But then where is your higher power budget for those more advanced ports? Or PCIe channels? USB 2.0 supports at least 2.5W (500mA at 5V). USB raises that to 4.5W (900mA at 5V), minimum.
Meanwhile there are plenty of lower-speed devices out there that you might want to stick into them.
I guess the argument there is that a larger device is more likely to be used in a "mobile desktop" fashion rather than untethered, and therefore the battery is of lesser importance.
Same here - very nice build quality, smooth performance (kid can play Fortnite just fine on it) and excellent run time. Imho, it's *the* Ryzen based laptop done right and deservedly sold very well.
Glad to see that they are offering the Intel and AMD based models in the same chassis.
Strange that the 'Intel Core i7-20510U' variant only comes with 8GB ram, whereas the i5 is the one that you can get 16GB with. Also is "i7-20510U" a typo mistake? Should it be "i7-10510U" (...because I can only find the latter on Intel's ARK.
It's almost certainly a typo. The first "2" of 20510U would suggest a full generation ahead (Rocket Lake?), not Comet Lake. Since that appears to be a typo the other odd specs reported by Huawei are also suspect. Someone compiled them sloppily.
That battery config is just stupid. The machine is wider, longer, AND thicker, yet that 2.5" drive takes up SO much space they have to significantly shrink the battery.
Who even wants spinning rust anymore? Get rid of that garbage and put in a 70+wh battery.
15" with smaller battery? why to accommodate the 2.5" HDD? I really hope they're joking here...
Core i7 is limited to 8GB and the 16GB RAM option is only for Core i5 and Ryzen 5? Where's Ryzen 7 and where's i7+16GB ?
And what about that 20510 model number ?
But seriously, With Windows 10 I wouldn't even think about any new system with 8GB of RAM, 16GB is the bare minimum now for me... they really should bump the lowest RAM from 8 to at least 12GB...
@Anton: What makes you think they only offer the Ryzen based model to reduce Intel supply risks?
The last Ryzen powered Matebook D sold very well afaik (was in the #1 spot for Amazon uk, de and fr), plus with Huawei having Pariah status in the US at the moment, financial incentives from Intel are most likely out of question.
So, what reason would Huawei have to not make more money by offering a choice ?

Hey Anton just wondering, is it just DDR4 not LPDDR4X?KWottrich - Tuesday, November 26, 2019 - link
Are you sure the 15" model has a smaller battery than the 14"? Or is that a typo?olafgarten - Tuesday, November 26, 2019 - link
That's what it says in the source link (the page isn't in English but it says 42Wh in the spec table.firewrath9 - Tuesday, November 26, 2019 - link

Why do they have a 2.5" drive these days? Why not a DVDRW!D14 looks like a way better purchase than the D15 because of this.
Also, why USB 2 on two of the ports? Surely better to have 2 USB 3 Type C and 2 USB 3 Type A.

These are really nice laptops. I have the previous gen with a Ryzen 2500u and couldn't be happier with the quality.Irata - Wednesday, November 27, 2019 - link

Also, why does the I7-20510u (which doesnt exist) only have 8GB of RAM available?timecop1818 - Tuesday, November 26, 2019 - link
Why do they bother bundling dgpu with absolutely garbage dim 1080p screen.I'd be 1000x more interested if this was 4K and 450+ nits
