Recommended Graphics Card : "1024 MB ATI Radeon 6950 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560"

    Ouch!

    I'll need a new computer...AMD Bulldozer with a ATI 6950 2Gb ?
  • Andrew.a.cunningham - Tuesday, September 20, 2011 - link

The system reqs as a whole look pretty high given that the thing's also coming to consoles.
  • Craig Getting - Tuesday, September 20, 2011 - link

Yeah, there will be a sizable discrepancy between consoles and PCs, but that's also just where the hardware is nowadays. EA's said from the beginning that PC was going to be "lead" platform on this one, whatever that means to their marketing department. So they probably just told DICE to crank everything up to 11.

    I lol'ed.

Two different development teams for PC and Console. Console will be a complete dumbdowned version of the PC game. Smaller maps, lower number of players, lesser graphics, etc...

Developers have already stated that you will need 580 SLI to play the game with Ultra settings.

Seems like my 9800 GT ain't gonna cut it.

Great, I get to play my most hated game, figuring out the stupid numbering system on the latest Nvidia cards for best bang for the buck.
  • mrkdilkington2 - Tuesday, September 20, 2011 - link

Your 9800gt is a rebranded 8800gt which is the minimum requirement. Considering that the card is 4+ years old, that isn't so bad. If you need a new card, Tomshardware ranks almost every graphics card made in a giant list.

    Thanks, good idea
  • SlyNine - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

If you don't want to do that why not just say what you're willing to spend and get suggestions. I do the bang for buck calculation all the time so Itd be no sweet off my back to give you a recommendation.

I would sooooo much rather buy this through Steam, I don't want to have a game downloading account on yet another service.

Super excited for BF3 though! Guess my 'lowly' AMD 5850 isn't gonna cut it anymore.
  • realmike15 - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

Couldn't agree more. I won't be buying anything other than BF3 from Origin. Anything else that comes out will be purchased through Steam or physical copy. Not interested helping make EA fatter and more greedy than they already are.

On a good note, Skyrim can be Pre-Ordered through Steam though!

my 8800gt is now min specs. :-(
  • imaheadcase - Tuesday, September 20, 2011 - link

All the videos you see online from EA are on a GTX 460, and it looks fantastic.
  • xsilver - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

Usually recommended specs = can run everything at near max no? hasnt that always been the case for games?
  • Capt Caveman - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

As I already posted, Devs are saying that you will need GTX 580 SLI to run the game at Ultra settings.
  • Assimilator87 - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

What's with the DX 10.1 minimum for ATi? I'd imagine that two 2900 XT in Crossfire would be able to at least run the game.
  • gliebsbx - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

interesting! ....I should be able to run ultra settings with my SLI'd GTX 470s...factory OCd @ 700mhz. These graphics should be insane...cant wait
  • Lunyone - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

Well I used to be okay with my x1800 xt 256mb, but since I got lucky and upgraded to at 6850 I hopefully should be good to go (assuming I want to play the game)!

Until I played Crysis 2 in DX11 + extra textures (with those 2 gigantic patches), I thought that my Phenom II X2/3,4 Ghz + 6870 were good enough for BF 3...

I just hope it's more optimized, because I would hate to lower the settings too much. I've already pre-ordered 3 month ago the Limited Edition (DVD, not digital)... :-).
  • siberia.shalasaska - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

if you can play crysis2 in "very extreme" graphic mode, then u can play this...SMOOTHLY

    dont worry : : ) )
  • siberia.shalasaska - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

those "reccomended" only runs about 60-110fps without v-sync / AA turned ON.

it will be better with gtx-590 or ati-6990.

PS: "reccomended" are market purpose only to boost the hardware sale.
in marketing strategy it's called side benefit
believe it or not, it's the actual happening.
  • gliebsbx - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

I can run Crysis 2 with all ultra settings maxed out, extra texture packs and everything, smooth as butter in most instances on my GTX 470 OC SLI setup. I am expecting BF3 to play pretty darn smooth.

    i7 950 @ 3.2ghz
    6GB triple channel ddr3 1600 muskin @ 6-8-6-24-88 (stock)
SLI gigabyte super oc GTX 470 @ 700mhz/1674mem (stock)
    antec 750watt

I just need a new sound card...thats it...running on board sound since i got my second 470, which left no room for my aged audigy 2 zs. Going to pick up an Auzentech X-Fi forte for that tiny pci express slot above my top 470. :)

WOW, FINALLY a Game designed for the latest greatest.. Finally my 2007 quad core can have some use..($149) in 07 mind you. It is about time, that a vendor finally pushed the envelope for a game, I realize that i have scene a lot of moans and groans of requirements. BUT if you cannot afford to play this game, then maybe xbox is where you want to stay at. The Recommended system, can be got for under $600 NEW letalone and upgrade.
We finally got the publishers to push the limit, and lots of belly aching...

    Pro-Gaming is never cheap.

I pre-ordered Win7 Pro, but have some legacy applications, so I've stuck with XP as my main system. I only dual-boot into Win7 occasionally.

There is a minimum spec for Vista 32-bit. Does that mean that it won't run on XP?
  • espaghetti - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

It needs a direct X 10.1 video card.
    I'm guessing it's a Direct x 10.1 / 11 game.
    XP doesn't support DX 10.
Since you have both operating systems, give it a shot on XP and let us know for grins and giggles. If you have that kind of time, of course. :)
  • gliebsbx - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link

    No, it wont:

from Nvidia's site: Most gamers already have PCs equal to or more powerful than DICE’s Minimum System Requirements, as shown by Valve’s comprehensive Hardware Survey, though 18% of the players listed there still use Windows XP, which is not compatible with DirectX 10 and 11.
