Is this a sponsored ad for a card that does not exist yet? It should be put if that is the case.. :D
  • Yojimbo - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

Just because lots of people want the card doesn't mean the card doesn't exist.
  • Alistair - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

can't take a joke? 7th week since launch and less than 10 percent have gotten one
  • raywin - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

100% of reviewers and influencers got one, oh you mean the rest of us....
  • Yojimbo - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

How is a factual inaccuracy being bandied about as if it's true a joke? You have no idea what percentage has gotten one, but what difference does it make, anyway? Lots of people are getting the cards, obviously.
  • raywin - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

yep, you're right, nvidia won't release any numbers. "Unprecedented demand" or paper launch, i mean this is the third time in a row they can't meet demand, eventually you have to call BS.
  • Kurosaki - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

But still, they can launch cards with game bundles! :D HAHAHA!
  • loopery - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

Eventually INVESTORS will want to know the numbers -- a number they have the right to know. It's a real potential lawsuit against Nvidia for making false claims in terms of supply & demand.

The greater the demand, the more an investor would want to invest. If Nvidia is bluffing on the demand, the lawsuit will not ;)
  • Yojimbo - Monday, November 2, 2020 - link

loopery, yes, finally someone saying something sensible.
  • kludj - Saturday, October 31, 2020 - link

I feel very confident we can write off the "unprecedented demand" excuse; it was a paper launch. Amazon has a grand total of 90 reviews on 3080s across all brands a month and a half after launch. Many of these are joke reviews without the "verified purchase" tag. Cards which do appear on Amazon are waaaay over MSRP; I haven't seen a 3080 checking almost every day, but 3090s occasionally show up at $2.2k-2.6k.
  • Yojimbo - Monday, November 2, 2020 - link

All the 3080s i see listed on Amazon are through the Asus store, and listed as unavailable. How do you know how Asus chooses to sell their cards? Newegg has 432 ratings, and the typed in reviews that I've checked out are verified. The 3070 reviews are starting to coming in now, as well, so that number is likely to go up significantly.

There's very scant evidence that the supply is low. And it's easy to see it's not a "paper launch". The 2080 launched Sept. 20 and first showed up on the Dec. Steam survey (published in January). The 3080 launched Sept. 17, about the same time. The 2070 and 3070 both launched Oct. 29. The 3070 also first showed up in the Dec. list with .17% share of all cards. Now we live in a time where there are much more people gaming with very old hardware than before, because of the coronavirus, but I'd bet that the 30 series still bests those marks and the Jan. marks of .31% and .33%, respectively, for the 20 series cards. Let's see.
  • Yojimbo - Monday, November 2, 2020 - link

Why would NVIDIA release numbers? Obviously it's not a paper launch. There are hundreds of reviews up on newegg. Or are you claiming they are fabricated? The world is going insane... You need facts to make claims, otherwise you're just a scrub.
  • liquid_c - Saturday, October 31, 2020 - link

10%, you say? Citation? Link? Something reliable, that is.
  • colonelclaw - Saturday, October 31, 2020 - link

That information is clearly hard to come by, but here's something interesting: https://www.scan.co.uk/shops/nvidia/rtx-30-series-...
FYI Scan are one of the largest suppliers of PC components in the UK. For the 3080 they haven't even been able to fulfill 10% of current pre-orders per week. They had to close preorders a few weeks back. So whatever way you look at it don't bank on getting a card any time soon.
Yes I know this isn't a citation, but it's the best I could find, and it is reliable.
  • Kamus - Sunday, November 1, 2020 - link

    far less than 10%.
  • Yojimbo - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

And I'd expect an even harder time getting these cards going forward now that Europe is re-instituting mass lock-downs.
  • blckgrffn - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

So they are going to bundle in several hundred copies of Call of Duty between now and early December? Sweet.
  • inighthawki - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

    Dont you mean dozens?
  • blckgrffn - Saturday, October 31, 2020 - link

    lmao. Maybe? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • lowlymarine - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

Cool, I look forward to them actually launching the RTX 3080 & 3090 cards themselves at some point.
  • raywin - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

    do not hold your breath
  • SteveX107 - Sunday, November 1, 2020 - link

    I can't breathe
  • prophet001 - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

I mean do they really need to incentivize sales of this card?
  • raywin - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

nope, which makes the promotion all the stranger
  • DigitalFreak - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

Well they probably had this promo deal with Activision set up months ago. The fact that the new 6800XT & 6900XT cards can match or beat the 3080 & 3090 is probably another reason.
  • FwFred - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

Too late for me with my 3080 order, would have rather had CoD. Don't know anything about Watchdogs but will give it a try.
  • Yojimbo - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

Don't you know you didn't get one?
  • FwFred - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

I followed Discord/twitter stock bots and was quick on the draw. Best Buy order gets here next week.
  • Yojimbo - Monday, November 2, 2020 - link

Impossible. It's a paper launch. (I'm being sarcastic)
  • ridic987 - Wednesday, November 11, 2020 - link

I know 3 people with them, Including myself, and I only know like 5 people total.
  • coburn_c - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

Maybe they can work a deal where they send you the game code now and you get the card in 8-10 weeks.
  • raywin - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

    lol, hope springs eternal
  • Dug - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

    Yay! A 250GB download for a card I can't buy.
  • Zharoc - Friday, October 30, 2020 - link

The game will be selling for half price by the time the cards are in full channel
  • milkywayer - Sunday, November 1, 2020 - link

More like there'll be trailers for next year's CoD by then and as is trashy activision tradition - there'll be wall hacks and aimbots rushing every server with activation zero effs since they'll be raking in $$ for next year's ore orders.
  • eastcoast_pete - Saturday, October 31, 2020 - link

What were they (NVIDIA) smoking when they cooked up this idiocy? This shows that AMD seems to really have gotten them scared, and doesn't bode well for NVIDIA. Bundles are usually used to boost sales of available cards without lowering the prices - but those cards are simply not available. That leaves concerns over pricing and being competitive - well, if Big Navi is really more bang for the buck, then buying a 3000 series RTX card in current configurations (memory) at current prices would be a loosing proposition, free game or no free game! Instead of NVIDIA's marketing team wasting time and effort cooking up this useless scheme, Huang & Co should have committed resources to solve the supply bottleneck, and maybe launched the "Super" cards with more VRAM soon. In the meantime, if it's for gaming, don't buy - wait for Big Navi tests to come out, and make an informed decision then!
  • philehidiot - Tuesday, November 3, 2020 - link

I think Nvidia have seen what AMD have done to Intel under Lisa Su and know they are next on the list. What they should have done in my view is take the Valve approach.

"We don't care what the competition are doing, we are making a quality product and we will release it when WE are ready, not when the competition dictates. If you want to buy an AMD card, because that is what is available, go ahead. We will release soon enough and it will be awesome. Your choice."

Then, you work on ensuring things like capacitors and proper testing aren't areas where things go wrong. You get it on the right process and you release something that is actually properly baked, rather than riddled with engineering compromises and things put in place because "we don't have time to test it, but we reckon that'll work".

You also send a powerful message to people. GPUs are rarely components you have to upgrade to play a certain game these days, unless you're new to PCs or are using a very outdated card. We are told the next big thing is just around the corner but what if we were told "it's gonna be good, but we won't rush something out just for sales. We care about having the best product that won't fail you. You just have to be patient if you want the best".

I recently went to measure myself for a set of boots. They are being hand made to order based on 3D scans of my feet. I've had boots from this company before and they are awesome for someone who spends all day in them. They also bull to perfection. But, they take 6 weeks to 3 months to come through. That "if you want something properly built, you have to wait" is instinctive in us and there's a deep knowledge around the delay of gratification. We all want it and want it now but it seems and feels cheap.

Nvidia should be asking "do you want a quick wank or tantric sex?".
  • ToTTenTranz - Saturday, October 31, 2020 - link

Wow this is great news for the whole 12 people that will be getting these cards within the next 3 months.
  • Hxx - Saturday, October 31, 2020 - link

The first time in many years when I actually want both the game and the card not just the card and there are no cards to purchase .Oh the irony so I ended up grabbing my game copy from GmG and just like most pc gamers I plan on holding onto my current card (a 2080) until 3k becomes actually available to buy .
  • Bp_968 - Saturday, October 31, 2020 - link

Glad I got mine a few days ago. I got the watch dog bundle which I might actually play. I'd never have played this game, free or not.

"NVIDIA Launches Star Citizen/Half Life 3 Bundle for GeForce RTX 3080 & 3090 Cards"
  • ExarKun333 - Monday, November 2, 2020 - link

Nvidia could give a free laptop with all their 3080s and 3090s sales. Why? Because they are selling so few!
  • Yojimbo - Wednesday, November 4, 2020 - link

There are already 472 ratings for the 30 series on Newegg, and only 30 ratings for the newly-released 3070 so far. You can expect that to climb quickly since the 3070 was released less than a week ago. They seem to be selling an awful lot of them, at least through Newegg.
  • Roy2002 - Monday, December 7, 2020 - link

If you cannot find a place to buy one, what's the point of this bundle?
