... its the PC version of a Hyundai/Kia !!! Five years ago, nobody wanted one. Now they are the best value for the money and , with this particular example, make a very solid board.
It looks like it might be an okay board for an over-the-top HTPC as well. It also looks like it takes 20-pin ATX as well as 24-pin ATX and 4-pin ATX 12v as well as 8-pin ATX 12v so power supply specifics shouldn't be a worry as they typically are with HTPCs. Only one way to find out!
I appreciate how ASRock focuses more on features than business-level stability. That and their competitive pricing makes them a good enthusiast brand. I'd love to play with this motherboard.
ASRock. They're not famous yet, but I think they deserve to be. From what I can see, they deliver cheap, credible products at a decent price... I'd love to experience that first-hand =D.
I initially discounted ASRock as a budget manufacturer, but they've proven to be very competitive with other enthusiast motherboards. Wouldn't mind taking one for a spin at all.

Free is the best, though I wonder if I will end up like the majority with just having had a fun time lining up for free stuff and having never gotten any. Still worth a shot though.

Thanks for 13 years of great material! I have to admit, one of my favorite things about the site is that you read the comments, and when someone asks a valid question or points out a legitimate error, you respond/ correct.
My desktop motherboard died a month ago and I'm typing this comment on: 900MHz Celeron (Coppermine), Intel 810 chipset, ATI Radeon 9200SE graphics (PCI card). This ASRock would make a sweet HTPC, which would also serve as my "main" PC.
I sold my gaming rig a year ago and haven't had the slightest inclination to build another. Until tonight. . . Figured I'd drop by old anandtech to see what was up in the enthusiast world, and lo and behold there's a mobo giveaway! Obviously this is a sign, right?
The LGA-1156 is a compromised, performance wise, version of the LGA-1366 motherboards yet in pricing they are similar. For a enthusiast website you need to highlight the differences more and convince the reader on what is better.
maybe? seems like there is actually a decent chance of winning one of these giveaways based on how many your doing and the number of posts to each one. Very exciting. My luck ill end up winning on the day your giving away a set of green cold cathode lights. lol.
I still need a new pc. It would be strange to base the whole thing around something I won on the internets but that is a compromise I am more than willing to make.
Probably dont need this, cause getting one would entail more money spent on upgrading other stuff like cpu, ram and power supply. But if I do get one, I will probably sell it off for some moolah!!!

As a Component Engineer, I was (pleasantly) surprised to see HM55PRO uses polymer caps. While the voltages have been rising with Polymer Caps this is the first I've seen it used in a "mainstream" application.

It looks like it might be an okay board for an over-the-top HTPC as well. It also looks like it takes 20-pin ATX as well as 24-pin ATX and 4-pin ATX 12v as well as 8-pin ATX 12v so power supply specifics shouldn't be a worry as they typically are with HTPCs. I could use this - been overdue for an upgrade for quite a while, and I'd be trying Intel again after many AMD uP,s.As a Component Engineer, I was (pleasantly) surprised to see HM55PRO uses polymer caps. While the voltages have been rising with Polymer Caps this is the first I've seen it used in a "mainstream" application.
