I definitely took some 2D and 3D photos with the HTC EVO 3D, however HTC wasn't ready to let me take them quite yet since it isn't final and there's a likelihood things might change on the camera.

I thought you said all qHD panels (in mobile devices) are currently Pentile only? Can you at some point identify what panel(s) HTC is using to give us Pentile-free qHD? I'm really curious.
The SLCD on the Incredible 2 is beautiful and Pentile free, but not qHD.
I just wish I could activated the EVO 3D on Verizon. Damn.

Earlier it did look like the qHD panels were all going to be pentile. Now it's looking like only Motorola qHD LCD screens are going to be pentile, and HTC is just going to use an RGB stripe. I got a Droid X2 in last Friday, and compared to the Sensation/EVO 3D, I think RGB stripe wins by a fair margin.
... But, where is the Samsung Galaxy S2 review? Come on guys, it's been a month since it launched in Korea. In this global day and age you shouldn't wait for it to hit the U.S before doing a review :)

This is pretty much exactly the reason. I had contemplated buying one and having it imported (it'll even work on AT&T's UMTS bands). We decided to wait for the US carrier (and thus US Samsung) to get them, but it's been taking a while.
Essentially all the other reviews, even by stateside reviewers, have been of the international version of the phone.
I agree with what everyone has said though, we need one.

To Anandtech - 1) although many sites already reviewed SGS2, ever since reading your detailed analysis of the iphone4 antenna problem, I have looked forward to similar quality phone reviews from you. 2) A problem with existing reviews of the SGS2 & HTC Sensation is, although some of the graphs indicate there is a serious weakness in the SGS2 Mali 400MP GPU compared to GPU's from Imagination, Adreno, nVidia We need YOUR review to home in on this and provide useful benchmark comparisons between all the RECENT dual-core SoC Smartphones. 3) some have pointed out the HTC Sensation has a serious weakness in having only 1GB of internal NAND to run apps, compared to the 16GB internal NAND of the SGS2. Regarding #2, it may be problematic for Anandtech to confirm anything because of the speculation about the SGS2 having different SoC implementations for different regions. Remember, the one coming stateside may sport a Tegra2 SoC?
The issue of locked bootloaders should be watched closely in the coming months after HTC public announcements, I'm stuck with 2 Incredible S that I can't "mess" with.

According to Engadget's report of HTC's press release from last July, the Evo 4G sported the "Sony Super LCD" panel - show of hands - how many of you _actually believe_ there's an IPS panel on the Evo 4G? (Put your hands down.)
Nowhere I have I ever seen it published from the LCD industry that Super LCD = IPS. In fact, nowhere in the LCD manufacturing sector in Asia do I see the term Super LCD referred to at all as an LCD technology.
Super LCD is now part of the folklore of marketing. Even Sharp is now calling their ASV as AV Super.
Can't wait for next year's LCD crop. Those will be Super Duper LCD.

How well do these benchmarks reflect full capabilities of the dual core processors?
I've seen some statements (not sure how credible) that software remains poorly optimized to take advantage of these processors. Is this true? If so, how much are we to take from these comparisons between single and dual core systems, in terms of future performance potential?
These benchmarks are still relevant in that they show the realistic state of relative performance you can expect from these devices. Yes, Android is very poorly optimized and yes, things could run a lot faster if software actually used the hardware capabilities available (i.e. WP7) but that doesn't mean evaluating how fast devices are in the present state isn't useful information.
Is it possible for future reviews to just add another browser performance chart for the javascript tests (e.g. SunSpider) with an alternative browser (e.g. Opera 11 from the market etc...). I just feel that the stock android browser is not up to date on all fronts. This comes from my own experiments with my Samsung Galaxy S2 (Gingerbread 2.3.3.) wich shows for instance in SunSpider a score of ~3300ms on the Android browser and a ~1700ms in Opera 11.
Please tell me I'm not the only person who saw the first picture and had some MAJOR cognitive dissonance trying to figure out why the smartphone had a cassette deck built in.

I see so many smartphones with awful pic quality and 720p+ video that looks no better (even worse) than VGA video due to over zealous compression settings.
Please let me have the choice between being able to take 50 good pics or 500 crappy ones.
At my work, I have access to virtually every smartphone device popular today. I've yet to find a smartphone that takes pictures/videos as good as an iPhone 4.
Not kidding. While this will usually bring out a lot of anti-Apple haters and trolls. I've played around with so many Android, Blackberry, Symbian, and even good old dumb camera phones out there sporting 12Mpixel and 720p video.
I attribute the excellent picture taking and video performance to Apple's software.
It's such a joke these days that all these powerful devices with dual-core, super fast, and 8Mpixel cameras take grainy and muddy pictures. It's like looking at pictures with art filters FORCED ON.
I've got a 20 x 30 print from an 8 megapixel picture taken with my evo 4g. It looks damn good. Your point is taken, but I think you are exaggerating. Tell me what other phone on the market you can make a 20x30 print with and it look good in your living room.
Agreed. I'm an Android evangelist and own an Evo 4G (and the Evo 3D on preorder), but the iPhone 4 takes better low light photos than any non-cameraphone I've ever seen. The Evo 4G pales in comparison.

I plan to have an Evo 3D in my pocket the day it is released. If the power draw from the paralax barrier isn't that bad, the battery life on that thing has to be spectacular. And if now.... it is still a cool phone.
I agree I am actually very dissapointed that they did not leave the big batteryt in the sensation.
But the thing is most of the illogical people out there make the biggest deal out of the weight of a phone. like what is it going to tire you out lol? And so companies just dont like to put big batteries in because then they cannot claim it is RAZR thin and so on. If someone just I know people with all different phones including iphone4s and no one with a smart phone can get the battery to last all day easily if they use it much.
I'm glad my Sexy Nexy is standing up to the big boys! Although It lacks a dual core Cpu, it still ranks up there with latest and greatest. Ice Cream should be only 6 months off!!

Who gives a crap about 3D? Gives me a migraine anyway. The concessions HTC had to make in order to facilitate the 3D gimmick might make this a ridiculously awesome phone if the 3D can be completely disabled/excised.
That's what the switch is for... As for the dual cameras, they could be used for some really awesome low-light and HDR photography imo, but the proprietary driver that runs then will probably make it very difficult.
My Sony point and shoot super zoom has some modes that make use of it's unique burst speeds (CMOS) by combining shots taken at different exposures etc., plus an HDR mode that works in a similar fashion... Even on full auto you can set it to take two shots when appropriate (with and without flash).
It's all enabled by it's quick burst speed (compared to 90% of P&S) which allows quick capture of multiple images with different settings, the EVO 3D's dual sensors could be used towards the same effect imo.
I've been wondering... what is the resolution in 3D? The 3D screen of the 3DS renders images at 400*240 pixels, whether it's in 3D or in 2D mode (no visual loss in resolution, the handheld renders two 400*240 images for each eye in 3D (800*240 total)). From the article, I understand the EVO 3D works differently, and that there's a loss of resolution when 3D images are displayed (each eye gets 480 pixels instead of 960). I think that's what affected the Optimus 3D as well. Is it the case?
I also ordered this device from USA. But i need to pay extra than its actual price. It doesn't matter what i paid. But i am extremely happy to get this device.

The HTC website calls it Super LCD - in keeping with the blogosphere.At CTIA this year, they announced that the Evo 3D display was made by Sharp, and repeated it under follow-up questioning.
Sharp Super Mobile LCD panels are a variant of their ASV technology and are _not_ IPS.

Lenses on a 3-D camera need to be spaced at the normal human interocular distance: about 64mm (2.5 inches).These lenses are way too close together to produce correct 3-D. After 150 years of 3-D photography, how do they screw it up now?

You can get the GL Benchmark results for the SGS2 from the GL Benchmark website. I did several benchmarks when I got my SGS2.Sunspider = 3417.1
Quadrant = 3174
Linpack = 46.939
AnTutu = 4485
Browsermark = 53,938
Faster in most cases than the Qualcomm MDP 1.5.
