I must confess, I'm used to reading about Intel's new chipsets which seem to come every year.
That being said, I thought that they would optimize the design for lower power usage at the very least. It is said that the x570 chipset is always running at maximum power draw even when not in use.
Would you rather they release new chipsets without any significant changes every year like Intel does? Intel Z170 to Z490 generations are all basically the same with only a few electrical changes to prevent you using the newer chips on older boards.
As per ASUS, this is only a TDP reduction with optimized AGESA code. That's their official statement. And for the new chipset, how is it possible unless you change the I/O Matisse die from 12nm to something else, say TSMC 7N ? They wont do that at all, esp when EPYC also uses the 14nm die.
Is there a new stepping ? That I donot know, I hope they do since the USB bs problem is not going away on Ryzen 5000 processors, but even when paired with B550 and X470 that is happening.
Idk gotta wait for them and people's experiences or get Intel if anyone wants to build right now.

Hmm, I were kinda hoping that the refreshed boards would bring refreshed audio solutions, akin to the Z590 boards, and not the ALC897. :PThen again this is ASRock and clearly not the high end offerings.

What a joke. 897 audoi on a mid range or higher board in 2021???ballsystemlord - Thursday, June 3, 2021 - link
So, for a third year in a row we will be on X570? I was thinking it is time for an update by now.meacupla - Thursday, June 3, 2021 - link
okay, so what updated features would you want on it?DDR5 support is coming with a new "AM5" LGA socket

USB4 maybe?DigitalFreak - Friday, June 4, 2021 - link
Nah, none of that will come until Zen 4 / x670, unless someone uses a 3rd party controller.Flunk - Friday, June 4, 2021 - link

Feels like the article should've mentioned the GPU support bracket.29a - Friday, June 4, 2021 - link
"Both models also come supplied with ASRock's patent-pending VGA holder."You mean like that?

Still no thunderbolt or usb4 or upgraded audio codecs. Wait for AM5.HideOut - Friday, June 4, 2021 - link
Theres tons of upgraded audio. But AScrak would rather insult us with this garbage and charge to much for it.Chriz - Thursday, June 3, 2021 - link
Is the X570S even an updated chipset or are motherboard makers just rebranding the existing X570?Gigaplex - Thursday, June 3, 2021 - link
It's a new chipset revision that consumes less power, features are otherwise the same.Silver5urfer - Thursday, June 3, 2021 - link

That's interesting, an article I read a while ago mentioned it was a new revision. If it is a new stepping, I'd still consider that a revision, as it does mean the hardware is physically different (no matter how minor).
DigitalFreak - Friday, June 4, 2021 - link
No matter if it's a new 'revision', stepping, or whatever, the only change the end-user will care about is that it no longer requires a fan.bigboxes - Saturday, June 5, 2021 - link
