Everytime I get excited by new phones I check the weight and am shocked at how heavy they are. The iPhone XR is very wide and heavy also, all these phones are 190g to 250g.
I'll take the LG G8 or Samsung S10 just for the weight savings (150-160g), I'll keep the notch or hole instead.
Phones get bigger and the weight scale of phone materials tends to follow the famed "premium feel" scale (polycarbonate<aluminum<glass<ceramic<steel) promoted for years.
This is larger than an S10+ or a G8 but other than that is there anything in particular that would make it heavier than any other phone with Gorilla Glass front and back and steel frame? Wonder if the mechanical motorized slide-out camera is a major contributor.
That's the part where I care about it the least, though I generally don't care as much about the weight or height. If the compromise is between weight/height and performance/cooling, I'd rather have more performance.

Fuly agree, I find my Note 8 at 195 gram too heavy. I never felt the same in regard to my S7 Edge at 157 gram. And I find the Nokia 3310 at 85 gram a bit too flimsy instead. Depending on the individual of course, but to me a weight of 120-140 seem perfect. The S4 for example is 130 gram. Not feeling flimsy, still very thin and light.
The entire design trend of phones needs a rethink. At least one major OEM should put things in reverse and do things like a *plastic* or *metal* back, bezels on the top and bottom (with stereo speakers for the occasional time when you have to use your phones sound), and a SLIGHTLY smaller screen. As far as a headphone jack, I'd rather just see a dongle in the box TBH. The whole headphone jack thing is overblown. Pumping audio through the USB-Type C port means you get a clean digital signal, making it possible to do things like optical out, etc. Combine that with a built in amp on the phone (along with the 'quad DAC' that some LG phones have) and you get a nice clean signal that can either be converted to a headphone jack or hooked up to a soundbar or surround sound system.
I'd also like to see micro SD cards return and have a storage manager built into the system that combines internal and external storage. Encrypt it if you want, but as quickly as prices have fallen (I just bought 4 128 GB microSD cards for $15...and they are REAL. Ran a tester on them.), External storage will be the way to go when you run out of space. I'd also like to see an AOSP style release without vendor junkware.
The problem is I wouldn't pay a premium for those features. Such a phone would be worth about $499 if it had 4 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 855 combined with a 2560x1440 AMOLED screen.
I agree with a lot of that, but definitely not the headphone jack port. It should stay, as as a connector it is more durable when in use because it can rotate. We're finding out that many USB C ports are not that much better than microUSB ports in terms of durability. Besides, all headphones end up analogue.
It's not like the USB C port would suddenly lose audio transmission capability.

-Needs front stereo speakers which allows you to hear youtube videos, movies, emulator games, camera videos, etc in full volume. -And wireless charging which is extremely useful, no port wear, start charging faster/with one hand, magnetic charging mount in the car.. Still use it all the time on my Nexus 5. Wireless charging pad cost me $3.00 on ebay. -The missing 3.5 headphone jack is not really ideal..

Notice that there’s no water and dust rating. That’s because it’s almost impossible to keep water and dust out of the slot. I can see grit from wind picking it up, being deposited inside that slot, eventually scratching the lenses and eventually causing the module to grind to a halt. Moisture too. It will remain in the slot for some time, causing problems.

Too bad Oppo didn't put the extra weight and complexity to make a really good periscope style optical zoom camera - if done correctly, they can be spectacular. @Andrei: Lastly, one question and request: what about the call quality of this and other phones? Please add a sentence or two on this to your reviews, good call quality is a non-negotiable for me and probably many others. I do use my smartphone as my main phone, and had to bench/retire my Xiaomi Mi Max 3 phone due to really horrible call quality (on both sides, got many complaints over poor voice quality). I loved many aspects of that phone, especially the big screen and battery, but it was basically useless as a daily driver. Now back to an older LG phone, not as good otherwise, but I can make and receive clear phonecalls.
I have no idea how your Oppo10x zooms scores so low in benchmarks. My UK version scores very high in all benchmark scores. Antutu score of 370k, geekbench 4score 3514/11314 . Pcmark work2 performance score is 10564
So, PCMark score better than anything else tested here? Maybe they apply some sort of cheating fix that identifies certain apks and allows more relaxed boosting behavior, which Andrei disables.
How about comparing the phone with broader range cheaper phones like UMIDIGI etc with other processors. They cost 5-10x less than Apple, Google or Samsung but definitely are not 5-10x worse, not even mentioning this OPPO phone.
Samsung has improved the night mode DRAMATICALLY, and also not only the Exynos get on pair with the Snapdragon, but now the exynos even manage to be better in low light, holy shit.
And also bye bye Pixel, Samsung is so better in low light now its only bested by P30 pro and (maybe?) the new iPhones.
