Agreed. The basic "thin and light" design existed well before MBA, only the parts were not available to execute it. Apple only gets the credit of being the first to do so on a mass scale. Concepts are always years/generations ahead of reality.
Looks like it could be a good ultrabook let's see if they screwed anything up with it in any major sense. Looks like we could have some to expect on 2012 in this field. Would be interesting to see what they do with the business lines of notebooks too.
Personally I would look forward to something like a ~13-14" ultrabook with high-res screen of at least 1600x900, Ivy Bridge, mSATA SSD, USB 3.0 and maybe thunderbolt or ethernet with a good touchpad and a platform fast enough for all but major gaming. DP out would be a requirement as I guess Intel won't support more then 1920x1200 over HDMI still. I fully expect a machine like that (given the price tag of over 1000 dollars) to be a fully functioning main machine and desktop replacement. I bought and have a 600 dollar Clarkdale based 11.6" machine as an ultraportable when I thought it was time for one some time ago. From Ultrabooks I expect something more then 1-1.4GHz dual-core Intel processors with integrated graphics and low res screens. Specially regarding the price, CULV is not something new now. Fully expect integrated graphics though, but that should be enough if they don't strangle the part and Ivy Bridge should be fine for every day use and multimedia and media creation that isn't overly cpu or GPU/GPGPU intensive. With good video decoding and encoding support, basic 3D/2D acceleration for applications with proper working drivers and all that. Couldn't really expect more like gaming any way. Not even in 15" cases. Let's see if we can get some IPS, PLS, PVA or AFFS-panels in laptops 2012 too. We might have to skip 24bit-panels but at least we should have decent viewing angles.
The manage to cram a 1080p display into a 10" tablet, but most 15" notebooks are still stuck with 766p, where resolution matters more. Let's hope that will see some changes during CES.

Looks very, very nice and high quality. And no glossy plastic, is this the end of Taiwanese obsession with all things shiny?Yet, Acer has always managed to screw up their laptops ever so slightly. Looking forward to what it is this time.
