i have been using a 3900x and x570 board and not ONCE have i heard the chipset fan. i even put a piece of paper in it ( like kids used to do with the wheels on their bikes and cards in the spokes ) to make sure it was working, and even then i STILL barely heard it. my the fans on my NH-D15 are louder.
all those that are complaining about a loud chipset fan, probably don't even have an X570 board, and just assume its loud because of the rep chipset fans have been given in the past.
Enthusiasts are the worst kind of people. They'll needlessly complain about anything and everything. Little wonder why the market increasingly refuses to cater to them.
Your use of the word is incorrect. Enthusiasts, even ones who want a silent PC, wouldn't complain if it was silent. What you're probably seeing are the comments from critics. Critics who are really bad at their work or maybe received a defective Chipset fan.
"Enthusiast ~ noun rare 1. an ardent and enthusiastic supporter of some person or activity 2. a person having a strong liking for something"
Thats because its meant to be installed in a 2U or larger chassis a several 80mm fans channeling air through those heatsinks. Its not designed for passive cooling.
I own(ed) the TRX40D8-2N2T which is the regular threadripper version of this board. Observations:
1. Takes 3-4 minutes to boot 2. Embarrassing bugs in bios such as misreporting fan headers 3. CPU unstable / runs 10-15 degrees hotter than other boards (3970X) 4. Chipset heatsink burning hot to the touch (needs a fan) 5. Only one bios revision available since inception but in beta status - they clearly have given up supporting this board. 6. Does not support UEFI HII if you have a RAID card for easy mgmt
One nice thing: they oriented the cpu socket so you can blow the air right out the back of the case with the server style coolers
DO NOT BUY
Such a great idea but the execution is incredibly disappointing
TRX40 Taichi. Had to give up the coveted IPMI and trade off for rock solid stability. Running an AIO cooler in a server rack which does make me slightly nervous. Oh well.

So, what's the second heatsink for? AMD only has one uni-bridge chipset.Mday - Monday, October 4, 2021 - link
Probably the Intel X550-AT2.Mikewind Dale - Monday, October 4, 2021 - link

I own the Supermicro ThreadRipper Pro board (the M12SWA-TF), and its chipset fan has a quite audible, high-pitched whine.Every other fan in my system is a Noctua, and I can hear the chipset fan above them all.

Me right now while using my 3900X+X570:"Oh right, this has a chipset fan..."
Seriously the only time I've ever heard or thought about a chipset fan was on my old A8N-SLI Deluxe where the fan died on a regular basis.

Seems one's going to lose a slot to a two-slot GPU. Even the slot at the board edge would be problematic.ajp_anton - Tuesday, October 5, 2021 - link
Is it news to you that a two-slot GPU will use up another slot? Or what did you expect?tyger11 - Tuesday, October 5, 2021 - link
A shockingly small number of USB ports on the back. WTF? A mouse and keyboard and that's it?Adam7288 - Wednesday, October 6, 2021 - link

@Adam7288;What did you replace the TRX40D8-2N2T with? I'm planning a TR build soon.

Not sure if Asrock is planning to release 2 different versions, but the Creator WRX80 was recently released and I just received mine. Building it this week! https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/WRX80%20Creator/inde...
