Newegg was selling the 1TB Blue 3D NAND for $99 last week. 3D NAND, five-year warranty, DRAM, and pure SATA3 6Gb/s saturation? Ya can't go wrong, folks. This was for an off-site backup, so not having NVMe (and finding a NVMe -> USB controller) was actually a plus.
$100/gb = count me in. I want NVME though. I still have 2 more slots to fill. I want to get the 2 tb evo plus for all 3 slots, but damn, already spent a ton for my 1 tb 960 evo.
I think $100/gb is very steep... I'm not sure what "g" means, but I'm going to guess "Giga", as would normally be accepted with a capital G. Lowercase b, though, that's unambiguously "bit", NEVER byte. Therefore $100 per gigabit. That's expensive. Really expensive. This SSD at that price would cost $3,200,000.
But do you really need super fast nvme for all drives? On my side, for my "slow" storage I use Intel 2TB 660p as it is cheaper and still much faster than a SATA SSD.
I haven't got a need for this much storage capacity yet, but it is nice to see its out there on the market. It would not be shocking to see a hefty markup on the price for capacity over drives in the 1-2TB range.
You can't even get a 4TB spinning internal HDD from WD. They sell plenty of the My Passports with them inside, for quite a while now. On newegg, there is only one Seagate model available. I don't get it.
And I probably have to mention for those unaware - the My Passports have USB on-board, so you can't use them out of the enclosure.
Doesn't that just reflect the market? I would imagine the population that want - a 4TB internal drive AND - prioritizes that 4TB as an HDD over a smaller SSD AND - can't make use of an external drive of some sort for their extra capacity needs
The 4TB is going to be much more per TB than that, just like how the 4TB Samsungs sell at a large premium. WD is not going to undercut themselves https://www.upsers.online/

Pretty sure you were trying to say 1 "TB" not "GB".alefsin - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 - link

I would love to put one of these in my laptop at some point. Two 2TB M.2s + 4TB 2.5" for 8TB of solid state storage. That's the dream.s.yu - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 - link

is pretty damn small these days.
