I had an Honor 9. Very good value, except Huawei's interpretation of Android is awful so I went the custom ROM route using OpenKirin. It was never quite right and support simply ended without warning some time ago (and I notice that the website is now down). Then the battery died, puffed up and pushed the back off the phone.
That censorship happens only to Chinese variants because that's the local law, looks like Lithuania got paid/bulling by US government to spread FUD. The big difference between China and US is that China only forces their laws and bans unto themselves unlike the US who tries to enforce them worldwide.
So you're ok with a foreign government having compromised the phones with the possibility that it has probably compromised it even further. We just haven't discovered it yet. You're unbelievable. You're basically supporting a nation that has been proven to steal i.p., some even on video. You're basically supporting a hostage taking nation. You're the problem with modern free society.

It's their society and whenever a foreign country intervenes it never ends up well - just look at Afghanistan. As for stealing IP, all governments did and/or do this including US, Germany, France, Japan, Korea so trying to play the moral high ground is not just useless but also hypocritical in this case.

What don't I know? Google has been a disgusting company for less time than China has been keeping its citizens under the close eye of the government and that is not an arguable fact, but Google is more widespread, more closely integrated into the lives of people, and its users are largely clueless and apathetic. Google also _could_ be made to conform to change as the EU has proven, but very little is done regarding that because there is a lack of will and a lack of interest. After all, who cares about what the four colored company giving me free e-mail and navigation is doing while we're all sucking on its service nipples when we can instead watch the latest show on Netflix?
I've also owned a Honor 9 for the past 4 years and I much prefer EMUI over any other skin, only ColorOS comes close to it in terms of feature richness.
Just this year I was forced to replace it because of the EMMC cells slowly dying, otherwise I would've still be using my Honor 9.
Custom roms be all: -Ten pages of people being amazed at how amazing the rom is -Twenty three pages asking for solutions for issues -Thirty two pages of people shouting
I find it ironic. US government went after Huawei because it has ties to the Chinese government. Now Huawei sold the Honor brand to the State owned entity and got unbanned.
