And the nice thing about it is one doesn't have to worry about any hostile country invading stealing the crown jewels, and disrupting the world for...ego.
They could take Seoul with a massive number of ground troops, but then they would lose horribly, unlike China, North Korea can't win.
South Korea has way more people and way better technology, BOTH. North Korea would lose the Air, and the Sea (and Navy ships are way more powerful now compared to in the past, the US could attack North Korea indiscriminately from the coast) and the troops would starve.
China isn't exactly in a position to win either. Questionable military technology, lack of combat experience at all levels of their military, essentially no force projection capability. China is well behind Russia in military capabilities and we all see how well Ukraine is going for Russia.
China and Russia are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Putin is a bully who responded to the right-wing excesses of capitalism not with left-wing regulation, but with far-right control through violence. He was satisfied with a kleptocracy so long as the violence percolated all the way down. He has no concept of how to manage an economy to create wealth, he only knows how to threaten people. The result is an economy that can't produce anything and cannot supply troops 10 miles outside its borders.
China, OTOH, is concerned only with wealth. It is completely focused on efficient results. Where Russia has spent the last 50 years decaying, China has exploded in industry, and the leadership keeps everyone on the exact same page as far as growth is concerned. No COVID denialism, no flat earthers, no climate change skeptics, no religious extremism -- the stupidity is silenced so the only viewpoint is that of progress.
China knows where its threat would be coming from, which is why they have an antiship missile defense that is quite possibly impenetrable. They don't need to be able to defeat a Desert Storm coalition on their border if the coalition can't get within 2000 miles of them. While the efficiency of their land forces is in question, they have size on their side. They have the logistics expertise to send goods from every corner of their country to every corner of the globe, so they have the capability to resupply an army that has learned from its mistakes. While you can never count out incomprehensible lack of sense, they at least have the foundational elements in place to sustain a powerful offensive.
you are totally right. that s why USA should de-escalate, foster on-shoring, invest r&d and nurture alliance (nurture not exploit like today). we will soon enter a 3rd WW from a weak position, entirely caused by idiots at the White House
You are right, we should have embraced the dictator who tried to steal back an election and led a coup against the voted representation of the entire country. Why do conservatives and liberals both blame everything on the White House when they are not in power? Congress has by far the most power over the United States. The Commander in Chief can't declare war without their approval, he or she can't even set a budget without their approval. Meanwhile, the silent majority sits wondering when the two distant sides will come together and work toward the common good.
China have widespread corruption as well. While the comparative level is likely much less than Russia's, it is compounded by a need to save face.
Equipment might not exist or be in a good state not because someone has sold it, but because the targets weren't realistic and achievable. To tell a superior that would at best prevent promotion (in whatever organisation and the CCP), so subordinates simply lie and the superiors know no better.
Then there's China's fragile economy and it's vulnerable borders. It has pretty much no neighbours who don't have issues with it.
China has occupied territory belonging to its neighbors. This is not 1900s this was in 2000s, and said they will ignore the international court, because the international countries cannot make them. And you think China is not a bully? Russia at least was giving a reason, China is literally going because we can. Also China's rise is not due to some brilliant government work but because US and EU propped them up since the late 1960s, moving manufacturing into China.
Honestly not clear which country is more stable, but I think China is more visionary than N. Korea. I know the bar is pretty low but Taiwan is in a much better position in that respect than S. Korea. Seoul is almost on the border! Also N. Korea has almost nothing to lose unlike China.
Ding! Wrong! Apple’s entire product range would fit on a kitchen table, but Samsung’s market capitalisation is about $300 billion, compared to Apple’s market capitalisation of $2.7 trillion.
These are slightly fake numbers anyway, and very different companies as Samsung makes everything from giant ships to tiny reed valves but the reality is Apple could probably buy Samsung outright with just the spare cash in Apple’s bank account.
Revenue might be a better measure. Apple sold around $400 billion of stuff last year, and Samsung sold around $250 billion of stuff, which is probably a fairer picture than comparing market values.
Congratulations to Samsung anyway for building this giant R&D plant, it’s exactly what the world needs. And it costs more than many national governments would be able to afford.
Looking at R&D spending, Samsung spends about $15 billion per year while Apple spends about $10 billion a year. So this is one area where Samsung clearly beats Apple, spending more in total and also spending about 3x more as a % of revenue. (However this R&D is spread over the thousands of goods they make whereas Apple’s $10 billion is 100% focussed on just the few items they sell.)
Guys, North Korea has zero air force while SK has a very, very one. Malnourished troops with limited fuel can't do shit with hundreds of advanced jets dropping bombs on them.
