That's actually our plan - to do a CM story and show some performance numbers. I've actually run all the betas and the final stable CM7 builds on the Optimus 2X which we still have kicking around.
Honestly from the sound of it, CM7 is much, much more stable than the binary that LG has pushed out to the G2x. I can't speak too much for the G2x version of CM7, but the Optimus 2X CM7 build is flawless.

I tried Cyanogen Nightlies but not stable yet. I get too much of dropped calls with RC1. I will move to cyanogen. I have no hope on LG's software side. Better they could hire some cyanogen group persons to develop their software.
I am not recommending LG Phones to any of my friends.. after all these..
You should try out Modacos GR2 alpha. It's fluid and smooth and quick and pretty damn stable. But more importantly, it has all the LG software improvements, like a better texting app, better contacts app, 720p mkv playback, LGs camera app.
Also, there's a camera app mod that allows 30fps 1080p recording @ 17 mbps and 30 fps 720p @ 10 mbps, greatly increasing video quality. It's also available for CM7.

For instance the HTC sensation only had about 100MB free with sense 3.0 running. It also has a much better qhd screen, so the resolution is just higher although it keeps up well. Basically I bought the sensation over the g2x. In the end sense 3.0 is pretty awesome and I'm not wanting to switch back anytime soon.
I know you like to review operator models, but the original non-operator version of GS2 has been out for over three months already and it's the best thing since sliced bread, everybody says.
I'm sure you could get one directly from Samsung or afford to source one from an online retailer at RRP.
Because if you run all of the new phones on the newer version only, there will be no way to compare them to the old phones run on the older version of the test (unless you re-run every single phone on the new version).

Is the Bluetooth streaming fixed for CM7 on G2x? That has kept me from using it, since I use that frequently. I haven't tried it recently, but it seemed to run stable several weeks ago.

That's surreal, I get 4614.8 ms on SunSpider 0.9 on my SGS2 running the latest official firmware. Very very odd and unsettling, are you running a custom ROM?
I have been running a CM based Gingerbread (2.3.4) ROM with a custom kernel for some time now. I get a freeze or random reboot maybe once a week at most and I use my phone a lot. Unmounting the USB drive can result in instability occasionally. The camera isn't as nice as the LG one in 2.2 and AD2P just doesn't work. On the bright side there is a hack to get true 1080p/30fps video recording working on the camera. Netflix streaming also works which is a huge plus for me. With the custom kernel I get a minimum of a day under medium to heavy use.
For reference I am using Faux123's ROM with his OC/UV EXT4 kernal. For you benchmark junkies, OCed to 1.5Ghz it scores 5000+ on Quadrant and is completely stable (my phone at least, YMMV).
On a side note, in the specs comparison chart you have the screen on the G2x listed as 4.3" instead of 4.0".

I just got 3460 on sunspider 0.9 and 3333 on 0.9.1 with my Verizon Fascinate running the latest CM7 nightly, but even the the latest stock Verizon (2.2) ROM is in the 5-6000 range. You guys should really consider removing the 2.1 results from these reviews, or at least adding 2.2 results. The GS is still an extremely capable phone and to portray it in such a poor and inaccurate light is really doing a disservice to prospective phone buyers.
Agreed. The iPhone has a different entry for every point release yet the Galaxy S devices languish on 2.1 months after the last one got it's official FroYo update - and after the international GT-I9000 got an official Gingerbread update, to boot.
In fact I am, I'm on Lite'ning 5.0 at the moment, although I think what's really making a difference here is the governor used in the kernel. Perhaps your SGS2 is not scaling up to 1.2Ghz during the Sunspider benchmark. I know from some discussion on the XDA forums that the default Samsung governor is very conservative with it's scaling.
Also, I find it interesting that fellow readers are reporting vastly superior results with Cyanogenmod 7. I'm going to try that and report back. Any ideas on the reason for the improvement? Is CM7 using a superior Java engine?

This seems to be a bug of Android's own launcher. I have this issue on my Nexus One also. Using an alternate launcher "fix" the problem.
srry didnt see the "pages" of replies... an interesting use for a car part... but honestly i dig it. I think a lot of us tech enthusiasts are car/bike people...

My droid x on CM7 rom does the sunspider 0.9 in 3945ms (vs 7014 for stock) for peoples comparison.not overclocked at all (undervolteded though)
