    Still only 2.8GB/s? Things haven't really gotten any faster. ( although I assume that is not the purpose of this controller. )

    They'll just repurpose part of it as an SLC cache for the peak benchmark figures.

    No, it's a server drive and they tend not to use SLC caches because the long term performance consistency is what is important. That's also why the performance is a bit low, but this drive probably has better performance than most consumer drives after the cache has been used up.
