... just when I thought there was already more than enough Power & Fury in the world!
(no, I do not want to trigger a political discussion here - just a joke on the naming)

All it makes me think about, is this:

    Ahh, the good old times...

Thats just sad... no Renoir, 10th gen Intel
  • creed3020 - Tuesday, September 1, 2020 - link

Yeah very upsetting to see no changes in mobile offerings which totally ignore the whopping performance potential. There is a strong possibility that these design wins were done well before Renoir was available for qualification.

Not even real 10thn gen, rebadged 9th gen.... more like rebadged 6th +++++

In HP's defense, the market these types of devices are targeted too requires a great deal of validation. These are highly customized machines with solid firmware.

IIRC Razer's Studio Edition Blades were released last year, with largely the same specs.

Hello! I am looking for a laptop with a powerful processor (I plan to do web development). I choose between these processors https://vsrank.com/en/intel-core-i7-7700hq-vs-inte... Is it worth overpaying for Intel Core i7-10750H?
  • Valantar - Tuesday, September 1, 2020 - link

Considering the target market, the choice of Intel CPUs is a real letdown. Sure, it's probably a challenge to get various ISV certifications with an AMD APU, but performance and power draw would still be miles better.

Do you mean 18.6mm instead of 28.6mm?
  • benedict - Tuesday, September 1, 2020 - link

    No AMD, no buy.
  • duploxxx - Tuesday, September 1, 2020 - link

its business market , they buy anyhow, blind as usual just based on what the presales offer.....
  • PeachNCream - Tuesday, September 1, 2020 - link

Read that as "Power and Furry" and was briefly horrified. Fury is sort of a stupid branding for a computer anyway though at least it isn't covered in armpit hair or some gross looking face beard thing.

Yet another high powered laptop that has sacrificed good cooling for looks. A laptop that needs a 200 watt PSU needs to be thicker than 1.06 inches for the cooling system to be quiet.
This laptop has also got a very poor camera system - 720p in 2020 ??? A quick look on eBay has new Android phones at under £36 with far higher resolution (5M pixel vs the 1M pixel of this laptop). As one of the business uses of the camera in a laptop is to record or send images of a document, this inadequate camera is a letdown - it probably saved less than $1 from the manufacturing cost.

Poor HPE.... still relying only on the roadmap of Intel... chickens that will pay the price
  • just6979 - Tuesday, September 1, 2020 - link

    Let's analyze the presser pics:

    * Pro: Get this laptop and you can solder stepper motors without any solder present!
    * Pro: High resolution display for showing mechanical models while you solder.
    * Pro: Connect it to 2 large displays and still want to use the built-in trackpad and display!
    * Pro: You can do CAD with keyboard only! And take notes at the same time!
    * Con: This laptop will force your external displays to look at your chest instead of your eyes.

Dumbass geek... presumes he knows better than marketing geniuses.

That's why they get the big bucks and corporate promotions, while you are and shall forever remain a peon.

    So it goes ;-)

Skip this and look up the HP Omen 15 Ryzen 2020 now that's got it all for right price
  • quorm - Tuesday, September 1, 2020 - link

What's more likely, next-gen intel closes the performance gap or next-gen AMD starts to get incorporated in more high end laptops?
  • Spunjji - Wednesday, September 2, 2020 - link

Definitely the former. Tiger Lake finally gets Intel to where Ice Lake was meant to be, and it'll be a little while before AMD's response arrives in the form of Cezanne, so there will actually be something like parity again.

If 18 months of increasing competition capped off with the 6-month-telegraphed arrival of a truly superior product wasn't enough to get OEMs on board, then their thought processes aren't really based on what's best for the customer (or their own products).

People criticized Apple (and surely now Dell (XPS)) for going all USB-C. IMHO, having four identical ports that do everything is far better than seven different ports.
The 720p webcam is a joke.
16:9 display aspect ratio on "professional" laptops? LOL
  • Spunjji - Wednesday, September 2, 2020 - link

I'll happily take my multiple ports that I can actually plug things into on my professional laptop, thank you.
Same goes for a 720p webcam on, again, a professional laptop.
    "But muh 16:9" :|
  • yetanotherhuman - Wednesday, September 2, 2020 - link

Not even Ice Lake, let alone Renoir. Comet Lake? Forget it.
  • s.yu - Thursday, September 3, 2020 - link

Yup. Total joke at this point.
