Really though? IPS response time is multiple frames at this refresh rate. Just check out tft central’s work. Pushing past 240 is great to see but it isn’t meaningful until in an OLED.
I don't get it either. If someone claims to notice a difference between 240 and 280 Hz, surely that kind of person would also notice the far starker difference in IPS and TN pixel transition times? Even fast(but bright enough for practical use) strobing is kind of borderline on the fastest TN panels at 240Hz.
You quote tft central but your facts are disporved by their most recent review. Check it out it is probably the same panel and it gets response times totally suitable for 240hz.
The latest IPS is about as fast as TN (4ms). 1ms means nothing, since you have to include overdrive error. Low error IPS is around 4ms and TN is around 3ms, so almost identical.
That data suggests IPS avg G2G is closer to double TN avg G2G than nearly identical. The best are 4.8 (IPS) vs 2.6 (TN). I wonder how worst case B2W response times compare.

That's exactly enough difference to be extra noticeable under strobing, though. The TN panels just about manage to finish transitioning before the backlight has to be switched on and the IPS panels can't manage that most of the time.

Most people mind strobing at 240+ Hz? I don’t even see regular people complain about christmas lights that are literally fed by unsmoothed half wave rectifiers. I happily play at 120 Hz with strobing. Motion blur is far more annoying than the perception of high frequency flicker.

I went to Best Buy to look at their gaming monitors. The image quality of the displays reminded me of the 19" Dell LCDs that I purchased over a decade ago. 1080p on a 17" display is simply gross.. These panels are fast but visually ... total garbage.

The IPS ones were already tested. Its basically a 144/165 Hz panel thats running at 240 Hz. The IPS technology cant cope and so they have to use massive (and very obvious) amounts of overdrive to reach 1 ms. When you want ghosting at normal (unnoticeable) levels, you have to run that panel at 3-4 ms level of overdrive, which is basically a generic IPS panel you were able to get for years.
