I embrace our post Peak RGB world.

MSI VRMs running a bit warmer than the competition seems to be pretty normal.
I just wish they would use heatsinks with more surface area.
  • erinadreno - Wednesday, January 19, 2022 - link

agree. People have figured out they should use finned aluminum/copper as heatsinks on CPU. Why couldn't they apply this knowledge on to the VRM
  • olde94 - Wednesday, January 19, 2022 - link

yeah it's almost as if larger surface area helps!
  • Oxford Guy - Friday, January 21, 2022 - link

Tons of boards in the past had VRM sinks with lots of pure metal fins. Some even had copper heatpipes to connect to multiple heavy-duty highly-finned sinks.

    no RGB? Sold!

You know you can just turn most RGBs off...right?

No RGB is good, but its still far more sensible to buy a budget computing equipment which is already RGB-free and use modest hardware for much lower cost and then you can squirrel away the difference in cost to upgrade more frequently and leap ahead in performance without bothering with overclocking, high wattage PSUs, or loads of waste heat. Or just set your expectations a bit lower and find a way to kill time on lesser, more efficient hardware. For instance, I still do most of my gaming on a Celeron n3060 in a purple HP Stream 11 running Linux and kill off just as many hours being just as amused as someone that spent vastly more money and feeds orders of magnitude more power to their PC. - And I don't have RGB lighting AND I can easily take my computer somewhere else with me rather than being stuck in a fixed location with a stationary, wired-to-the-wall desktop.

What kind of games do you play?
  • PeachNCream - Monday, January 24, 2022 - link

    I'll try to TL;DR it a bit.

The titles I waste the most time on currently are

Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead (curses version, though the GUI variants are fine as well)
Dwarf Fortress - Mainly Adventure Mode, but sometimes I fail a fort or two
    Endless Sky
    Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup

Emulators (yes I own physical copies, thanks ebay)

    Under Mednaffe/Mednafen
SNES, Genesis, GBA, GBC - Various ROMs

Nintendo DS (1st gen, not 3ds) emulation under DeSmuME

DOSBox to support TES Arena & Daggerfall, Frontier First Enounters, Mater of Orion 1 & 2, MS FlightSim 4, Ultima 1-6

Of course I don't rely on the 32GB of internal storage in the little laptop and have a 128GB MicroSD card mounted as /home for user storage to handle that and a lot of other stuff. in the past 2(?)+ years I've never ejected the poor thing by accident, but I'm waiting for the day when I have to hold down the power button and grumble while the file system is checked for integrity on boot after doing that.

I hate it when the weather is too hot, I get sweaty and my working results drop dramatically.

I'll take MB's with no overclocking for under $200, sense all of your benchmarks don't show any real world difference. Pumping in 450+ watts just for cpu and mb is ridiculous.

The five ssd slots weren't tested so we have no idea if there is any issues filling those up.

No USB 4 is a no go.

Not sure if the 2x 2.5 ethernet is a benefit to anyone actually buying this.

No Rgb lighting is a dream come true!!! I hate rgb lighting. It’s an cost added to pander gimmick hungry 4 year olds.

Got a 9854 XTU mark (https://hwbot.org/submission/4971256_ahadgis_xtu_2... air cooled, 4 p cores at 52, 4 p cores at 51, all e cores at 41, and core voltage offset of -117mz. Not sure why everyone thinks liquid cooling is a hard requirement, although granted I have a nhd15 and 6 fans, so I suppose for that price you could liquid cool anyway. Details here --> https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/tzzii9/fir...

Anyone else seeing good results with air?

The wattage/power limits can be set by changing the cooler style from water cooler (4096 watt) to boxed cooler (241 watt), once you do that the temperatures come down.
