Seriously, I think Noctua is at the top of the game but I can't imagine this dramatically outperforms a Peerless Assassin (which is 1/4rd the price) if equipped with the same fans. After all, the Assassin (depending on the reviews as they are really all over the place) effectively ties the D15 across the board, and GN shows it topping every other air cooler they've tested.
After adding $80 of fans you're effectively comparing $115 and $140 solutions, I'd expect them to be reasonably closer in performance at that point. Probably a narrower gap if you can wait a few months for this model to start being discounted a bit.
I'll definitely be getting one for my 1851 build but with Intel announcing a new Reduced Load ILM for that cpu we'll have to see what version of their mounting that Noctua recommends for that cpu and ILM combination. Theoretically it should be the LBC version with the Reduced Load ILM but I'll wait for Noctua's final verdict on that.
Why do you want to buy a flawed socket and then rely on these weird socket solutions like Contact frame, Noctua's new concave/vex designs. Intel dropped ball on their ILM engineering. No amount of bending of the heatsink plate will fix the CPU bending. Skip and get AM5.
Worth the price and more. I have an original NH-D15 that I bought in like 2014 which I still use today on my 9th build. Noctua's support is amazing. They even shipped my first new interface adapter for free. $150 for 10 years of service and still going strong with original fans.
I emailed Noctua about the bracket on my cooler blocking one of my memory slots. They sent me a new bracket, for free, from Germany, to the US, complete with a shipment notification via email in german.
When it comes time for a new cooler, I know where I'll be going.
🙀Whut?! A FLAGSHIP?!!! Sign me up for like a zillion of them because it's the biggest and bestest boaty ship in the entire fleeeee....oh wait, it's a cooling device for a computer and has nothing to at all to do with ships.
Flagship is a term used to mean "Our highest-end product" or, "the highest-end product of its type". This is not a misuse as it has been part of the lexicon since at least the 50's. Other sailing terms in common use include, "Against the wind", "Dead in the water", and "Cast off".
Peaches is the biggest troll on Anandtech, these days. I think it used to be just an anti-gamerz thing. Lately, I think few articles are safe from her acerbic cynicism and selective literalism.
Good to have a reliable Air Cooler over the new RGB nonsensical mess of AIO with rotting water and liquid damage risk. I have DH15 with Chromax and the heatsink plates to make it look good. I wonder when they will launch the Chromax versions, same for the fans as well.

This pricing is crazy. I'll wait for the reviews. For funsies, slap two $40 NF-A14x25 fans onto a peerless assassin 140 and see how well it does.

how about older then that ? noctua sent me a bracket for socket 1366 when i asked and showed proofmeacupla - Friday, July 5, 2024 - link
It looks like it uses the same noctua mount spacing, so I would assume it fits.Samus - Friday, July 5, 2024 - link

That's a bit absurd. Everyone knows what the term 'flagship' means.PeachNCream - Thursday, July 4, 2024 - link
It is a term used when you fail to stick to factual product representation and have scavenged the thesaurus for embellishments.Sivar - Thursday, July 4, 2024 - link

Big brain challenge for you - type "anandtech flagship" into google and see how pervasively overused it is for a good laugh.BvOvO - Friday, July 5, 2024 - link
Nah, this is a correct usage of the term flagship. You should stop digging...PeachNCream - Friday, July 5, 2024 - link

You're really going to comment on that and not on all of the asinine "teases" headlines that are so big these days?PeachNCream - Sunday, July 7, 2024 - link
I wouldn't recommend that sort of criticism. They're sensitive about that and are likely to delete things along those lines.Oxford Guy - Monday, July 8, 2024 - link
I doubt it. The entire tech writing community seems to be fine with "teases" nonsense these days. I wonder who started it.Silver5urfer - Sunday, July 7, 2024 - link
