Looks like this picks up some of the nice bits of the G15--better resolution, bigger touchpad, and flush microSD slot. Webcam addresses an old gap, and RDNA2 may even let you play games without the fans sounding like it's going to lift off off your desk (though not holding my breath there). Curious when it comes out and what reviewers say.

The 16:10 screen is certianly welcoming to see.

I wish for an option without a discrete graphics.
Give me a 3:2 15" laptop with AMD 6800HS with 32 / 64 GB with no discrete graphics.

Pretty sure that will be made available. Not sure it will be cheap. RAM expandability is becoming a luxury feature, like few others. Amen to 64GB RAM complementing 8 reasonable CPU cores in a very mobile form factor.

I don't think it's possible given the DDR5 situation, you'll pay $1000 for the RAM upgrade like Apple. And I don't think any other manufacture has the sales number to dare to charge people that much.

I think its time to replace the 720p cam with a 1080p one it it will cost what $25-35$ when bought in volume.

Rembrandt looks really good. Any laptops releasing in Q1 or all are Q2 or later. I would like to buy one for sure this year.

No HDMI 2.1 output, even though 6000 series support it? What gives, Asus?
  • Valantar - Thursday, January 6, 2022 - link

I was thinking the exact same thing. Both APU and dGPU should support HDMI 2.1 without problems, so there's little reason for the laptop not to expose this. (Though it's worth noting that at least their desktop APUs for two generations have "supported" HDMI 2.1 including motherboard ports, but are still limited to 2160p60 output over these ports.) I guess DP over USB-C continues to be the best solution here.

Probably you'd have to get an Intel + NV or Intel w/ integrated graphics to get 2.1 support for now.

I hoped that we will finally get Thunderbolt 3 in AMD laptop, huge disappointment AGAIN. Maybe at least there will be DP 2.0 for newer docking stations, but still much more costly than TB3.
We'll see how bad the pricing will be.

They're nice, but we will to see whether Alder Lake destroys AMD Ryzen 6000M or not. If it does, they might still be worth it but I hope that ASUS discounts them considerably compared to Alder Lake options.
  • Spunjji - Monday, January 10, 2022 - link

We can make some educated guesses already - "destroy" will probably not be an appropriate term for the performance advantages Alder Lake will have (under certain circumstances). Under sustained load or in terms of battery power, comparable Alder Lake and Ryzen 6000 designs should be within 10% of each other.
