dunno if it truly counts as DFI if it doesn't have outrageous colors
  • drexnx - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

besides that, this looks like a cool product to put in a tiny STB

    Aww miss my Lan party.

Luminous orange and yellow slots and nearly-black PCB for the win!
  • ingwe - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

    Definitely a neat product!
  • mr_tawan - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

My credit card is only a few millimeter height though :-)
  • boozed - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

It's refreshing to see that something claiming to be "credit card sized" actually has the same footprint as a credit card, for a change.
  • DanNeely - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

How do 3.11x2.17" dimensions qualify as 1.8" formfactor?
  • Drizzt321 - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

Credit Cards are 3.37x2.125, so I'd say more or less the same. And 1.8" form factor, I wonder if that means height requirements. That RJ45 jack and underside of the board/etc might just make up that 1.8" height requirement.
  • close - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

That's what DFI says on their website so it must be it. Don't expect any added value in this articles. Deducted only.
  • ArtForz - Sunday, March 22, 2020 - link

    1.8" ATA HDD
  • ksec - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

I am starting to wonder what is the point of telling a product release without pricing?
  • drexnx - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

I wouldn't be surprised if this never has public pricing. Even DFI's website says to contact them for a quote
  • jordanclock - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

Pricing is probably highly contingent on volume. This is not something they expect to sell one or two to individuals, but dozens or hundreds to integrators.
  • Desierz - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

Does it need a heat sink?
  • drexnx - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

they list both a heatspreader part, and a heatsink part in their literature. says it includes the heatspreader, but the heatsink is optional. A 12w part would need a heatsink of some kind, maybe not an actively cooled one though.

Micro HDMI needs to die. Just put more USB-C ports with display output support.
  • The_Assimilator - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

Amen. I find it crazy that we still have HDMI in everything when DisplayPort is royalty-free.
  • PeachNCream - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

Its mainly because HDMI is familiar and more universally available so it has pushed into the PC industry and shouldered aside DisplayPort as the default video interface despite the royalties in much the same way that BluRay won as a format (sort of won if you ignore streaming being a thing now).
  • vladx - Saturday, March 21, 2020 - link

No thanks, until most monitors and TVs come with displayport I don't want to buy adapters.
  • SirKnobsworth - Sunday, March 22, 2020 - link

It's micro HDMI though, you need an adapter anyway
  • vladx - Monday, March 23, 2020 - link

No you don't, there are direct mini HDMI to HDMI cables, no adapter required when same protocols are used.
  • Threska - Friday, March 20, 2020 - link

Only one Ethernet, so no router-type duties.

Capable of HEVC and VP9 yet doesn't have 4K display output, that's just sad.
  • nandnandnand - Saturday, March 21, 2020 - link

HDMI 1.4 can do 4K at 30 Hz, or 60 Hz with Display Stream Compression. No HDR, I think.

Raspberry Pi did good by leapfrogging straight to HDMI 2.0, beating some of the competing boards like this one.

  • DanNeely - Saturday, March 21, 2020 - link

Do any monitors support DSC yet?
  • vladx - Monday, March 23, 2020 - link

Yep, HDMI 1.4 is not enough except for 23-25 FPS content.
  • zekehimself - Saturday, March 21, 2020 - link

    Single-channel RAM? Hard pass!
Any non-industry use can be thrown out.
I'm guessing even the industry has standards for memory access latency too so, time will tell.
  • Alien88 - Monday, March 23, 2020 - link

Seeing designers speccing single channel on a Ryzen makes me sad, could have been a useful board...
  • zodiacfml - Sunday, March 22, 2020 - link

Looks impressive but is going to cost like a similarly spec laptop
  • koaschten - Sunday, March 22, 2020 - link

Is my brain playing tricks on me or are the "top and bottom view" pics randomly flipped and mirrored and do not show the real board location in relation to the connector ports?!
  • Alien88 - Monday, March 23, 2020 - link

Yep, and they have labelled the eMMC as DDR4 and ignored the DRAM altogether. And the label for the APU is just missing. Don't know who did the images, but they need to be replaced...
