Yes I am weak and went out and bought the Xbox 360 Holiday bundle at my local Future Shop. As I stated before the Manufacture date was August 29,2008, Team CSON, Lot#0834. When I opened it up I got a 175W brick (power supply) as well as the loudest Xbox 360 I have ever had. The console runs nice and quiet when a game is not being played however when I put in Fable 2 the system took off like a Boing 747. I went to the link that people have posted about the DVD drive list but no info is available about a manufacturer date of August 29, 2008 as of yet. I don't know if I have a Lite on Drive or those god forsaken Hitachi drives. The wife tells me " well, maybe its the fan working a lot more in the newer system to keep it cool". I don't know what to do..Take it back to Future Shop and wait for a newer console or keep just keep it. This will be my 5th Xbox 360. What do any of you think? Jasper? Not a Jasper? Crack it open and void the warranty:)

This is my story: I don't live in USA and I don't have Xbox support here. I just got my Red Ring of Death a couple of days ago on my 2nd console (this is a refurbished Xenon, manufactured on Feb07!!).
I will be traveling to USA in one week, so I am bringing my damaged console with me to send it for repair (sadly, I can't receive their pre-paid shipping box to send it, of course). I want to sell the refurbished console they would eventually send me and buy a newer console, aiming for a Jasper, of course!
Question for you guys: Given the fact that I don't live in USA and will travel in 1 week, my best chances to get a Jasper are:
a) buy online (ie: Amazon.com) one holiday bundle 60GB hoping it is new enough to be a Jasper, or at least one of the lastest Falcons, and get it shipped where I will go?
b) shop in retail stores during my travel and inspect the boxes/consoles myself looking for Jasper signs on the shelves?
Either way, I would like to have a newer console and bring it back home with me after this trip, as I don't have a choice to wait longer. What would you recommend? THANKS A LOT!

I must admit I am tempted to buy a holiday bundle myself. If I see yet another amazing deal it will be hard to resist. And I get the feeling this trend will continue with retailers scared to death about sales this holiday season.

My guess is it will start to show up after Xmas when they run out of all the old units. until then they will use up all parts as to not loose any fixed costs already in the books.

Received a call 10/21 saying my order was out of stock and delayed, but oddly it shipped later that day. Was initially optimistic thinking that if Dell went out of stock that would've raised my chances of getting a newer 360.
Sounds more and more like the Jaspers have not been released yet. But I should get the delivery today - will update on what I get.
Since Jasper's parts list will be significantly different from Falcon and any other previous Xbox360 incarnation, there WILL be a very noticeable serial-number break, so that service facilities wil be able to immediately identify a Jasper from the paperwork. An analysis of existing serial number patterns and their correlation to existing Xbox360 hardware versions is a huge missing hole in this article.
There will be a defined point at which there is a switchover, but until that switchover occurs, we can't say anything about the serial numbers or lot numbers that point to Jasper. Right now, we're still in the identifying the first Jasper stage. Once one has been identified, we can start looking for patterns that allow the rest of us to find one reliably.
I'm not sure there will be a "break" per se - at least if you mean a gap, which is what I take this to mean. That would be very hard to ID anyways without inside information.
In a couple months, the reliable way to do it will be by the power consumption listed on the console itself - 12.1A on the 12V rail. PSUs rated at 150W will show up at some point as well (possibly even later) and will be another reliable indicator.
