

Incredible, Amaze, Desire, Sensation, Raider, Rezound (huh?), Rhyme (!), Thunderbolt, Vivid... did no one on the HTC board ever think "This is just ridiculous"? I mean, where do you go from here? The HTC F**king Amazing LTE plus? The HTC F**k Yeah XL 4G? The HTC Finger-Licking-Good HD?

every carrier wants a different tweak. same basic phone, but until we can *easily* buy any phone to use with any carrier we're stuck in a world ruled by marketing "gurus" who feel the need to be unique.

Carriers need to be resigned to the fact that they are at least partly a dumb pipe.

It looks to me like just another list of phones that will get ICS sometime in the future. Just like I may buy another HTC in the uncertain future. Most of the models on this list were predictable. How about telling the world WHEN you are going to roll it out with a precision better than a year?
  • Crazyeyeskillah - Wednesday, March 14, 2012 - link

I have a rezound, originally they said it would be getting ICS around January this year, now it's march and they don't have a date scheduled.

I don't think it will do anything to make my experience better, in fact I don't even care if i get ICS at all. I just want to brag about it.

I rooted mine and installed the latest leaked ICS rom with HTC sense.
    Give it a try.
  • Deville - Thursday, March 15, 2012 - link

I'm running NilsP's Business ICS (v2.3) ROM on my rooted Rezound, and I couldn't be happier. I thought the phone was great stock. But this thing KILLS with ICS.

These Devs we have working on the Rezound are amazing.

The only negative thing I can think of on the Rezound is poor battery life. But most Android phones are like that.

I'm currently switching between a stock rezound and rooted nexus, and the rezound seems to have much better battery life, especially at idle, though I'd love to know if that's due to the enhancements in ICS. Did you notice any differences after the update?
  • Deville - Thursday, March 15, 2012 - link

ICS on the Rezound feels more animated than GB; smoother. Battery life when Idle seems a bit better on ICS, but the display still drains battery like crazy.

Look for Nils' Business ICS 4.0.3 Sense 3.6 - 3.11.605.1 on XDA in the Rezound Android Dev forum.

The Inspire 4G is just a year old. You'd think they would include it as well. It has basically the same spec's as the Desire HD. Thanks HTC.

I'm dumping these jokers and going with samsung on my next phone purchase. Their whole sense interface that they install over android is a joke.
  • ~wolverine~ - Wednesday, March 14, 2012 - link

I would think twice about the Samsung model you get. My wife's Infuse hasn't got the gingerbread update yet. All this google android updating is a joke. But I still wouldn't have an iphone if you gave me 100 of them.
  • Peskarik - Thursday, March 15, 2012 - link

I would have an iPhone if someone gave me one, and surely would have 100! Would be a nice addition to my income!
  • Peskarik - Thursday, March 15, 2012 - link

The joke here is you. Get some perspective in your life, dude, you getting upset over a stupid phone!
BTW, are you really Russian? (I am.)

Personally I do not care about this ICS upgrade, there is not much new in it anyway, why is everyone so upset? One month earlier, one month later, does it matter? You people make me laugh.

    (I have HTC Desire HD)
  • llll_Liquid_llll - Sunday, March 18, 2012 - link

NOT MUCH NEW IN IT!? LMAO! You really need to check it out because you have nooo idea what you're talking about.
  • Deville - Thursday, March 15, 2012 - link

    No way.
The widgets and 3D interface in Sense 3.x is what makes other Android users look at my phone and go "Wow!"
  • steven75 - Wednesday, March 14, 2012 - link

Hasn't everyone interested in the latest Android OS already learned that you don't buy anything but Nexus (and even then you have to cross your fingers)?

Otherwise stop buying Android phones. Duh.
  • MarkLuvsCS - Wednesday, March 14, 2012 - link

It wouldn't be quite as bad if the phones weren't releasing new models every other month. It's the carrot for the contracts. I paid outright for my Atrix, and although it isn't getting updated until later this year it's a pretty good phone. I will likely buy a Nexus in another year or two if my phone lasts that long.
  • teng029 - Wednesday, March 14, 2012 - link

HTC will update the Thunderbolt by the time Google releases the next version of Android..
  • Denithor - Wednesday, March 14, 2012 - link

Have the original Incredible, guess they've just decided to abandon those of us with that model.

    :(
  • Cheule - Thursday, March 15, 2012 - link

I have a soon-to-be two year old Desire (original model). I had one OTA update from Eclair to Froyo and was disappointed that I still couldn't squeeze many apps on there due to the apps to sd nonsense and HTC's apparent unwillingness to equip their phones with a decent amount of internal memory.

My better half got a Hero the month before I got my Desire, she had one update to Eclair and that was that. Both phones stuck in limbo almost before they were unboxed it seemed.

I never thought I'd say this but I'm definitely thinking of getting a pair of iPhones next time. Time will tell though if this is the right choice for us.

the velocity 4g (LTE) has it in australia, phone came out with 2.3.x around Jan.

this is the fastest i have seen the telco (telstra) realease a major update, probably one of the fastest in the world.

telstra usually drag their feet something chronic with updates, they were about 4-6months behind with XOOM updates, only got 3.2 on mine towards the end of last year!
