How many workers killed themselves to make this fan?

As far as I know Microsoft has always used Foxconn to build their Xbox 360's. :) It's kinda retarded to see it as a big "Applefactory" in media. It's really Dell who made the move to China possible for Foxconn. It's only the largest contract manufacturer in the world and among the top biggest companies in the world. How many life where ruined manufacturing the disastrous Xbox 360 with it's quality record? Who knows :P

Well, at least the workers dont have to worry about it killing them if it falls on them like big fat PS3 lol

$500 iPad being smashed on video > $300 Xbox

Definitely would be interesting to just twist it off

Anand, you're on pretty good terms with the guys at MS aren't ya... So why not just ask them for a photo of the naked die(s)? :D

There's no reason for them to hide any details, so it shouldn't be too hard to aquire a naked picture of the darned thing. It's not as if it's military secrets or anything! :P

    mmm, it probably is, actually.

they probably dont want to give out any more details than necessary.

I was thinking that the other day, consoles used to tout their specs, as recently as X360. We're rapidly approaching a day where it's all kept hush hush. It already is with Apple and Nintendo. Nintendo wont say anything about what hardware is in 3DS for example, nor Apple with iPad.

    Hey Anand,

Thanks a lot for the info on the fan! I was surprised to see a whole article put up on the home page on the IR receiver and the fan details.

    Regards
    Ganesh

Have you tried to take it off right after being used without the fan for some minutes?

It seems that they could move it somewhere where it is favorable than where it is now. However, if it comes in relation to price and availability of a product (in the case a fan) then it would really not surprise me at all. Companies try to cut corners when they can and cram as much as they can when they can. Its all about convenience for those companies and not necessary in the favor of consumers. Just where is that IR receiver at? Where the fan is? WTH?! Just my 2 cents. - BLUEBOY

Would help get the heatspreader off?

I wonder if any website will do a teardown that gets it off...

As the previous article shows, there are minor improvements in power consumption and noise levels with the larger single fan, but I don't care about noise levels. The issue I have is does this fan provide sufficient cooling? With lots of people complaining on amazon.com that their brand new Xbox 360 S is already red-lighting and breaking down, I wonder whether microsoft have messed up again by focusing too hard on lowering noise levels by using a larger fan and lowering fan speeds and not providing sufficient cooling for the singular, larger heatsink.

I'd like to see some comparison data on the operating temperatures of the valhalla and jasper and if the new xbox is indeed still running hot, a step by step tutorial of how users can simply mod their new 360s so that the fan is always at max speed
