Unfortunately, there is, especially in the US, very little competition in that range. Hence, Qualcomm is not under real pressure to advance in this segment.
Typical Qualcomm; some welcome improvements (GPU!), but still no AV-1 decode and unnecessarily limited speed (memory bandwidth). A bit more headroom would allow manufacturers to use LPDD5 versions beyond 3200 MHz as they become even cheaper. Unfortunately, there aren't that many Android smartphones and tablets with upper range Mediatek SoCs available in the US, as that would give QC a bit more reason to up their game also in that performance bracket. So, typical Qualcomm. Just a little more, but still holding back.
The 7 gen3 and 7s gen3 seem really close to each other. The 7 has slightly faster prime core but the 7s has newer cores so the slight clock speed advantage may be mostly if not completely covered by the newer core design having improvements. Then the mid and little cores are same clocks but newer cores on the 7s so those will certainly be faster. The Wifi block seems to be the same thing on both. The 7 apparently supports Dolby Vision, probably on the decoding, and the Cell modem is 5gbps instead of 2.9gbps but otherwise they appear identical unless there are minor differences buried in the details Qualcomm isn't bothering to mention.
I gave MTK a chance because everyone was saying good things about their SOCs, but it's not worth it, the drivers are terrible, they generate bugs even when surfing the web. Plus, when connected to the mobile network, the battery drains very quickly, the device heats up as if it were melting, 200% less autonomy compared to wifi.
RDNA/Adreno are the only ones with decent drivers, and the qualcomm modem is the most efficient.

My 780G from 2021 is still on par with the Gen 2, let's see if finally there is a faster Snapdragon in this segment.eastcoast_pete - Tuesday, August 20, 2024 - link

Sometimes it's better to buy a smartphone with an older better SoC than always opt for the latest.Dante Verizon - Wednesday, August 21, 2024 - link
