Does anyone know the difference between the spectre x360 and envy x360 lines? They seem to be almost exactly the same except that the envy is cheaper. They both have similar specs, sizes, build materials, ports, etc.
One has wood on it. One doesn't. Like the "ASRock X570 STEEL LEGEND" and "ASRock X570 EXTREME4". One looks REALLY ugly and costs $185 (on newegg currently), the other is nice looking costs $235 (on newegg currently). Go ahead, listen to buildzoid's youtube review of them (Hint: 29m https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG3DYE2uAys ).
Kind of what you'd expect going from mainstream to premium. More ports with TB3, significantly better battery life, nicer design. I'm not sure about the speakers or keyboard, but both are excellent on the Spectre for a laptop of its size. With that said, they're both great options. I wish Anandtech would review more HP devices as they definitely deserve a place in those best laptop guides.
Sounds good, on both the specs and pricing sides, but too close to next gen AMD APU release. I'll be waiting for that. (And for reviews of this, because the 14.5 hour battery life sounds too good to be true.)
I own the non-wood Envy 13 with Ryzen and 8GB of RAM. Unless they change something, this is incorrect. The memory is two 4GB sticks in dual-channel, so there is no "gimping" of the APU in this regard.
Hummmm, back in the day, I did this same treatment to an old Dell lappy left over from office upgrades....
I used pieces of thin laminate flooring, left over from when I had it installed in my mom's house. and used a dremel tool to cut out places for the touch pad & buttons, and beveled the edges to round over & eliminate the sharp sides....

The spectre is hp top of the line. Envy is high middle line. Personally, I don't see a huge difference that's why I have an Envy.FreckledTrout - Saturday, December 7, 2019 - link

I haven't seen any timeline for the new APUs. What makes folks say "soon"?Valantar - Monday, December 9, 2019 - link
Last gen launched at CES, so it's logical for the next gen to do so too.Targon - Monday, December 9, 2019 - link
I expect that the 8GB model comes as a single 8GB stick of memory for single-channel RAM, which cripples the performance of the machine.kyuu - Tuesday, December 10, 2019 - link
