Oh, look. A dual core Intel at $500 with a 768p screen and a quad core at $750, both in single channel mode. Who really needs 6-8 core AMD chips, at the same prices and TDP that obliterate these pathetic chips?
As funny as this exchange was, I am genuinely surprised someone can live this far under a rock and not be aware of 15W TDP chips from AMD. This has been a thing for a long while even before Zen cores came out so while modern Ryzen is good stuff, there were poorer performing, older designs that fit the 15W TDP envelope.
That's obviously an error in the article. The $750 has the 1080p screen. That aside, where are you going to get an AMD laptop running 6-8 cores at $750?
You can if you search for 2000 series u chips. Anyway Intel needs to quit this 2 core 4 thread thing, we have had dual cores for more than 10 years. It is time to move on.
I'd rather have 1 screen. 160 are quite many, even for a video wall. Sarcasm aside, are 768p screens really cheaper than 1080p screens these days? Or do they mainly serve to differentiate the spec sheets?
So I think 768p screens are awful and shouldn't be used. Playing devil's advocate, they might still be useful for increasing battery life. Especially with a painful 220 nits max brightness. Can't drain the battery quickly if you can't increase the max brightness lol
Sure, if you're blind, you might appreciate a 768p screen but that's what dpi scaling is for. I just don't understand as I really, REALLY thought that 1080p was now the standard.

technically it goes ~20-30W but intel does 54W to do same thing. so KINDA both of you....oh well, at least AMD does it at HALF of intel :)

Give me at least 16x10 screens, preferably 3x2, and I'll bite. But not 16x9.AdditionalPylons - Monday, April 20, 2020 - link

HP loves to upcharge quite a bit on the hi-res screen. The current Pavilion 15t charges $130 to upgrade from 768p to 1080p on a 15.6" screen.Holliday75 - Monday, April 20, 2020 - link
I honestly didn't know that rez was still used. Companies that use this on a laptop should be made fun of.ingwe - Monday, April 20, 2020 - link

Lenovo has curious discrepancy in their laptop description (they have 2 new ideapads with Ryzen 4000 series).Generic spec mentiones FHD 16x9 screen starting with 250nit TN.
Actual selection (at least on German site) is with 16x10 and starts at 300nit IPS.
Looks like a last minute change.
Specified battery life: 15 hours ^^. (70 wh battery)

It could be cost savings, or it could be the Ice Lake doesn't support some option.I'll look it up now, it's time for me to update my "10th Gen" cheat sheet, and it's been long enough that the details should be up on ARK.
Speaking of that site, I wonder when Intel will start censoring it?
