Looking forward to the reviews for this. Definitely one to consider if the camera turns out to be special.

This is absurd and I like it.

ddoes this thing support 5g? real big question as the phone sounds truly amazing
  • Valantar - Monday, February 25, 2019 - link

Why does 5G matter? It won't be available outside of a scant few places until at least 2020 anyhow, and the perceivable difference from 4G will be minimal at best.
  • Tams80 - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

This and the battery is going to be shot on it or any other 5G device coming out soon by the time 5G is widespread in any way.
  • DontTreadOnMe - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

    It does not.

    2 × 12 MP RGB sensor with Zeiss optics, f/1.8, 1/2.9", 1.25µm
    3 × 12 MP RGB sensor with Zeiss optics, f/1.8, 1/2.9", 1.25µm
    1 × TOF depth sensor
    1 × dual-LED/dual-tone flash

Did you mean for one of those first two lines to be "B&W"?
  • DontTreadOnMe - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

    3 cameras are monochrome.
  • prisonerX - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

Yes, it should say that but it doesn't.
  • 5Gfun - Monday, February 25, 2019 - link

Nokia keep this camera arrangment for your 5G phone with Snapdragon 855, totally get rid of bezels and make front camera popping out. I give you my money then even if it is a solid heap of hay.
  • DontTreadOnMe - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

Yes, and I will buy the 845 version and save some money. :) I suppose I could just buy a last-year-flagship with similar effect, but that's throwing away a year's worth of security patches.
  • prisonerX - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

Why are you offering Nokia money, they don't make this phone.
  • nikon133 - Monday, February 25, 2019 - link

I really hope it will deliver on image quality promise... though I'db e tempted to buy it just for DoF control. Even 1" sensor cameras struggle to provide meaningful DoF control as soon as shooting approaches aperture of 2.0.

This will not replace my large sensor camera - but it could be great sidekick that also happens to provide all the benefits of modern smartphone.

I don't understand the design logic of using rounded corners when the screen is not curved.
  • IBM760XL - Monday, February 25, 2019 - link

I find it to be more ergonomic. It comes closer to matching the natural grip of the hand carrying the phone than a device with angular corners.
  • Exodite - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

I imagine wr3zzz was talking about the display rather than the phone edges?

Assuming that's the case I agree.

Rounded display edges are stupid, even for phones with rounded exteriors and minimal bezels, as no actual content is suited for it.

The exterior is more a subjective thing I'll grant you, though personally I prefer completely flat devices with minimally rounded edges as that works best with my use cases.

On the plus side this is one of the few devices available seemingly without a camera hump so that's a big plus in my book, even if I don't particularly care about the camera.
  • wr3zzz - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

Yep I was referring to the rounded corners on the flat display itself. Now that I see the other comment I guess Nokia did it to match the rounded corners of the device. If that's the case in my opinion that's a tail wagging the dog design decision.
  • prisonerX - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

It's really stupid form over function design. Hopefully there's an option to turn it off.
  • IBM760XL - Monday, February 25, 2019 - link

A very interesting device, and it ticks almost all the boxes I'd be looking for - except the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack. I understand all the cameras may have made it more legitimately a design challenge than most phones, but it's still disappointing given the historically good audio output quality of Nokia phones.

On the other hand, that would give me a good excuse to keep my 808 PureView around as a media player.
  • Lord of the Bored - Monday, February 25, 2019 - link

Can we get this with a fold-open display and a 1/4" headphone jack?
  • boozed - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

    For your studio cans?
  • Lord of the Bored - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

    Heck yeah.
I mean, if we're going to put FIVE CAMERAS on the back, we may as well go all-in with the excess, right? Let's add a full HDMI port while we're at it.
  • prisonerX - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

I won't accept anything less than balanced XLR outputs.
  • Lord of the Bored - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

That is fair. Maybe an SPDIF too, keep the digital-path covered.
  • DontTreadOnMe - Tuesday, February 26, 2019 - link

I see a lot of whining elsewhere about the year-old SoC and industrial design. However looking at UK pricing it seems this phone *seriously* discounted because of those, to me, inconsequential flaws. Since I'm replacing an ageing S7 Edge this is a serious contender for an upgrade without breaking the bank. I could really do with some in depth reviews, and maybe some more information about the Oneplus 7, before being tempted to pre-order. The main Nokia 9 doubt I have is the lack of OIS for video.

"...but still has a small notch"

Where? I don't see one in the images.
  • alexandis - Thursday, February 28, 2019 - link

It's a pity there's no optical zoom here...
I'm a bit disappointed by Huawei beasts with their displays so hoped for Nokia... But still this tiny 3320 mAh battery... Why?:(

Hmm.. no SD slot.. no thanks, I like to expand my memory, another one of my list.
