Every time i see a Windows PC announcement I get my hopes up for a non-16:9 aspect ratio, and it never delivers :( there's just so much wasted space under the screen
You want to go back to days 1024x768 and 800x600 CRT monitors. I can understand this If the resolution is low but this is a 4k screen. I have 4k on my Dell XPS 15 2in1 and resolution is too much for my older eyes.
Let's be realistic what kind of screen do you want or this is just a complaint about Windows, if so go purchase a iPad. Desktops today are widescreen all the time now.
Every time i see a HStewart comment I get my hopes up for a non-stupid discussion, and it never delivers :( there's just so much wasted space under the skull
I'd love to at least see a 16:10 ratio screen. 16:9 is just a little bit too pinched on vertical height for most text-heavy tasks like writing code, word processing, or even reading a document. I also find it lacking when I'm working in Kdenlive. There isn't enough screen height to display multiple audio and video channels. It can really bog down my workflow, but the only way to get something other than 16:9 is to pay a lot more for comparably performing hardware from Apple.
Yeah, it's pretty boring. Here's a hint, laptop manufacturers: if you can't make the bezels of almost equal size all the way around, change the screen aspect ratio!!
Any guesses as to when WiFi 6 / 802.11ax will appear in Thinkpad X1 Extreme?
I saw a YouTube about what it enables, and that gave me hope that it will help my 49 device "noisy" home network be better behaved. I will be the X1 Extreme as soon as it and Eero have 802.11ax.
I didn't realize that it won't be "ratified" officially till this fall. https://blog.aerohive.com/802-11ax-frequently-aske... Yet I read of 1 manufacturer (I believe AlienWare) announcing a future laptop with it...
I don't think a 1650 makes sense in 2022. 3050s are better in terms of battery consumption and can perform way better than a 1650 max q. We have already seen that 3050s can be put in an ultrabook form factor like acer did it. Also it is based on 8nm rather than 14nm making it better in terms of power to performance ratio.

I agree.. it's really annoying. Especially when you want to work on it, everything feels so cramped.HStewart - Tuesday, May 14, 2019 - link

16:10 would be nice, or 3:2 like Surface products.. nobody is complaining about Windows the operating system itself....Prestissimo - Wednesday, May 15, 2019 - link
16:10 all the way. Literally the Golden Ratio (1.618) in rectangular form. It's the perfect aspect ratio.nandnandnand - Tuesday, May 14, 2019 - link
Aspect ratio ain't resolution.*checks username* Oh, you're the lolcow of anandtech.com. Carry on.

Yes, I miss my 16:10 aspect ratio on my ThinkPad T410 very very much! It's GREAT for text work (Excel, Word, etc.)
The vertical space for working on your LCD screen is a very precious commodity nowadays.
I'm willing to pay a premium for a 16:10 LCD screen on my ThinkPad!
