Looking forward to the new midrange silicon (Avant, iirc?). We're using both ECP5's and iCE parts today and have been very happy with Lattice's hardware. I just hope Avant has faster serdes - even something comparable to the 12.5 gbit lanes in the higher-end Kintex products would really expand what we can do with Lattice parts. (An RF guy I know insists regularly that what Lattice *really* needs is 18x25 DSP blocks, but I care less about that.)

Also, wasn't expecting to see Lattice on Anandtech today. That's one of the things that makes me like this site so much. :)

These dicksu... errm "marketing" articles should really be marked as an adverts.

Why haven't you asked any real questions ?
Like:
- They have "presented" quite a few series ( Certus/Certus Pro etc) _quite_ a while ago, but no chips are to be seen anywhere. Has he the one that came from AMD to teach Lattice the art of paper launches ?
- self-reprogrammability and reconfigurability are important "skills" of modern FPGAs, especially the ones that target IoT etc. When is Lattice to show us some of that ?
- so far they have acquired many separate tools, basically one for each family line. Many of them have to be licenced to cover interesting members and none work really well. Whe are we to see tool unification ?
- PCIe is becoming central piece of many everyday designs. And yet they require quite costly licence, ( which is time limited to boot).
- MIcrochip is stepping into FPGAs in serious way. I assume they will do something about the FPGAs/SoCs and tools unification. And probably merge new models with their microcontroller portfolio. What does Lattice intend to do to respond ?
-Microchip has introduced their first SoC with RISC-V. So far, these are big models with capable 64-bit cores, but we are certainly going to see small, low-cost models. Only thing the Lattice has are their soft-cores. So, is there something new to be seen ?
-Microchip is preparing new models with variable speed SERDES for new cheap mmbers that will allow cheap FPGA to be used with say PCIe v4x1. Only thing Lattice has to show is couple of "paper" models that can do PCIe3. None of them is really accessible, much less cheap.

Been watching Lattice for a long time. Glad to see them getting their act together. They seem to be on the right path.

Yeah, it’s been a few years but they always seemed to be last choice. It was Xilinx and Altera if you needed serious FPGA resources and good tools. Actel always had their niche (instant on, low power, NSEU mitigation) that you were willing to put up with their inferior tools. Lattice burned more than a few engineers and I can only think of some CPLD’s we used them for. But now I’m cheering for Actel (Microsemi) and lattice now that Altera and Xilinx are bought up. I don’t think these mega-corporations are good for America or technology in general. We need some scrappy underdogs to step up.

The goal of interviews like this is 99% introducing the readership to something they might not have thought about or know much about. These are very much REAL questions that a lot of people who haven't looked into Lattice before might be interested in. Think late-night talk show host stuff.

If I'm going to do a technical interview, it's going to be with a company the audience knows. Otherwise they won't care who it's about if they don't understand what the company is about, who the people are, and how they think.

If you think this is marketing then I can tell you don't work in marketing or the press. But for as much as I appreciate the input, if you didn't like it, then there is other stuff for you to read.

Also, his comments on Lattice development being "fantastic" are a bit lame.
When they need them to claim so themselves, you can tell that it hasn't been all that fantastic.
Here is something from their truly fun and fantastic times:

Thanks for sharing, Ian. Lattice is on a tear! Love seeing the scrappy underdog doing good things.

It's a shame there wasn't a question on his views on the role open source toolchain efforts have had on the popularity of some of lattice's products.

Icestorm and now the whole ecosystem of tooling around it are some of the main reason the ice40s are popular around the circles I'm in.

It seems right now Lattice tolerate the projects, would be good to know if the people at the top understood their importance - especially with all the talk of making it easier for developers.

Looks like an interesting project and props to the people who made it, but this looks like a solution looking for a problem. I don’t see why any commercial company that would buy a significant number of parts would use it. Tools matter a lot in this domain and the expectation is Lattice brings high quality first party tools and IP to the table. I wouldn’t want to bet my engineering career on kludgy, reverse engineered knockoffs.

I have read this article and I think the most important topic should be picturized and people know about it, same this situation I have seen the movies in subdl, they have provided a very good quality picture and the most popular movie this is.
