    So stoked.

Lisa has had a busy summer:

    Computex keynote (5/27)
    E3 keynote (6/10)
    Epyc Horizon keynote (8/7)
    Hot Chips keynote (8/19)

I'd say she deserves the bonus she recently received.

I am much more worried about her increasingly amount of grey hair. I hope she is not overworked and retiring any time soon.

AMD will need a more visionary/future focused leader at some point anyway. QC is coming on strong and she doesn't seem to see the threat as serious.

    What’s up /WSB

I hope we get a threadripper announcement today.

Talk about some bad questions. The first two were legitimate. The next three were stupid. The last one about TR was legitimate until they kept pushing for a date she was clearly not ready to give.
  • Ian Cutress - Monday, August 19, 2019 - link

I was the one that asked that question. Everyone in the room laughed, including Lisa.
  • Thunder 57 - Tuesday, August 20, 2019 - link

I'm sure there was laughter, and I'm glad you got to ask one. I appreciate what you do and love how in depth into CPU's you go. I get that you have to be pushy sometimes, but she clearly wan't ready to give a time frame. You did extract a bit of info out of her though. I guess my complaint is that she got stupid questions, like quantum computing. And Crossfire? Where's the dead horse?
  • thelongdivider - Tuesday, August 20, 2019 - link

Both of those things are extremely relevant, though perhaps asked by someone not in the know. Quantum computing is extremely active research wise, though only practically for a select few. And for crossfire, nvlink does make a very strong impact for certain AI workloads, particularly convolutional. If amd comes up with a competitor, with all this interconnect talk on hand, that would be excellent news.

So can we call those supercomputer chips Enterprise APU's? EAPU's?
  • Gondalf - Tuesday, August 20, 2019 - link

A little boring keynote. All things she said are a summary of what the other companies already said since two/ three years ago (if not more).
As usual a lot of hipe about Epyc, but if we think carefully there is only the process advantage in the field, as other companies will shift on finer processes AMD shine will disappear fast.
The more intersting thing she NOT said is about software assistance.

For two or three quarters AMD will have the best cpu for cloud and HPC but this is only hardware and only in some segments of the market. What about the on site sw assistance from Big Tiers??
    As usual a big silence.
They can sell at a great price because their staff is small but this will be the huge limiting factor of their market share growth in server space.

She said nothing about actual AMD real issue. The company is too small to sustain their incredible mission to be great in both cpus and GPUs, in mobile-desktop-server spaces.
IMO Lisa is the worst AMD CEO in decades.
  • sa666666 - Tuesday, August 20, 2019 - link

Is that you, HStewart? Sure sounds like it.
  • boredsysadmin - Tuesday, August 20, 2019 - link

More like you, Gondalf is the worst commenter troll in decades. Lisa did nothing short of miracle bringing AMD from near death in gen-purpose CPUs to being the leader.
As for stretching short, Server/Desktop CPUs and GPUs are clearly the current priority. Mobile CPUs are there but not as power/performance efficient vs intel just yet. I strongly believe that they will be after the next refresh cycle.
  • parkerm35 - Tuesday, August 20, 2019 - link

You can always tell a troll by their illiterate comments.
  • Xyler94 - Friday, August 23, 2019 - link

If you experience growth, you hire more people if it's sustainable. That's super easy to understand. If demand starts, and production needs to go up, AMD will hire more people, and grow as a company.

And to say she's the worst CEO is really forgetting she's the reason AMD is making healthy profits right now...
